i think it depends on the person, but there are a couple reason that come to mind

1. if you want people to listen to you, or value your opinions, dressing well gives you credibility and makes it easier to discuss certain things without being immediately dismissed

2. you just enjoy sharing the clothing you wear, since fashion is a very communicative type of thing, getting reactions and feedback can potentially be interesting

Remember this website caters to conservative weabo types, they don't want to dress the way this board dresses so they ignore it. The people who come here now are tumblr swaggits, I don't remember people posting tumblr threads last year.

I feel like these guys are really the problem, they're bringing stagnation to this board where there should be inovation or at least people willing to post. Which leads us to our next problem, I don't think any one wants to post. Too many self conscious people come here, on top of that no one really pushes to make any thing every one is too busy waiting for some one else to do something.

I'd personally think what would save this board would be more ties between us. We need a strong connection to show others just how serious we are about this board. We should have threads about making our own clothes and threads maybe about what some fashion articles/websites are saying

I was just thinking about this the other day!

We have progress threads similar to the threads on /clg/ where people post their pieces except we're posting our clothing. The only problem with that is as you mentioned earlier, this place is full of swaggits who care only about style and not fashion. And the only person I know on here who make their own shit is User.

So.... if we can get a few people into buying fabric and learning to sew we can start getting more people interested into fashion.

Learning about textures annd how clothing is made would drastically improve the quality of this board.

The only problem is aint nobody got time for that.

i dont think its very feasible. learning to sew/make clothes is a ridiculously huge time sink that most people arent really passionate enough to invest, there is nothing wrong with that, but you really have to love making shit with your hands and all the parts of the process.

i think if you really want to improve this board, post more interesting pictures. also if you want to post text posts, discuss fashion or design in more depth, or at least ask about things youre curious about and try to develop some type of dialogue. but yeah i think that the format of this site really shines in terms of sharing images

Yeah well, no use in sitting around and waiting for someone to tell you how to do it, I went out and bought a bunch of fabric and my grandmas old sewing machine, but apparently it's better to start off by hand. I think that there are people on here willing to give it a try, but are just not confident enough to do it. A possibly similar example is the way that people post on /fit/ wanting to get in shape but lack the confidence to enter a gym. Eventually those people are motivated by the board and set out on their goal. I think there's a lot of talent around us, the people on /clg/ make some amazing costumes and are extremely resourceful, but then again they are a bigger board than us. I agree that it may not be the most feasible way to go about, but I think that by forming our own little sewing circle will be a huge encouragement to others. And from that interesting images will come in the form of progress threads.

And posting photos is cool and all but that only sets up lurk mode option for people, in other words people will just come here and take instead of giving to the community..

We don't want people just coming here and taking, we want more people to feel the need to contribute. I agree with you though, the whole idea behind teaching people how to sew would be awesome, but like User said, it takes time and most people here are pretty impatient.

Not shooting our idea down btw, I'm still gonna go with it and learn how to sew, but I think we should all think of something that could help this board long term and have new fags who are effay or at least trying to be effay stick around. If you don't have any ideas you could always try to keep other boards in mind btw, like what keeps people going back to those boards.

That type of thing has been tried before, and didn't really take off at all.

If anyone saw my boot care thread the other day, I can remember some DIY posts back in the day from a few tripfags about tossing shit together(not full sewing skills, just some basic stuff) that barely got as much traction as my rinky dink thread.

I've been trying to think of something for awhile that would increase interest here the way the weekly photo workshops on /p/ work for that board, and haven't been capable of figuring something out that is inclusive enough, while still being interesting that would push people towards solid contributions.

Not that it counts, but I'd be behind a sewing class. It might work if certain things were structured too, maybe the past didn't work because they were just randomly posted, so if you set up a typical date/time to go over certain things and had a little lesson plan to allow people to prepare for the guide, you might get some good involvement.

It would take some solid effort from whoever decides to do this though.

on another board I got into a screencap image like that. there was a thread about the game (or "game") Dear Esther and one guy was determined to say it was the dumbest thing ever. So he posted saying that the game's prose was stupid and meaningless, followed by a quote he made up combining some of the phrases used throughout the game. Almost immediately he gets an anonymous response (I think it was him taking his own bait; he seemed that desperate) saying "It's a beautiful quote" and I also responded saying he maybe didn't get the beauty of metaphorical thinking. I hadn't actually read the quote bit, I just assumed he took some silly-sounding line from the game.

So he responds to both about, you know, this is how dumb Dear Esther fans are, etc., then screencaps the exchange. Now he posts it every time the game gets mentioned.

Images like that prove next to nothing. I'm not sure why people make them. I liked the ones that circulated at the time of SWTOR because the people defending that game (on forums, and not anonymously) said some of the dumbest things you could imagine. But most of the time they're badly-done. That one about the salty bags just has people saying "can't wait to get mine" or making fun of people who bought them. Doesn't really capture anything about how dumb the hype was.
