This might be literally the worst fashion forum in the world to ask this, but what other black designers are there? I can run off plenty of female, non-European, queer designers, and even two Africans (Saint Laurent and Elbaz, a Pied-Noir and a Jewish Moroccan-Israeli), but Kanye West is actually the only black designer I can think of.

I hear Simon Adebisi's designer wear has been making some waves on the fashion scene lately. His aesthetic style is difficult for me to describe. It's very eclectic, check out some of his streetwear I'm sure you'll enjoy his varied designed. I copped one of his hats on ebay.

I imagine part of the reason there are few black designers today is b/c these days, it's a ridiculously expensive career path to pursue and requires a lot of financial backing, so it's mostly only rich ppl getting successful, and most rich ppl in the western world are white or maybe asian american...

curious to know why you ask OP, is this for a thesis project?

whats great is zim-zam sells his deadstock, clearance, sample stuff on sz/sufu all the time for really reasonable prices (it's usually pants) & of course hes much easier to get in contact w/ if u have an issue. u can also go read his sz thread where he talks about each seasons pieces & answers q's

he used to work as a tailor too, so every once and a while like an ann d jacket or smth will pop up where the seller is like "tailored by zamb himself!!!" which is hilarious & great tbh

i mean, it's honestly one of the most racist media industries i can think of, it's sort of amazing what it gets away with

recently there've been way more asian american designers (as well as models), and it's probably partly because there's a larger asian market now, but not because of any ethical motivation within the industry. i imagine that if there was a more formidable black market you'd see more black designers and models. it's all about money.
