I think the materials and patterns are an interesting change of pace. I think it would work if it was the bright point in an otherwise reserved fit that hit of some of the shoes coloway with minor flourishes.

I think the tonal thing is fine, but the nasty looking leather on the N and the logo ruin it for me. I already hate how cheap and flimsy Herschel bags look, so why would I want a shoe to look cheap and flimsy, too?

I get you on the branding, That always kills NBs for me. I also know that Herschels are mediocre, played-out bags with a dorky name that I usually see on meek-looking white dudes wearing beat-up grey runners.
But aside from the removable HSCO tag on the bottom there's no real Herschel branding. That N really kills it, though. It's probably glued on, too. A seamripper would just make it worse.
Arguably any modification might worsen the shoe, if you consider the expectations of sneakerheads who know the release and what features it's supposed to include.
