Don't wear the same colors on multiple pieces. Wear a bunch of different colors that all look good together.
A simple example: black looks good with light gray, light gray looks good with maroon, maroon looks good with black. Black jeans, black shoes, light gray shirt, maroon jacket. Boom: good-looking outfit.

Notice that even though I repeated black, I kept it together to not make myself look like Neopolitan ice cream.

It often doesn't though. Jeans and jeans-colored tee is vomit-tier. Black is an exception. Especially because the shoes are so small. You could make a shirt/jacket of the same color passable I guess but I wouldn't do it.
There aren't really rules to this shit. Only patterns I've drawn through observation that are still disproven by creative well dressed individuals on the regular.

This is a good fit. Everything I just mentioned applies
White looks good with black. White looks good with light blue. Black looks good with light blue.

Easiest formula for this: Black, high value or low value shade of black/white/gray, high/low value shade of x color. The important part is contrast. Light gray with dark blue, dark gray with light blue.
I want to emphasize the importance of not strictly adhering to this, but in general this is how you stay safe.
