I feel like being fit is the best way to be able to pull off workwear style. When I think workwear I think big burly dudes wearing boots, denim, thick shirts, and jackets.

Any hardy fabric can fit into the workwear style, so without question yes.

Chinos are a typical one, especially if you get something on the thicker/more rigid side like duck canvas or some of the unbranded raws in khaki.

Cords are another option, you see them less, but over all for fall/winter they can be worked in without issue. The colours would need to be kept in earth tones, and I'd suggest away from blue/black with grey/browns likely being the best.

I've been trying to push a military style for myself, but people are giving me bad reviews so I'm starting over with basics again...

Pants are:
I've got a pair of burgundy chinos, thinner wales.
One pair of Khaki Docker's Alpha's
The less dressy version of Express's photographer chinos, lighter navy
Banana Republic slim chinos in white
H&M darker navy chinos.
Of course jeans

1. Which one of these would work best for the workwear attire?
2. Returning my field jacket (pic related), what's an alternative & more versatile piece to exchange it for?

I've got oxfords and flannels, so tops are good to go...

My guess is only the jeans, Alpha, and the cords are the ones I'm gonna be able to pull off effectively with workwear. I'm interested in hearing your responses though

The chinos depend on how much red, or how much brown is in them to be honest. If are a darker red, they will work a lot better than if they are a lighter red.

The dockers are a good starting point, here is the full range of colours. It also is a good way to point out which colours can work, and which can't. In this picture, everything other than the red, baby blue, and the orange khaki can work perfectly well. The Khaki in this picture seems a little too light in colour for me, but that isn't too much of an issue.

So in saying that, most of what you listed can work, the White chinos though, don't really fit the build unless you want to pretend to be a painter.

For jackets, I'd suggest OPs getup if you plan on mostly wearing darker bottoms, or if you have mostly darker bottoms in your wardrobe. If you have more light coloured bottoms, then I'd suggest a nice green field jacket in a canvas, or a heavy grey wool shirt/jacket cross.

In that case, those cords should work perfectly fine.

Those shoes however need replacement. Simply canvas runners in a grey will get you through pretty much any workwear fit.

Naturally, leather shoes/boots are the prime, but to start out I'd just suggest some simple grey shoes.

>> No.6638331

Depends on the type of pants/shirt and the rest of it.

Take OP's look for instance Lighter jacket, darker shirt, darker even still pants. That type of transition is perfect.

>>6635959
This type of thing can work as well, but I wouldn't suggest attempting it until you no longer feel like you need to ask for help here.

>>6635987
And denim jackets can work well also. This one, to my eye, doesn't work as well as it could.

Main suggestions for denim, get a dark jacket with as little contrast stitching as possible.

>>6635996
Light denim like this can also work, but for a newbie, I'd suggest staying away from it as you can easily turn into a guy wearing his dads late 80s jacket if you don't pay attention to the right details.

>>6636001
This is prime for the field jacket green pairing I was talking about, and if you can imagine this in a nice deep charcoal tweed, rather than a green, you can see what I was talking about with that colourway also.

>>6638299
I agree with that statement. When starting out, keep it earth tones with maybe a few blues, and that will really help you build towards a solid wardrobe with an easily paired wardrobe.

No issues with that, I'd gather that most of my fits would fall in either prep, or workwear, with a lot of cross over happening as well.

The two pair up quite well in the fall also, so it is a nature mixture in certain ways during the colder months. Summer is really the only time of year that the two are truly separate on a large scale.
