i know a lot of /fa/ likes docs, so

>> No.6622841

As far as build quality goes the upper level Red Wings are light years ahead of the Docs. People actually put in real manual labor in those boots and swear by them. Docs would probably fall apart in less than a week of real work.

But as far as look goes? That's all personal preference.

The OG low black docs look fucking sick imo. Although I wore mine without socks and they fucked me up , still can't walk properly.

Lies..

I've worn my 1460 for lifes every single day for the past three years, and the only thing worn down on them is the heel on the sole, which will be replaced with the life time warranty when it's worn down to the point of discomfort.

Go for the 1460 for life or 1460 mono. Anything else is hipster tier.

As to answer your question OP, to me Red Wings kind of work specifically only in workwear, where Docs work more with many other styles, which make them easier to wear. It's cool to roll up and look workwear, but it's also cool when you're feeling tired to throw them on with a white shirt and look working class.

Red wings are nicer and traditional and use more expensive materials, but they're not any more durable than docs.

As for 'manual labor' if you're on a job site you need CSA certified footwear. Neither docs nor red wings qualify. Of course no one on /fa/ would know that, because no one here was worked an honest day's work in their life.

Apparently they're made at the old Doc Martin factory in England using the same materials and equipment that was originally used for making DM's before they decided to outsource to Asia.

My for lifes look like the exact same texture. I made the decision to purchase them after trying on the 1460, 1460 for lifes, and 1460 vintages, IN PERSON AT THE DOC MARTINS RETAIL STORE, and I found that the For Lifes were the most comfortable, would do what little breaking in they had to do the most quickly, AND HAD A WARRANTY FOR LIFE. You can see online that each boot uses a completely different leather looking closely online.. Furthermore the soles are the exact same!

I don't care for a much thicker tougher leather.. Soft leather won't crinkle in and solidify over time, and weighs much less. There is absolutely no need for that extra durability when you weigh out the pros and cons. Vintages (a.k.a made in England) are nothing more than a crappy sales tactic. The decision is obvious.

Red Wing is light years ahead in terms of quality. Aesthetics, that is subjective, but you must be kidding yourself if you think Doc Martens can hold a candle to either the harness leathers or featherstone leathers used in the construction of their mainline heritage boots.
