Hello everyone, and welcome to todays Daily Brand Discussion Thread. Today we'll be talking about Burberry.
Burberry's history goes way back to the 1850's, when Thomas Burberry started the brand.
Inventor of many things, Thomas first invented the Garbadine fabric. Later supplying clothes and other necessities for the Roald Amundsen expedition aswell as the Ernest Shackleton attempt to cross the Antarctic. Burberry was even worn on attempts to climb Mt. Everest.

Aside from expeditionary equipment, Burberry were chosen to create an officers' coat during WWI. The officers' coat was known as the "trench coat" and is the predecessor to the trenchcoats we still see today.

During the 1920's, the iconic Burberry check (see picture) was created and used as lining in their trench coats.

Burberry lost a fair bit of popularity during the 20th century, and by the start of the 21st century, they hired designer Cristopher Bailey to help turn things around. Needless to say that he succeeded, and today Burberry is a very popular brand in the lower luxurious class of mens wear.

Burberry has 3 brands, Burberry Prorsum, Burberry London and Burberry Brit.
Prorsum is intended as their base line, London is "Heritage outerwear 'wear to work' items, including businesswear" and Burberry Brit is the cheapest and most common of the brands.

Tomorrows discussion will be about Commes des Garçons.

Burberry are hyper protective of their brand nowadays. They go to great measures to keep the pattern hard to replicate and burn anything that goes wrong in the factory.

Burberry was top shit back in the day when it was still made in england. They're quality has gone way down since. Stay away from the brit and london lines because they're trash. Prorsum is a better, but the quality is still questionable.

a good amount of their London line, especially the trenchcoats, are still made in england

I love what Bailey does with Prorsum, I've always thought of London and the UK and their heritage and history as romantic

unfortunately that's not the case anymore but prorsum maintains that image for me i like it
