Yes, I think they can be. For our purposes, I think it's better to seek out a slightly more special piece to wear casually. Something that doesn't offend but doesn't fully conform, either.
Little features like extra large hoods, double hoods, structured hoods, extended body length and double zippers.
In my experience, the pieces that stay with you the longest are mostly basic yet undoubtedly special in one way or another. It's either a quirk of a look or a special feature that keeps my favorites in circulation most of the time.

I agree with >>6463030 but still agree that a basic hoodie has a place in an everyday wardrobe, even if you never wear it in public or when you're trying to be stylish.
As a layering piece, under jackets, to the gym, on a cold plane, to throw on when it's rainy or to pack for a beach day, you'll get quite a bit of use out of a regular unbranded hoodie in a neutral colour. I bought an AA one after breaking up with a boyfriend and having to give his back, but I use it for basically everything.

I have a few "interesting" hoodies, but they're far less practical. I have a cropped hoodie that goes very well with high waisted bottoms and nothing else, and a Wildfox "gypsy" hood that just drapes over your head and into your eyes. Also the 50/50 blend tends to pill really easily
Not all your basics have to be fashionable pieces, but you should be able to find ways to dress them up.

I like basic colored hoodies, I have a graphic ( i know) one with manuels helmet but the rest are just cotton simple ones. I don't see many threads with hoodies on them but they are so damn affordable compared to the W2C FUCCBOI 3000$$ DESIGNER

Hoodies are never /fa/. They are considered even less formal than t-shirts. They are to be worn only when exercising or when relaxing at home.
