I don't deny the shittiness of 2013 /fa/, but we've gone a long way since the board's inception. Beneath all the meme spouting and shitposting, which has always been here albeit in a different form, there's been markedly better quality posts than we've had before. There wasn't a single tripfag in old /fa/ with the thoughtfulness of poet or the technical expertise of twerk it or User. Not only that, but there was a rhetoric that circulated amongst the board that put traditional menswear as the end all, be all of fashion, much like you've demonstrated in the OP. We were so narrow minded back then that anything that dared play with the boundaries of menswear was lambasted into oblivion. Old /fa/ religiously adhered to dumb rules like no graphic tees and always tuck in your shirt; clothing -always- had to fit perfectly and anatomically and anything that tried to play with shape and silhouette was collectively shat on. RTW discussions never went beyond mall-tier brands and discussions centered around Topman and thrifting. /fa/ back then really was proto-/mfa/: we had the same general-populace view of fashion that we like to shit on these days.

So please, explain to me how exactly old /fa/ was better, because I simply can't fucking see it.

Old /fa/ really wasn't that dadcore, I'd say more heritage than anything. You definitely had your goofninjas and dadcore faggots mixed in, but most /fa/ggots just tried to dress nice. The thing is that was basically all /fa/ used to be, besides the tripfag circlejerking. It'd make sense to lament old /fa/'s preference for menswear if it ever reached styleforum-tier level discussions, but all we did was compliment each other's dadcore H&M/ASOS fits and the amount of designers talked about could be counted on one hand. At least now there's a wider breadth of designers discussed and a number of SZ/SuFu expats on the board to help facilitate the discussions.

/fa/ had discussion of runway fashion and such back in its early days, it's just that most people on the board were more interested in changing how they dressed in public for self-improvement purposes, not so much fashion for the art of it. /fa/ worked for that populace (better than /mfa/ does today) because it gave good advice and constructive criticism.

Fast forward to now, and you're in a weird situation where people care a bit more about high fashion than they used to, but we're still swarmed with newfags just trying to learn how to dress to get girls or whatever. Never before has there been a fashion website with so many bland, shit-tier versions of "avant-garde" fashion.

I'm not saying new /fa/ is necessarily bad, it's just in an awkward teen stage, more or less. The real problem with /fa/ is close mindedness (and a problem shared by many boards on 4chan, for example /mu/)

back in the day more experimental fits would be laughed at and now anything that isn't streetwear / runway fashion is shunned. how about we stop making childish allegiances to styles and accept that there is merit and discussion to be had with all sorts of fashion

To be honest it seems like heritage/#menswear is what you hit at entry level, at least a couple of years ago. If you're trying to search the internet for men's fashion, a whole lot that comes up is all these basic guides, saying wear khaki chinos and a blue oxford shirt and some brown leather shoes.

So I read through all of that, and took it on board, learnt about fit and and quality and all this stuff that MFA will regurgitate... And then I carried on looking, and """gothninja""" was a part of the more 'advanced' fashion shit that I was looking at.

So I took it on board, saved a few pictures, whatever... But although I do tend to wear a lot of black, I wouldn't class what I wear now as gothninja, I just like to have a clean, sleek look.
