Raf Simons is one of the greatest menswear designers of our time, able to condense certain idea/feelings/moods perfectly through his designs. He has moved on from his typical source of inspiration, youth culture, but that does not mean in any way that he is less talented/turning to menswear/whatever.

His footwear can be disconcerting, but that is counterbalaced by the incredible sense of modernity and innovation you can find throughout his collection. He is the closest you can come to finding a genuine artist in fashion. Him and a few others, notably Yohji Yamamoto, Rick Owens to a lesser extent, occasionally newcomers like Thom Browne, and veterans like Martin Margiela.

Though I wear very little of it, I greatly admire the strength of vision that moves the Raf Simons world forward. He's one of those designers who has a distinct signature, but also has the ability to push forward and embrace new ideas and propose new ways of dressing that still feel very true to that signature. This spring showing harkens back to a lot of old Raf ideas (I can't help but draw comparisons to the "Wave Test" sweaters from '04, the schoolboy uniforms that launched his brand in '95, and even see a reaction against his own layered silhouettes from '01).

I'm just talking about these shoes. I agree he's a quality artist but these are so dadcore to me it hurts. Most of the people that are basically cumming from the sight of these are just sheep. If raf or rick took a shit and threw some glitter on it, /fa/ would call it genius and ahead of our time.

that's not true. you flatter yourself to think so, however. i've been a fan of raf for a long time and im not very keen on the latest footwear. i don't bother posting my indifference or distaste for them because... why bother? i don't have enthusiasm for the design. so when these threads are posted they become populated by people who like the design. it's like when an album leaks and /mu/'s frontpage is filled with fans of a given artist who are hyped about the new material (remeber anco's chz?). the critics and dispassionate are silent, so they aren't represented. they might speak up later, however.

i think you have a personal prejudice against asics/adidas joggers, given you say they are "dadcore." they have a stigma of being inappropriate, or worn by the fashionably ignorant, but they can be designed well. maybe you're used to seeing a minimal aesthetic instead of maximal. i didnt like them enough to pick up a pair, but i liked the panel joggers raf did this season (ss13) and the ones lanvin did for this fall.
