The reason it's believed that fat people can't look good is because fat people can't do androgyny well and androgyny has essentially been en vogue for the last 30 years.

So much of modern fashion and what's considered cool or sexy is about playing with androgyny, it's about adding an edge of masculinity to womenswear and a slight air of femininity to menswear.

Fat girls that fuck with masculinity look like bull dykes and fat guys that fuck with femininity look like past their prime castrato's.

I feel the only way fat guys can look really cool or sexy is to go a hyper masculine route and a hyper feminine route for fat women. I think this is more obvious with fat women and their obsession with pin up girl styles, yeah it usually looks awful but I think they're aiming in the right direction. Also I should probably make clear at this point that I think overweight can look good but probably not obese. Not to mention ultimately if the person just lost weight they would be able to dress in a range of different styles and look good instead of being stuck to playing up their gender as much as possible.

That's my theory at least.

But that's not true, there have been countless traditional societies that recognize transgender individuals and homosexuals for thousands of years. There are tribes in india that recognize 5 genders, and they're practically ancient!
Trans folks were all over Japan, China, Thailand, Vietnam for ages. They had formalized roles in society.
There's mention of it in South American tribes, Native American tribes. People have always transcended traditional gender roles and many traditional communities have created formalized niches for these people, often regarding them as sacred or more intimately linked to the divine.

Your point of view is just that - it's your point of view. It's important to you - I don't doubt that your conception of gender identity plays a significant role in the way you interface with reality - but at the end of the day it's YOUR point of view. You don't really get to pass judgement on the clinical viability of gender dysphoria, it's not your oeuvre. You're secure in who you are, what equipment you were born with (I assume). Assuming you're unacquainted with this feeling of 'not belonging' that so many people have said they've experienced all throughout history, I don't really see how you get the right to pass a judgement on it.

Aggression is correlated to testosterone but not a 1:1 function of it. Testosterone also has nothing to do with ability to go to the men's restroom, which is physical space equally permeable by people with lesser testosterone. Social conventions dictate who can use what space. They may be indirectly correlated to testosterone.

For the attributes and behaviors you tie to women, the same logic applies.

I walk into the women's restroom in jeans and a t-shirt. The law where I live says I am allowed to do this. If someone complains, I will inform them of the law. If someone assaults me I will shoot them. So really I have all my factual and legal bases covered here, the only obstacles are psychological and social, easily mediated by ignoring them.

Your personal opinion doesn't dictate what society deems attractive, and at all levels and price points in western society androgyny has been on the rise, infinitely more so than it was even 60 years ago. Seriously look at the big picture, look at fashion as a dialogue that stretches back to even just a thousand years ago. Never before in the history of human civilization have people dressed more androgynous than right now. There is no masculine garment women can't wear and it be deemed unacceptable by society and there are only a handful of feminine garments that men still can't wear and even that is being eroded in the most liberal of urban areas.

Doesn't matter what you or I personally think of it, the reality is that it's a massive part of the dialogue and defining what is today considered cool, sexy, beautiful etc. As I explained in my earlier post that's why I feel overweight people have so much more of a rough time today than 60 years ago. Back then men wore suits and women wore dresses, suits are built around adding structure which helped unshapely fat men and dresses can hide all sorts of gaffes the fat women deal with.

Fat people so often look bad today or have a perception that they can't look good because they're routinely forced into androgynous garments like skinny jeans in order to take part in fashion. Fat people deal with a paradox in that they have to wear certain clothes to fit in and the clothes that are cool and people wear to fit in do not make fat people look good at all and this in turn makes them stand out and look akward or bad.

I feel looking good and looking cool are often synonymous but in the case of fat people I think they need to forgo trying to look cool and keep up with trends and instead focus on looking good and dressing for their body type, playing up their gender, in the case of men focusing on the imposing size of their frame and with women accentuating the curves of their body.
