I am a field biologist and surfer. I'm looking for a new watch.

What are your favorite digital water resistant watches?

>> No.6411797

my favourite is the Casio Osama

>Casio Osama

I had one of those fuckers for years until the screen got completely smashed. If I don't get any good suggestions and can't find anything online, I'm buying another one.

There are no /fa/ digital watches. Just get an analog divers watch (like the Rolex Submariner)

>>6411820
this OP while doing field work and surfing you should be wearing a Rolex.

>> No.6411843

>>6411827
I was giving an example for design/functionality purposes. Rolexes really aren't that nice and I wouldn't have a problem wearing my Submariner hiking

I thought about getting an analog diving watch, but I really don't think that would work for my needs. There's a lot of time where I have to report times very quickly and precisely without any slight hesitation. I can't afford to stumble around on an analog watch, even if I am proficient at reading them.

Also the thought of wearing a rolex while trying to wrestle in a gator and being dragged through mud made me chuckle. Thanks.

Get a suunto watch. They're fairly good looking and last a lifetime. Most of them also include thermometer, barometer, compass, etc.

Okay, if that's the case check out these watches:

Fuck, those do look good. Thanks.

>>6411876
Thanks, bro. These are pretty cool. Definitely keeping these in mind.

Aren't analog watches actually more readable than digitals? That's what I've always heard from people who sounded like they'd know, anyway.

>> No.6414824

>>6412882
At a distance, analog clocks are better. Trying to pick out complex shapes like numbers is a lot harder at a distance than it is to pick out the simple lines of an analog clock.

With distance not being a factor, digital watches are superior for accurately telling time at a glance. Analog watches are more graphical in that they give you a sense of present, past, and future. However, it's more difficult to give a precise reading of the present time instantaneously.

nixon makes pretty good tide watches if youre in to that

While I would also like to add into that whole "get an analog diver" choir (e.g. Vostok Amphibia, legendary soviet military diver, cheap and reliable), I can totally understand the need for a digital watch for precise times.
Do you just need to read the exact time, or do you also need a stopwatch? If its just for the stopwatch, you could get some analog + digital combo. There is some "nice" G-shocks that work quite well in a fieldwork situation and dont look totally childish when worn inside at Uni. but then I am a geologist, and we are allowed to look even more "rugged" than biologists

>huurr get an analoguedrrr
fucking faggots
anyways op, as much as /fa/ would bitch and moan about it, a gshock would serve you well, and the vintage models really arent that gaudy.
>>6414903
also a good suggestion, this would definitely be slightly cheaper and more professional.

For the field, I would recommend a cheap digital. That's just me, though. Most of the guys in the herpetology lab just wear Casio DW-5600s. These are the only GShocks that don't look like shit, they are beefed up, bulletproof versions of the Casio "Osama" F91-W. They run for $50.

I've run mine through mud, sand, snake shit, salt water, brackish water, a concrete wall, and in the insides of a Florida alligator. The watch still runs like a champ.

Yeah, look into the Casio DW5600. Worth every penny.

UPDATE:

I bought the G-Shock GWM5610-1 (pic related). In the same ballpark as >>6414954
>>6414957

I heard rave reviews about it and now that a few of you in this thread have even said they're good, I feel pretty confident in my purchase. Thanks!

The G5600 is considered "military grade" or something, but it is essentially a DW5600. Regardless, either option is the way to go.

I had that watch for like 4 years while I was in the military. It looks cool, but that watch was designed by devils. It cuts into your wrist because of the sharp design, the buttons are difficult to use. I never really figured out how to use it.

Also, the light only goes on for like 1.5 seconds, and turns off every time you press another button. Wanna change the time in the dark? It will never happen.

It cursed me for a long time. Since I payed 70 bucks for it I refused to throw it away. My strategy was to try and leave it places when I knew I was too drunk to remember, but it was thwarted 4 times while people tracked me down to return my terrible watch because I left it somewhere.

I tried to leave it in a 5 story mega club in berlin and someone STILL tracked me down to return it to me. I ended up leaving it on Iwo Jima island since I know that like.000003% of the people in the world will ever go there.
