psychology is absolutely not part of the STEMS; its a social science. its closer to sociology than it is to any of the natural or hard sciences.
additionally, its competitive as fuck because of the increasing number of people majoring in it because its relatively interesting and easy, and the unchanging small number of jobs in the field. you can get a job with a psych degree but it's probably not going to be directly related to it in anyway, and will probably be in shitty area like marketing or human resources.

I make 70K a year teaching illiterate adults how to read and write for business. At the end of each year I give them individually wrapped copies of The Old Man and the Sea, which is the book I read that really kicked off my interest in literature. It's not the most glamorous job but it is fantastically rewarding. I'm also spearheading internal reviews of our advertising and marketing to try and completely remove the shame from the issue, since currently everything is all negative, like a guy being ashamed to go out with his friends in case they ask him to read from a menu. It pretty much says 'shame is a completely acceptable thing to feel', which might be true but it should in no way be associated with education. The Australian advertising space is all kinds of backwards.
