I think it's an interesting choice to split the sole up like that. I think it's going to get a lot of hate as gimmicky at first, but I see it as an emblem of Rick's aversion to compromise.

How? Well, we know Rick loves a chunky sole, but in a running shoe we run into the problem of flex - a chunky sole flexing in the middle puts a lot of strain on the seams at the toe and heel, because the thicker the sole is, the more is wants to lay flat, right? This is why a lot of running shoes, especially the current generation, are using soles that are sectioned into little cubes - you get the cushioning of a thick sole and you only flex at the thinnest points. It's a compromise that works, and you see it on FreeRuns, Reebok Zigs, etc.
This shoe bypasses the compromise by dividing the sole up into two big chunks. I think it's a brilliant solution. It's also very Rick. It takes the concept of the segmented runner sole and just pushes the volume to 11. It provides the cushioning that's required and the visual impact that's desired.
It's also spacey as hell, and I'd gladly pair it with flight pants and a bomber.

I like Y3 myself, but if I had a dollar for every piece I never bought simply because of the branding... It's actually kind of frustrating, now that I think of it. They take these beautiful designs and just rape them with that damned logo.

Well, for sure it's going to be in the Paris showroom when the men's collection is shown to press and buyers, but they haven't said whether or not they'll bring it to New York. Just some basics, so I guess I shouldn't be talking. Honestly, I'd own half their sneakers if it wasn't for the logos. I've had the money in hand, about to pay, then backed out at the last minute on two occasions. It's like I really love the brand, but it's just too much for me. Almost every time I'm in soho I hit the boutique and even the SA's grimace when you mention the branding. I feel like when you get to that level of intense futurism you gotta leave letters and names and brands out of the equation or everything looks forced.
When the design itself is attempting something that transcends language, sticking a big logo or some letters on top of it breaks the illusion and cheapens the piece. It firmly anchors the piece back in the here and now. It's almost like ludonarrative dissonance or something,

About to cop the Kubo, though. I've decided I'm ready for that level of crazy, and my wardrobe now has the long slim tees to support it.

I'm trying out some new stuff lately, that's all. For the most part the ethos is the same but I'm just wearing higher-end basics and longer garments. I've been wanting to get into really long garments for a while, just extend the impression of height a bit more and play with my proportions a bit.

6'3", and I have the hardest time finding garments that are slim, long and of decent make. I love that a lot of Damir's/SILENT's stuff is all really long in the legs, sleeves and torso - It's really refreshing for someone so used to fretting about where his tops end.

These are slinky, comfy as hell and nicely finished. If you can find one, grab it! The pants are great for the gym, too.
