I'm not sure where else to post this, but I need some goddamn advice on my hair. It's kind of thick and layered and I don't know how to style it. I see girls with lovely hairstyles but whenever I try them out myself it always looks terrible. I usually apply a cream gel to damp hair and dry it upside down with a diffuser, but that's about it. Does anyone know of some good products, styles, tutorials, etc.. I should know of? Thanks in advance.

I'm a guy who has an identical hair texture, it's infuriating.

I haven't sorted it out yet, but I think you have to choose between shampooing less often until your hair becomes nice and natural. (you can still wash and condition, but let some oil build up) Then you can rock a natural look which has it's own shape. After you have a good texture, maybe heat style it once in a while to make it more interesting.

OR, you have to brutalize it with a ton of heat styling after washing & drying, and dump on a ton of hairspray. Heat styling alone wont work, it will just go back to frizzy shit in 2-3 minutes.

Another guy with hair like that, and I've got it shoulder length, too. No poo. No transition recommendations because I did it out of not giving a fuck years ago, but now I just wash it thoroughly in very hot water with nothing added every week or so. I let it do what it wants unless I put it up, besides tossing it out of my way.

I literally have strangers come up to me and compliment me on it at least once a week.

I'd rather not post myself, but it looks like this, except redder, slightly thicker and more voluminous, and right now at shoulder length.

Shoulder length is a little awkward; I'm trying to decide whether to trim it back to this or let it go longer. But if you do want longer, you should go for it – growing out awkwardness is always worth it.

That looks pretty nice. Do you have a masculine face? Pointed features, strong/square jaw, thick straight eyebrows, etc.? My biggest issue is that I have a baby face and an awkward hairline with a really pronounced peak (looks exactly like Chris Hemsworth's). Long hair is one of the only styles I've seen look good with that hairline, but whether or not I grow it out hinges on my ability to grow out a beard.

I haven't shaved all summer, and am letting it out until next semester before I decide to keep it + grow out hair, or shave it and get a haircut. Something like pic related is where I'd like to end up.

Bumble & Bumble's styling spray is really good, and I love their hair powder for a big, puffy matte look. Since it's summer, the Bumble & Bumble surf spray can be a good way to add texture. It makes hair look salty and "beachy." I think Sephora has it on sale right now.

The no-poo thing is really good for certain hair types and not very good for others. If you've got fine hair, it might not be the best idea.

Refinery29 has a lot of really good, simple hair tutorials. I suck at doing my own hair (can't even French braid my own head), but they have a lot that are so easy even I can do them, and they look really cool.
