it's approximate, this stuff is too amorphous to nail because you don't have absolute control over the silhouette as you would if you painted the people instead of sold clothing to them. plus, plenty of great design follows neither rule. to me the most important thing is to have some long shapes. i dislike "normal" fits because the torso and legs are too balanced, it's too boring to look at. long torsos and short legs, long legs and short torsos, or just huge pillars of fabric where the body should be get me interested.
