lots of that outlandish stuff is for hype at the shows. it hopefully wows people and maybe they'll incorporate a piece of it. haute couture is extensively tailored so you can pretty much work with them to alter a ton of shit on the piece. they really only make 1 model of each couture piece since they take so fucking long and if someone orders it they'll make another. they can get pretty wearable, albeit people who wear haute couture wear it like once a year or something. plus if you are the same size as the runway model, you can cop the piece for 30% off.
but obviously the more 'basic' pieces of the show are the biggest sellers.

Ann Demeulemeester's business partner is Anne Chapelle, who started BVBA 32. But Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann spun off from the parent company earlier this month and are independent companies, though Chapelle still owns a controlling interest in both.
