My previous adventure in rawhide shoelaces was a huge disappointment; tandy leather factory was a bad choice. dry, cheap-feeling laces that were the wrong color.

so now I'm on attempt #2 to get a pair of leather laces that are comparable to the ones that come with any pair of oak street bootmakers or Yuketen or rancourt & co, or with some red wings

where do I cop laces like that? I don't want to lie to anybody for a free replacement pair, I just want to buy some legitimately

yeah, I have red wing 8881s, they come with the same laces pretty much. But I live in Canada, so it's harder to find Red Wing stores. The ones I know don't offer red wing replacement laces to my knowledge.

well, if you 'get' visvim's aesthetic, and you know what their shoes are generally aiming for, it's easy to see a visvim shoe in that context. I have no trouble picturing how you're supposed to wear the visvim boat shoe. It's harder to see what Sperry wants their boat shoe monstrosities to be. And their shoes don't have the same things going for them; they look worse in just about every respect.

that's not my opinion of boat shoes at all; don't assume everyone on /fa/ is the same

Sometimes you don't immediately notice a third eyelet, but you DO notice the overall difference in the shoe appearance; it's the summative effect of all the small differences in detail. Listing them out one by one might require some closer inspection, but that doesn't mean they weren't affecting my opinion until I looked closer.
