I live in Maine, so even though it gets really warm during the day, nights always get really cold. I love wearing summer dresses and nice clothes, but I always look dumb when it starts getting late and I have to put on my Under Armour jacket over my otherwise /fa/ outfit.

What do you guys do about supplemental jackets? Do you just say "Fuck it" and wear ugly, practical jackets or suffer through it with something that doesn't keep you warm at all?

Is there a compromise?

if you have infinite money, or at least a couple of grand to blow on a great coat of your choice, then there is no compromise. assuming your funding is limited, well, i guess it depends on what you can find within your price bracket that fits your taste.

don't even bother spending a couple grand.
Materials and construction is better than blowing money on a designer piece.
I suggest you get something like one of those slim long (merino or other 100% wool) cardigan, then belt it at the waist.
Or a chunky sweater, skirt and tights. with slouchy beanie.
Or, what my gf does, she takes one of my wool coats and wears that over her shoulders, and at every slight chill, buries herself into it and latches on to me.
