I find the color of the shirts to be too primary and gives it a bit of a "I'm a teenager who's starting out trying to be effay."

If you're set on this style, go for a tighter fitting shirt, and get a deeper v-neck. Or you could even go with a scoop, but that's up to you. Some people think scoops look full out homo, but that's really your call.
The blue of the buttoned shirt is really fucking blue. I'd say it'd look better, again, with a tighter fit, and with a more subdued or faded color.

That's just my opinion though, I've been out of the /fa/ game for a while.

It's a good start OP. Not shit by any means, just fairly safe and fairly normal. It's not so much the color that really stands out so much as it's the fit. If you have a jacket that's cut really well and hugs your sides and then tapers out and accentuates your shoulders, it has a funny habit of instantly making you a lot more attractive.

Keep it up man, you're making good progress.
