People usually chat to me and I approach people.

It's more common in small botiques though, usually if you don't look like a ill-mannered boring customer they'll stop trying to sell you shit and just talk.

You have to keep in mind they've been sitting their for the whole day and if it's a small botique with weird labels probably little flow and customers that do come usually would be interesting.

It more often then not starts with someone asking me if I like 'fashion' and something along 'how interested' then my career. Familiarisation goes from there. Go to small sample sales and pop in every now and again during sales and new season collection releases.

Really just be pleasant and approachable.

Galley openings are social events --- like a big public party. Like most of the other curators I knew, it was an entrepreneurial endeavour for me -- in other words I started the gallery myself.

I rented the space, built and painted the walls, wired and installed the lights, did the press work, solicited the artists, did the point-of-sale stuff, and lived in the in the "secret apartment" over the space. Pretty much all of the small independant galleries I know are doing something similar -- if you can do it well, everyone thinks you have a big budget and make lots of money, but the reality is that there is pretty much no money in the art world at the gallery level. You're not going to "get a job doing it" -- I had as much free help as I wanted from art students interning for credit and expereince.

And, it is hard to survive in the art world -- most galleries don't even last a year. . . even the ones started by the trustfund crowd.

She didn't drag me in, I loved him with everything I had. It was draining as fuck but I learned so much about who I was as a person. Got her First from Oxford... that actually had a lot to do with it, the girls I met through her who were also ill were mostly really bright girls.

She dressed like the dictionary meaning of twee too, she was already tall 5'10 and skinny by genetics, her dad's 6'5 and mum 5'11... but she got stunted a bit due her being ill during school.

She was needy but that came with the territory, I like to think I helped her become much more independent.
