I've never been to /fa/ before so I apologize if this whole thing seems kind of dumb.

I can honestly say I've never enjoyed wearing shorts. In the summer I usually sweat it out (In ~100 degree weather) in jeans. I used to wear jeans and a t-shirt year round, but I've recently realized that I'm really tired of this.
I'm tired of being mistaken for a 12 year old at the supermarket.

So I want to start dressing more feminine and my age (I turned 20 this year). Finding clothes for Fall and Winter I like is easy, but taking a note from that I wore jeans all summer, I'm completely stumped this time of year.

I really don't like showing my legs. I don't want to wear shorts, but I have found some really nice dresses that I actually like. They're shorter than I'm comfortable with thought.

So: To get at the end of this long ramble:
What can I do during the summer, so I can wear the clothes that I find cute(and make them more "modest") but not overheat or look like an idiot.

Is wearing tights, or pantyhose, or whatever acceptable in the summer?
Any other tips to keep cool?
Any other tips for someone who's never had their own sense of style before?

i have bare leg phobia as well - i wear sheer (15-20 den) black tights all summer long - looks horrid but makes me feel like i have pants on. i don't think this will be acceptable with girly dresses though.
so try skin tone supersheer tights with dresses.

If its literally the actual sensation you dislike, that sucks, because bare legs when its hot feels soo good.
However, you can wear long thin skirts. They will cover your legs, but allow some airflow around them. Depends on how hot weather we are talking but if its really hot, I would go for light colors and thinner material (like cotton) though obviously make sure the material isnt see through.
There are lots of different styles of long skirts, go for a more floaty loose style for more airflow.

This is how I feel exactly! It's not about "I have bad legs and I want to hide them" I'm not too concerned with how my legs look.
But it feels almost.. vulnerable I guess.

>>6119483
The sheer would probably be better for me because of the heat... probably anything is better than blue jeans during the summer though.

I suppose you could do the tween leggings under everything look every child actress wears on the Disney Channel. Alternatively you could try knee high or thigh highs, /a/ would be happy to explain 'zetai ryouiki ' and the 4:1:2.5 ratio.

Girl, I feel you. I dress ultra-modest (cover most skin, wear a headscarf, no, I'm not muslim) most of the time and have pretty built legs from Spinning class, and it's kind of a problem when summer gets here and everyone shows everything up to their asses, so unnecessary.
I also don't shave anything and while this does affect the way I dress a little itty bitty bit, at times I go out proudly with a "short" skirt (just above my knees) and get the horrid look from other people.

My advice:
- Get long, flowy chiffon maxiskirts. They're airy enough for you to be well ventilated, but cover your skin enough for you not to be under a really hot circus tent. There's a plethora of skirts you can choose from, such as pleated, boho, mori, etc.
- I find gym and Spinning clothing very skin tight, yet covering. The ventilation on these items is superb, as athletes must keep cool during work outs.

OP, fellow femanon here.
Wearing thin but dark tights is perfectly fine is summer. Also, not all dresses are waterline-short. Try going for mid-tight lenght: they're everywhere in the shops, ranging from plain coloured-ones, to floral, to geometric shapes - whatever goes your alley.
Also, please don't stop wearing skirts and dresses once summer is gone! Wearing dresses is such a vindicating feeling from the constraints of jeans and with the right tights and leggings that can be worn year-round!
Btw, you don't have to post your legs, the anon above was just being beta.
Also, just a friendly advice, but when it comes to girls' matters, it's better to go to /cgl/ and ask there for advice. A lo more girls with a lot more useful advice there.

is mocking at the fact that I don't shave. Because, of course, women MUST shave and men don't. That's one of the pillars of society: Hairless women. Imagine what would happen if all of a sudden all the women in the world who shave turned into lesbian liberal hippie feminists who don't shave? It's repulsive because we've been taught that it's repulsive. Same as sweat, except since it's on a woman it's perceived as 100x more disgusting.
At first you're like "Wow, these hairy things are my legs, eww!" and then you get used to them more and more. Searching for pictures of other women who opt for no hair removal makes you put things in perspective: I, for example, have dark yet thin hair on my legs and blonde, thin hair on my arms. My pubic hair is sparse and light as well. I've got it easier than women who, for example, have a hairy chest or upper stomach (it happens).

Yeah I really, really don't know what I'm doing with a lot of this stuff, and just trying to learn from places online can be really confusing at first. If I have any more questions I'll probably direct it there though.
I really like the idea of skirts too, and I defiantly don't planning to stop wearing them when it gets colder! Im actually excited for fall and winter this year.. I wish summer would just blow on by.

>>6119746
Goodness I'm more ignorant about this stuff than I thought, I had to go look up what a maxi skirt was. They look really good for summer though! I'm going to have to look up all the rest of the skins of skirts you mentioned. It's kind of embarrassing, but at least I know what a pleated skirt is.

Do any of you guys have any stores or online shops you really like?

>>6119882
It's less of a fear of being slutty and more of feeling really "open" and vulnerable while not wearing anything on my legs.
Someday I might be able to wear them though, maybe from going from stages with long skirts to tights to socks to shorts or something.
What are your tips for not looking slutty while wearing shorts though?

We've been taught many things. Culture is constantly evolving and perceived attraction changes along with it. No matter how you justify it, you won't beat out the current criteria for attraction.

What do you expect out of your partner? Would you be satisfied if he was slovenly? Because that's the current perception of so much hair on a woman's legs. It's essentially your neckbeard.

I know culture evolves, look at the beauty standards of men in the 1700s and the ones we have now. Today, anyone would say a man dressed like that is a flamboyant faggot drag queen. I don't expect to personally change the beauty standards of the whole world, but I do hope to make a few people click, to make the realize they have a choice when it comes to this and it doesn't happen "just because".

My partner (husband) believes hair is hair and like me, thinks that we can choose to keep it or remove it. He is bald by choice (massively receding hairline) and used to clinically shave most of his body (just like I used to clinically wax mine). We talked it over and discovered that this is an unnecessary waste of time and money in our lives and that we prefer our and each others' bodies with hair.

Our hygiene hasn't changed, and if anything, mine has improved because I now take care of showering more thoroughly and infections of any kind in my pores aren't there anymore, which is a huge relief because armpit pore problems are a bitch.

You're supposed to go along with what society deems as attractive. That's how fashion works.

If you're looking to be toted as ugly, fine, but don't go along with this "I'm beautiful in my own way and it's all evil society's fault" horseshit. Just admit you're too lazy and useless to work towards being attractive like the rest of /fa/

I'm male and don't shave my body hair; my fiance loves it so it works out. I've never really spoken a preference for her, but I think she gets the idea that I prefer smooth legs to spiky or scraggly. I don't mind when we stay inside on weekends and she skips a few days of shaving, but I do hope she doesn't stop doing it (because I'll stop giving her ankle massages and remind her of the patriarchy).

I'm saving them now to look at in a bit, and makeup is about as foreign to me as all this clothes stuff. (I've never worn it in my life, and my mom and friends don't wear it. All they wear are jeans and tshirts.. guess that's where I got it from, huh?)

Okay.. so, there are a multitude of options that have mostly been mentioned here regarding modest clothing that still allows for stylistic choices. A woman doesn't have to don a burka in most societies. I wish you the best of luck in finding something that fits your needs. As just a comment to the shaving thing.. It's a matter of personal taste. Shaving doesn't offer any positive medical attributes, but plenty of negative ones. The negative opinions made of people who do not shave are unnecessary and unwarranted. It is your body and your choice, do what you want! Don't let anyone tell you how you should care for and carry yourself.. :) Good luck!!
