Anyway, one could easily argue that all that tech is now so commonplace and integrated that anyone could fit the description of a cyberpunk so long as their ideology lines up.

Cyberpunk was never about all tech being commonplace, nor was it integration. It's a lifestyle derivative of anarchist leaning intertwined with being able to fork bomb someone's computer with your wristwatch. It's 10% ideology and 90% literacy. Also, it's got a lot to do with wearing sunglasses.

This thread needs more modular clothing.

That's kind of what I'm saying, tho.
Tech is such a part of our lives that the way cyberpunk is presented in the OP's very dated pic is kind of irrelevant. Your cellphone can do away with half the stuff that guy is carrying, and a lot of cyberpunk authors never saw this twist coming, even if they did predict the internet.
And I'm not even sure if the archetype exists anymore - I met a lot of bonafide cyberpunks at HOPE a few years ago - most of them dressed like Redditors on their day off, regardless of how literate and ideologically charged they were. There was no look, unless you want to consider obscure graphic tees to be an essential part of the package.

If you're expecting to see cyberpunks somewhere, just go to your nearest hackitory or hackspace. They're there, rare, but they're there. Especially, if you're art of the art-tech scene and hang out at exhibitions or conferences. The OP pic is completely irrelevant to what cyberpunks wear today, which is the point of this thread to figure out what they MIGHT be wearing today. Cyberpunk authors (Gibson) never saw the internet coming, that happened.

I've spent a fair amount of time at NYC resistor and I know the mentality you're talking about. I'd consider Bre Pettis to be the modern definition of a cyberpunk, and there's a man who usually wears a nice button down or a cardigan most of the time. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is no cyberpunk uniform, the tech, the ideals and the knowledge kind of pushed any notion of a unified style out the window. There's punks, streetwear types, techninjas, menswear, all of it.
For the sake of OP, I was attempting to extrapolate what the early projections of Cyberpunk style might look like today, had the concept not become largely irrelevant.

I respectfully disagree with you on matter of precognitive conceptions of the Internet, but I'm too out of it to really get into this. I do understand why you would say that, however. It was a thing that came to life almost under its own steam. My belief is that certain visionaries saw the curve forming before it fully materialized.

Perhaps another time.

All the tech in that pic was relevant to the date of when the picture was taken. All of that was cutting edge and was what security forensics, IT companies, etc. were using at the time. It was as much a projection, as it was depicting what sort of gear a cyberpunk -at the time- would wear. There's no uniform to any subculture offshoot, there are only bits and pieces. Not every skinhead's going to be wear a Fred Perry polo, but you'll be hardpressed to find a skinhead without combat boots. What we're trying to figure out on this thread is what they'd wear today.

More than that, he thought that every system on earth would one day be linked.
"Cyberspace" as defined by Gibson is merely a consensual hallucination that gives a visually representative format for easier manipulation of large amounts of data.

The data is still the same boring shit, ones, zeros, gigabytes and port addresses. 'Cyberspace' was merely his conception of the ultimate user-friendly GUI.

Are you kidding me? With data visualization, you can see past whatever uniformity the status quo of data entry GUI into a real-time medium. Check out Julian Oliver to get an idea as to what I'm talking about. Anyways, you're pretty wrong about a few things, since Gibson didn't have any idea about the branch that came from his tree of novels, whicn in tern developed this subculture. Still, the modern day conception of what a cyberpunk would probably mean to anyone who the functioning capabilities of an ape and knows how to use google would be a dreadlocked raver with green hair wearing ski goggles. Everyone's definition of subculture varies from person to person. Also, "cyberspace" would be the complete dissolution of GUI, in place of fully utilizing all your senses a'la VR.

And I've been trying to post some of that stuff, although I have to temper all of it with the disclaimer that I can only offer conjecture based upon a modernized projection of the original aesthetic as it existed in literature and late 90's techno-hippies.
I think the skinhead comparison is a tricky one, because I'm hard pressed to imagine any one must-have garment for today's cyberpunks. The best I've been able to come up with so far are boutique tactical garments and "goth ninja" off-shoots.
