I've actually come to like his moser. I didn't think much of the brand and only had a brief summary of understanding of it. Finally did a deeper dive because I kept seeing that stupid blue watch and saw that it's nowhere near the mere zombie brand I had vague notions about it being; it has more claim to the name of "Moser" than Lange does to that name. It's kinda of like Breguet's situation.
Watchartsci boomer talks about them a lot. Still would rather spend 20+k on something else though desu senpai as much as I like the idea of they perverse apple watch with the small seconds.

>it's nowhere near the mere zombie brand I had vague notions about it being;

Ah, you're probably unfamiliar with the term zombie brand, then. The original Moser brand died in 1874, which is really incredible considering how many "old" watch brands were founded after that. It operated in communist Russia after that, meaning it very well might have been the original zombie brand.
Then it got passed around to other holding companies, etc etc etc. until it was re-founded in 2002. The brand is barely old enough to drink in the US.

Sure, they hunted down some great-great-grandson of the original guy for the veneer of legitimacy, but it's still a zombie brand at the end of the day.

I say this not as a hater, but as an owner. I just think history-wanking is bullshit.

>But why do so many people here have so much money?

There's a couple reasons:
1. this thread tends to skew a bit older. All the avatarfags are in their 30s or even 40s, for example.
2. people aren't going to be really interested in things they can't afford. Ferrari ownership boards are going to be full of rich people too.

But really, getting money isn't a problem. Spending it responsibly is. If you didn't invest your money, didn't bother with a house or a family, didn't save for retirement or anything, and just spent it as soon as you got it, you could have pretty much any watch you wanted on a pretty small salary.

>Sure, they hunted down some great-great-grandson of the original guy for the veneer of legitimacy, but it's still a zombie brand at the end of the day.
Moser's thing is a little more nuanced since the current great great is the descendant of Moser's partner who had to get the fuck out of dodge when the jews took over russia and he fled back to Switzerland. The current moser head/biz partner ancestor guy, who's actually worked in the industry since the 80s and was a manager at AP etc before he retired, bought Moser off the actual Moser great great grandson who was just a whogivesafuck guy that was used to rejigger the brand in the early 2000's. Dunno if they were a watchmaker. It's messy, but there is a chain of lineage, albeit broken a couple of times due to Mosers son wanting to galavant around the world fucking native women rather than take up the family biz and of course the jewshevik revolution and the quartz crisis (when the brand finally died).

With Lange, I wonder just how much say old Walter even had in things when Lange was "refounded" in the 90's. He'd retired decade earlier. How much of the setup and design work or anything like that had anything to do with him at all? It's quite ambiguous as to what he brought to Lange's setup besides his last name. He was trained as a watchmaker sure, decades before but hadn't worked as one for over 40 years by that point.

The finishing on 321 'Ed White' Speedmaster is nice, but it doesn't seem to be on Blancpain or Breguet levels of finishing.

There are more components in the 321 compared to Breguet and Blancpain in that price range, but I still feel like the 321 is overpriced.

There's a little more that goes into it, developing all the tooling to remake an old movement for a pretty limited run of watches costs a lot. Compared to modern movements where a lot of components and modules can be used across multiple platforms.

It was always going to be considerably more expensive than a normal Speedmaster but, yeah, a ton of it is simply prestige pricing.

>WSSA0029 Santos
I owned one and enjoyed it but still sold it.
A couple things to keep in mind:

If it's your only watch, it's great. It makes a fine casual watch on the bracelet and, on the strap, it makes a fine dress watch. Swapping takes only a few seconds. It is about as close to being a true one-watch collection as is possible. Everyone thinks Cartier watches are class but the Santos can fly under the radar if it has to.

It's not a perfect watch, though:

- No lume, of course. Some people care about that, most everyone else has ready access to electric lights in their lives.
- That bezel is a scratch magnet. Depending on how hard you wear your watches, it could look like absolute shit in a year or two.
- No microadjust on the bracelet. If your wrist size is stuck between links, you'll forever be adding or removing one, never quite getting comfortable and it will drive you crazy

The reason I sold it: I already had too many watches that did what the Santos did, but better. If you already have a sports watch and a dress watch, the Santos is redundant. When there are alternatives, it's now too fussy to be a true sports watch, it's too blocky to be a true dress watch.

Finding the units sold was easy. I want to know the most recent estimates for how many watches are produced per maker.

At some point we have to choose between a boring thread or a thread with avatarfags.
We have to accept that it's not the same and that it is more engaging, interesting and more inspiring having people in our community who we can follow in their watch journey.
How hype would it be if Finncel popped up with a new watch? Think about it.
OD getting that JLC reverso out of nowhere??? How is this NOT hype af?
Whoretadello aka /wt/? Every time he posts you don't know if he got a new watch or where he even is right now.
HamiltonChad? Bro... His long distance shots are out of this world.
Mort? He has every watch we could ever want and more.
And this is just scratching the surface.
The CatMoserChad-CMC for short. The cockwatch faggot too. The Germoid who might just be Bitteranon(???).
It's just very entertaining. It gives a certain one of a kind-character and feel and makes this thread extremely unique.
And we get to talk about watches directly THROUGH them, their objective experiences and analyse them in depth.
I love our All-stars and I hope they're doing well.

But needing to ship something to Stoll or some other watchmaker and have to deal with shit over emails for months is stupid.

It's especially stupid that they make you give all the info to make a shipping label and do nothing with it. Why do they make you type the shit twice? For your health? Fucking retards. I babysit enough retarded adults IRL, I don't need to do it online, too.

Unlike guns, the relative qualities of different movements is almost irrelevant. With guns you can have a preference for different guns based on what they look like, what kind of controls they have, what round they're chambered in, what kind of action they have, and so on. But with watch movements you rarely see your movement, absolutely nobody else ever sees it, and beyond the beat rate and what complications you have it's not possible to tell what movement is in a watch by looking at it. If a Rolex had a sellita movement in it nobody would ever know the difference without opening it even if they wore it every day. The only thing anyone know is what it looks like and feels like to wear from the outside.

I think the real issue is the lack of variety in the complications brands choose to use rather than what brand movements they're using. Sellita, Miyota and so on make all kinds of movements with small seconds, power reserve, moon phase, grand date, etc... that almost nobody ever uses because it's easy and has the greatest possible mass appeal to bring the 8384789th center seconds date wheel watch to market.

thats why I said its really all up to you, no one cares about your watch except you. If you want the best movements and all that you need to do a lot of research and find whats most attractive to your eye. 5hz is beautiful, spring drive is just fuckin cool, mechanical is outdated but also cool, quartz has its own charm, etc etc. Guns are a far more practical thing and have to do a lot more than a watch does, combined with trials for militaries and police that list extremely specific testing requirements that companies can figure out all sorts of way to fulfill. Versus if you look at watches made for military standards like the dirty dozen, they all look exactly the same more or less and have the same movement (mostly) because there are very few ways to reinvent the wheel when it comes to watches. Guns also have an edge in being more different from each other because they are much larger and much more can be done with the grip/receiver shape/magwell, watches are all trying to fit your wrist.

This brings to mind a recent occasion when I donned my Grand Seiko for a professional gathering, anticipating it would remain inconspicuous, much like my imaginary acquaintances residing within my computer assured me it would. Ironically, on that very first day, a colleague—someone with whom I had never been closer than two arm's lengths and with whom discussions of horology or "fashionable matters" had never graced our conversations—remarked, “Is that a Grand Seiko?” Remarkably, he even referenced "Zaratsu polish," a phrase I had assumed was exclusive to online discourse.

I felt compelled to clarify that it was merely a 9F model, but instead, I mumbled about acquiring it online before deftly shifting the topic. Meanwhile, you all have thoroughly deceived me, leaving me anxious that others may perceive me as either extravagantly reckless with my finances (which I indeed am) or, conversely, as unreasonably well-compensated (which I am not).

In summary, disregard the advice from /fa/ or /r/watches/, for it seems that I alone have ever ventured beyond the confines of my home.

We've seen your watch at least 1000 times but, I took the time to think about it in a more objective manner and my conclusion is that; people don't actually realise what they're seeing here.
It is an anomaly in the watch world. I won't say that it is the best value for money that you can get, because sadly this term has also been dragged through the ground and it has lost its meaning, and yet if you think about it, the fact that you can get this watch below 2000$ does not make sense.
First of all, you get the, possibly, most accurate autonomous watch on the planet, no GPS gimmicks, no radio controll no internet whatever, it's just you, in the woods, knowing the atomic time without big tech and or the government being able to track you. On top of that, you literally have a feature that is usually reserved for much, Much more expensive watches- the perpetual calendar.
Technicalities and specs aside, what do you get on the finishing part? It is as good as a grand seiko in terms of Hands and Marker finishing- Spotless, Sharp and no impurities or rough edges to be found. But what does GS-Level mean? Well it literally means that your Markers and Hands do have, on a macro level, better finished hands than 5 Digit Swiss Watches. It doesn't matter if this fact makes you angry or triggered or in doubt, but it is a Fact. The dial itself, the way they did the perception of depth, shouldn't work but it does and youc an even see the sunburst effect too.
Okay so what about exclusivity? Well what defines exclusivity?
>Low production
Check
>Locked behind the country of origin
Check
>Rare limited edition on top of said rarity to begin with
Check
So what about the case?Well it is not zaratsu but it still shouldn't be as good as it is. It is almost distortion free.
But is it all perfect? I don't think so, no. It is too thick, the movement is ugly and the bracelet is below the standards that the dial and tech have set. But again,it's 2000$

The silent majority though doesn't care about that. It's honestly just a very few individuals with too much hate and time on their hands that try to ruin it for the rest. Just buy whatever You like and let it be. If you've noticed, the loudest ones are the ones who never post any watches and are projecting the hardest. It's understandable. One contemplates for years and years going back and forth juggling in his mind if getting a 500$ watch would be financial suicide, and others seemingly buy 5 Digit watches every other week. It is a reaction that makes a lot of sense.
I don't pity them/him, don't get me wrong. People have to realise at some point that there is a disparity in wealth, maybe even an unfair one, both IRL and online. Sooner or later. It's part of growing up.

I saw and tried one on when I bought mine (whoretadello) and it was... Well disappointing because I didn't know what to expect. It doesn't seem "elegant" enough? I can't put it into words. It wasn't special enough, if that makes sense. It's not instantly apparent that something unique is going on. Granted I only had 1 minute with the watch but if I had to describe it with a single word, it would be "underwhelming". Maybe it's just not for me. Pic related also didn't feel like 350K.

I am actually close to the AD. I might drop by and ask for some pictures. I'll keep you posted.

>>18219422
For 30k for the rose gold model I'd have expected something more perfect I guess. Maybe asking too much for something that has to be "grown" over the dial.

So, basically, would you say that, at least on first glance, there's not much to it compared with a glossy black dial? At least in isolation. From what I read looking at it is like looking at a mirror because of the reflections from the crystal.
Anything weird about the temperature? SA say anything about this model at all?

>So, basically, would you say that, at least on first glance, there's not much to it compared with a glossy black dial?
Sadly, yes. But, at first glance AND inside the store. Outside Might be a totally different story.

Well you can see from the pics that I took. I think the novelty will wear off very quickly.
It's reflective yes. But just keep in mind the bucherer there isn't very well lit. Maybe you can only truly appreciate it in direct sunlight outside.
I could say, though, from the few moments I had with it that, the hands where a bit better finished than my normal pioneer, not as good as my grand seiko but it seems that they put more care into the hands. The markers are painted on, right? I mean look at it. The case, as you can see, isn't brushed at all but it's all polished instead. No black polish or tinplate/zaratsu (I think it's the same) just a normal polish with lots of distortion but it's been taken care of, every mm2 of it.
The sides also don't have those "vents".
And this was the stainless steel version, not the rose gold. I assume the rose gold version costs much more.
The movement, again, was the same but the balance bridge (?) was blue and the rotor was Gold. I think 14karats. No differences other than that.
I really like moser but this watch doesn't do it.
This is all my personal opinion and you might love it if You see it in person. To me, it's simply very underwhelming, and not even considering their asking price, just in general.
>Anything weird about the temperature?
No. Maybe in direct and prolonged sun exposure (?).
>SA say anything about this model at all?
No "my" guy wasn't there. The woman showing me this watch was just a mouthpiece not in the know. It was late, most had already left. She couldn't answer any questions even if I asked.
Apologies, I can't give you a thorough review.
Have you ever seen a higher-end piece up close? Did you feel the presence and aura emitting from said piece? This one doesn't have that.

Thinking about getting this one I think it looks nice. Is it a good watch? For about 900 online.

Do you have a full metal to compare it to by chance?

Unfortunately I don't. While I like the idea of the full metal models, I have yet to find a GMB that looks right to me.

>>18219740 Years ago, just before sunrise in San Miguel de Allende, I listened to the CEO of a large American media company describe the reinvigorating effect of seeing his romantic partner being romantic with someone other than himself. It gave him a new appreciation for someone he knew all too well. It helped him see her afresh. Now, watches are not people, but the same principle applies. And to experience this revitalization without rolling the dice on your relationship, give a friend (or lover) your watch while you two are hanging out. I bet you'll see the watch – and possibly even the person – in a different light.

What's the most similar watch to a Seiko SARB that has an anti-reflective crystal and varied markings for hours 3,6, and 9? It's an autistic detail but I don't think autism is out of place in /wtg/, it just looks more balanced imo. Otherwise seems like a pretty perfect watch.

Most places aren't "well lit." everything looks pretty good in a light box, but we don't live in light boxes and that's not a genuine day to day experience.
