What's the point of a mechanical watch in this day and age? Even if you like them why would you want to get fucked over by some slimy jeweler just for sake of perceived luxury.

>> No.18152543

There's only one reason and that's the cool factor. A lot more people find a mechanical watch impressive nowadays compared to a quartz watch due to growing up with iPhones and the like.

A bit small, but it could look nice with some colorful NATO.Now the questions, does it run?, quartz or battery? (I suppose it is a quartz watch). If it runs with a battery, maybe just some glass polishing would be enough. If its acrylic glass, you can polish it yourself for cheap with polywatch or similar, if real glass, if real glass, then proper glass polishing paste.

Suggest a watch for me:
-Budget: $150-200
Watch type: uhh, casual-ish? I like my SNKL, its classy, but still casual.
-Movement: I'd prefer automatic
-Desired features: seconds hand at 6oclock position similar to >>18152449 but saw a couple others at 9, 12, or 3 oclock that seemed to look good. Added date complication would be nice too. I'm thinking a subtle color like a dark blue or green, but a white/creme face might look good too.
Strap: No strong preference really, I like the metal bracelet on my SNKL, the expanding spring metal bands are nice, but otherwise a decent leather would be nice too.
Size: Not sure my exact wrist size and I don't care. I generally prefer 36mm faces, 38 feels slightly too big to me, but nobody has ever told me 38mm looks too big on me.

Pic is my SNKL, just love it.

>>18152698
Pic I think is 38mm, almost feels too big.

I'd like a subtle coloration, silver is fine and I don't have any gold watches but I think if there were gold accents I wouldn't be opposed: similar to seiko's with black, brown, or blue dials and gold indeces and hands.

A white/cream color face might be good too. Most of my watches are numberless because fonts are tricky to get right in my view.

I like my Seiko, I do often consider getting another. But I don't think Seiko offers an offset seconds hand like the Baltics, or those old-style watches. I really like mid-century design for furniture and fashion, was hoping for something like that but not $600 for a Baltic.

>6.25” wristlet, so 39mm or smaller (38 with 46 l2l seems to be my sweet spot)

Current watches in my collection include a green baby alpinist, black jazz master, brew metric, and blue San Martin bb58 (38mm version and my beater in the truest sense of the word- looking for a main daily dive watch that isn’t a Chinese shitter)

Looking primarily at the CW C60 300. I wish the SPB143 came in a smaller size because I really like the look of it and I’m okay with the movement that’s in my baby alpinist. Open to used/grey market.

That's too broad a question. Is that $60k before or after taxes? Is that $60k your salary or salary plus investment returns? What do your expenses look like? Do you live in on the expensive coasts or cheap flyover states? Any debts, like car or school? What percentage of your salary are you saving/investing?

If your financial situation is shitty enough, it's possible you can be making 60k and shouldn't spend 2 dollars on a gas station hot dog.

In what scenario do you think having immediate access to $10,000 cash is a necessary thing? Sounds more like you're anticipating an impulse purchase of a toy and don't' want to dick around the bank for an hour getting that much cash.

Keeping some cash, maybe $2k in a safe place is reasonable, but $10k seems excessive considering it shouldn't be difficult to go get it, insurance doesn't cover that much if it gets stolen or destroyed (fire) and there just isn't a conceivable scenario where you'd need that much instantly.

If everyone agrees, it means that it is universally, across the board, the best at that budget. Despite the many differences, one option is so far above the rest that there's really no point in discussing it because the advantage or value it gives must be so incredible that all widely different tastes unanimously agree it's the best.

As such, taking anything else at that budget would simply be pure retardation, because even something like it being overly popular or wanting to be unique will have likely been taken into account

If the end of the world happens you're not bribing anyone with $10k, let alone getting a passport and flying anywhere.
>My wife is from a shithole country
$10k might get you over the border from whatever flavor of mexico she's from. Or is it whatever communist asian jungle?
>I have a gold bar too for the same reason
is it a 1 ounce bar, or a 1kilogram bar? Because if its anything other than 1 kilo and the end of the world is happening, you essentially have a coupon to be robbed.

Say I have an airplane, a pile of food, a whole bunch of guns, and some friends. You and your tardwife show up with $10k cash and a couple couple ounces of gold. You know what I'm doing? I'm taking both and telling you to walk back where you came from. Could cash be useful? Maybe in large quantities, but $10k is such a small amount for actual emergencies.

Before the week is out, take $8000 (or more) of that and put it in the bank, even a CD would be better than rotting in the closet. You're not doing anything significant in an actual disaster with $10k.

Wrist size?,I'm a wristlet myself, about 6.5-6.7 inches, at some point I considered Oris aquis cal400,but read somewhere that it was a strange movement,to set hands correctly you had to go backwards and that the movement even if it had fine adjustment system, didn't came adjusted and even some watch had Seiko levels of adjusting. In the end it was two watches Inreally liked,Tudor black bay 58 and the new Longines Legend Diver (39mm), Inguess I bought bb58 because it was less flashy. I also checked bb54,but felt it was rather small and I already had a small 37mm diver and a diver feels better when they are not very small but also not enormous and bb58 looked like it had the best size, did not feel like an undersized watch and had some extra colour and bezel design, maybe I'm an autist, but disliked the bb54 bezel being white while dial being golden and not having that nice red triqngle. And the size,as you can see is fine as fuck,no big,no small.

In terms of construction and leakages, etc, none. The pens are well-made in that regard, but in terms of nib tuning, I've owned 3 Lamy 2000s and, out of the box, one nib wrote perfectly, one nib needed minor tuning and one was completely unsalvageable and needed to be replaced under warranty.

I haven't written with mine for years but it's "the perfect pen" as long as you fit the following:
>student that writes notes in lectures
>whitecollar wagie that needs to scribble notes in meetings
For either it is apt because:
>holds a lot of ink
>can remain uncapped for longer than a regular nib
>quick uncapping, literally no screwing around
>not flashy or attention grabbing: just looks like some pen from a distance
If you don't require it for any of the above reasons you can safely look elsewhere and not miss out on much.

I bought a bunch when they were cheaper than they are now whenever the local lamy dealer had a sale.
The only one that gave me trouble was the BB, which is a common problem these days with german nibs. Baby's bottom issues. I have no idea if they've fixed it.
A Japanese stationery company that made Mitsubishi pencils bought Lamy.
Apparently they're in good hands.
