I'm going to England and Scotland this winter with my family. What would a good winter fragrance be? I live in Florida so most of my collection leans towards hot weather fragrances.

I've never tried it but leaning towards Serge Lutens Chergui because I'm thinking warm/tobacco. I really liked PdM Herod because it felt balanced and the incense note kept it interesting but the performance was pretty poor. Price isn't a huge deal because I'm likely just going to buy a 5ml decant since I won't be able to wear it all that often at home.

>>18146726
I think it depends. The Sandalwood EOs I have smell kind of like dirty incense and you can go anosmic on them pretty quick. I think there is as lot of variability in sandalwood. If you've ever smelled Le Labo Santal 33 it has this sort of woody/coconut/pickle thing going on that is vastly different from the sandalwood I have. I'm assuming quality and the variety of sandalwood makes a big difference.

I'm currently working on a fragrance line. Hoping to have 4-5 completed perfumes by the end of the summer. I plan on marketing them as "affordable niche" with prices anywhere from $50-80. I've seen some people try and do this in the past and the product, even if the fragrance is perfectly fine, seems unpolished. the packaging/bottling is cheesy and everything looks cheap. No story for the fragrances. I'm learning that so much in the fragrance world is just marketing.

I'm getting close to having some, in my opinion, pretty solid fragrances that definitely stand out from the designer crowd. Anyone else here make perfumes?

I think so. So far only my wife has tried them but I plan on giving some samples away for feedback once they get a little more polished. The best one at the moment is a sort of citrus/ woody sport fragrance that develops into this tropical/coconut woody base. This will probably be the most mass appealing.

The other one is a little strange and is supposed to remind you of a dead mall. Uses some artificial strawberry aldehydes and raspberry ketones to deliver this kind of jarring emptiness that I think is interesting. That one still needs work but it's getting there. The hardest part is balancing your aromachems. Just because stuff smells good together on strips doesn't mean they actually function well once in a perfume. Even small ammounts of certain items will just nuke the performance of a fragrance. People shit all over Iso E super , ambroxan, hedione etc but it is incredibly hard to make a modern, diffusive fragrance without those workhorses.

It’s just weird. The opening is kind of nasty, opposed to Original Santal, but after the opening they become pretty much the same, an odd raspberry-laundry mixture that doesn’t even pretend to be anything but synthetic, but it’s still kind of nice. It’s just very linear after the opening, and thus can get pretty tiresome to wear. But really, you have to see it yourself, there’s pretty much nothing else you can compare it to except Original Santal (very similar) and Joop Homme (kinda same vibes, but it’s sweet and loud as hell unlike Individuel).

Also, the bottle is somewhat hilarious, it’s ultra slim and tall and wide as fuck. Got the 75ml ine because it was cheapest option I found, and it feels awkward to hold.

individuel is mostly interesting because it, joop homme and original santal combined represent a single opus in pierre bourdon’s oeuvre, the way that cool water/green irish tweed, french lover/spice and wood, the brun/millesime imperial, etc. do. the fact that bourdon ended up repeating the same idea in his fractionated catalog 3 times points to the idea being of very strong interest to him in order to warrant repeated revisits, and anyone interested in his post-classical style of perfumery obviously needs to pay it due attention.

if you haven’t tried the brun, you should. it’s equally as iconoclastic and bizarre, which is especially strange considering it’s really just the final form of millesime imperial, the perfume that was mass appealing enough to spawn an entire bestselling franchise of celebrity clones long before aventus was even a twinkle in herault’s eye. bourdon’s genius is only eclipsed by the fragmentation and scattershot nature of his releases; maybe some day in the distant future when perfume is considered an art, someone will try to catalog all of them so they can be enjoyed all in one place.

Hey anons, any tips on shopping in Saks/Nordstrom and luxurious malls?

It struck me today while holding a 100ml full tester bottle of yves saint laurent la nuit de l'homme without a beeper tag stuck on it ...
I tested it, I have never smelled something so heavenly ... I nearly teared up actually, it took me to a place of love and warmth. I was almost compelled to slip it into the front pocket of my surplus army jacket. It's 70 dollars which I clearly cant afford.

Ofcourse that's illegal and the loss prevention and security would be air tight in those luxurious malls.
However it's nice thought for a impoverished and souless student to ponder. How beautiful would life be if I can drown myself in the perfumes warmth and perpetually embraced by its comforting vanilla hug

it's been said before in the general, but most of the time, a fragrance is simply an easy way for someone to compliment you if they already wanted to. For example, last week I sprayed some Habit Rouge EdP before heading to work, so I'm already in a suit, moisturized with product in my hair. In the elevator going down, some MILFy looking woman in athliesure told me I smelled good. did I smell good? You bet, Habit Rouge is a masterpiece, but I doubt she would have said anything if I looked unclean and unapproachable.

I just said thank you, I try, and left the elevator quickly.

What the fuck is wrong with you stupid, spineless zoomer faggots and your obsession with compliments?
Let's ignore the fact that you personally are too ugly both in body and spirit to get compliments for anything. We're going to do something wild and difficult, it's called thinking about other people besides ourselves. I know, I know, it is crazy and you've never done it, but bear with me.

1: How many times have you seen your friends received compliments on their fragrance or clothing? Or more realistically how many times have you seen people in public places receive compliments from stranger?
2: How many times have *you* complimented someone on their fragrance? What's that? You expect other people to engage in behavior you don't, and you base purchases on this delusion? Wow, very cool.

Tldr You're a fucking faggot, buy shit you like, shut the fuck up about compliments. If a a woman you don't know and aren't about to fuck compliments you on anything fashion related, she views you as a faggot at worst and harmlessly not sexual at best. This isn't true for women once you actually date them but you have no experience with that so that's a topic for another day.

I would absolutely recommend chergui, it's one of my favorites. I don't really believe in Winter/Summer frags (the only thing that's really weather-dependent is projection and powerful scents are better avoided/minimized in the heat) and this was basically my sole frag last Summer. It's got a strong but rather intimate presence, leaves a nice silage but doesn't really project much. Like the other anon said, it's powdery and quite sweet, much more so than I originally expected, though it's somewhat tamed and multidimensional. It's darkish and ambery, in my head invokes the image of a fancy theater and more specifically red drapes.

The opening citrus notes are little too strong for me in the EDT version, but I really like the dry-down. If you get an opportunity try out the new Parfum version of Vetiver. It is really nice. I bought that version after trying both the EDT and Parfum version. The opening is a lot smoother and less biting to my nose. The scent gets rounded out and feels a bit fuller with additional notes notably juniper it still has the same nice Vetiver base note (well nice assuming you like vetiver) but comes off slightly cool as compared to the EDT version which comes off slightly warm.

Look at the H24 line. It isn't particularly woody, but I feel like any fragrance with a strong woody note could easily be oversprayed. I'm hard shilling the Herbes Vives version of H24 because I love, but it's green freshness will only last for like an hour and a half. But that would be perfect for a gym fragrance. If you are spending longer than an hour in your gym session you probably need to fix it up and take fewer breaks anyway. But I think any H24 could work as a gym fragrance. That being said I fundamentally disagree with wearing fragrances while at the gym, because I feel like it can be rude to fellow guests who don't want to smell anything. But you won't change your mind based on the opinion of some random anon on a Nepalese Numismatics enthusiast forum, so the best I can do is suggest good fragrance that will be the least likely to offend your fellow patrons.

Trying out Toy Boy. I mostly get a blast of pink pepper, vetiver, and clove in the opening backed up sweetness from the pear and amber - more spicy and woody than sweet. The rose comes through after the opening, but isn't strong. Can't speak on longevity, but it seems to stick close to the skin (I am using a shitty 2 ml atomizer though). Not bad for ~$40.

well my point was that people with that mindset would have been in play when Chanel released it's parfum version of BDC. And presumably that mindset would have lead them to think Parfum must be better than Eau De Parfum so I need to upgrade. But EdP is still currently outselling the Parfum version. So perhaps people with that particular mindset aren't present in high enough quantities among people interested in the Bleu de Chanel line, which would decrease the motivation of Chanel to put out an Elixir version.

>> No.18148764

The only things that, in my mind, stand out as explicitly gendered fragrances are really sweet fragrances like Black Opium for women and strong ambroxan fragrances like Sauvage for men. Is there a good alternative to reformulated French Lover? Eloge du Traitre is impossible to find and CDG Laurel smells like a generic Springfield fragrance I had 10 years ago. Is Yatagan similar?

I think a handful are really very good. By the Fireplace and Jazz Club are good. The most underappreciated is In from the Garden though. it's a sort of fresh tomato leaf and white floral that I haven't seen done before.

Some people hate them. Performance on a few is pretty poor. For 40 bucks you can make up your own mind. I think it's worth it.
