What's a frag that smells like a hotel lobby or spa?
I remember when I went to Barcelona to a 5 star hotel, the lobby and especially the spa smelled amazing. This kind of masculine, clean, fresh scent that was also incredibly smooth and cozy. I don't know what notes were in there but I doubt there was much citrus considering how smooth it was. I don't know though. It was very aromatic, very clean. You probably know the kind of scent I'm talking about if you've ever been to a luxury spa.
Which frags are reminiscent of that kind of scent?

A common pattern I have noticed among the users who have sampled the largest amounts of fragrances on parfumo (500-1000), is that they all end up settling for the same high-end brands. If the most experienced people in this market unanimously tend to regard Roja, Xerjoff, Clive Christian and similar top-tier brands as the most full bottle worthy options, then they can't be that bad. This only leads me to the conclusion that the hate they get in this general is merely poorfag seething by people who are scraping together their last pennies in order to find cheaper alternatives and "value propositions".

This has always been the case. The poorfags will never admit it simply because it’s a great source of insecurity for them. Those expensive brands are definitely still overpriced imo but they are undoubtedly the most consistent brands. Unironically believing that cheap synthetic disgusting fragrances like cool water can compete is astronomical cope and a sign of mental illness. The reality is this: if everyone had infinite wealth (or fragrances were free) and there were no prestige or names associated with each scent, everyone would be walking around with scents from houses like Xerjoff, intio, and amouage

Just anecdotally, I've personally found there is very little difference in reactions to high end brands and typical designer slop. Really one in my circle of family and friends knows anything about fragrances but me (the women usually feel some kind of way about at least a few brands because perfume and cosmetics are intrinsically linked, but 99% of men I know could not give less of a fuck unless they're asking me for advice on what to buy), and when I ask for their opinions, I've never noticed them gravitate toward the high end stuff more than the cheaper stuff, it's a fairly even split.

I try not to lead them, either. If the fragrance retails for $400 I don't tell them until after, and I buy fragrances frequently enough that they no longer care about my feelings toward any one of them. If they don't really like it, they can just say so without having to worry about my feelings because I have ten gorillian fragrances so who cares.

Although, weirdly, I do tend to get more unsolicited compliments from strangers when I wear expensive shit. And I mean that (almost) literally. PDM and Creed have gotten me more compliments than any of my weird nichey fragcom-approved fragrances. My most complimented fragrances from strangers are Layton, Pegasus, Carlisle, Viking and Aventus. And funny enough, I'm wearing an F-batch Aventus and that's the one fragcom hates most. I firmly believe that Blackrock/Kering did something to improve performance. I've owned other batches (mind you, they weren't the REALLY old batches everyone loved, but it was pre-buyout) and they rarely if ever pulled unsolicited compliments. But loud, attention grabbers always pull more compliments simply because people can smell them better.

As for the online hate, luxury brands have a much higher bar to clear. As they should. No one is going to get pissed if a $15 fragrance sucks, but if you're charging $400 people will much less forgiving. At that price it had better be fucking amazing.

Probably because smelling a fragrance up close is a fundamentally different experience than smelling it in the air. Especially strong fragrances. A lot of times people will compliment a fragrance when they smell it two inches from their nose, but you never get unsolicited compliments because it's too weak for anyone who isn't mid-coitus to smell it in the air.

The opposite is often true of loud fragrances. When they put their nose up close they get overwhelmed and dislike it, but then you'll find that tons of people compliment it in the wild when you walk past them. I've actually had this happen with the exact same people. They disliked it when I asked, but then complimented it later when I walked by them.

What's funny is that people will do this with their own fragrance without realizing it and they have no idea what they actually smell like. I once had some middle eastern dude in a bodega tell me I smelled amazing and asked what I was wearing. I told him it was Sauvage EDP and he was amazed and annoyed because apparently he blind bought it based on the hype and didn't like it when he smelled it.

Yeah, skin chemistry and stinky arab-stink play a role, but generally PH levels don't change a fragrance so much that you wouldn't recognize it, plus Muslims can't smell their own body odor so I don't think that was a factor. I think just never bothered to get a sense of what it smelled like in the air.

Tonnerre is smoky as hell but also has brief aquatic undertones which may undermine the whole “hell” vibe.
Tyrannosaurus Rex fits the description very well.
I wouldn’t call it apocalyptic or hellish, but Iron Duke is smokey, leather, and metallic notes in all the best ways.

For the meme answer you could also grab La Fin du Monde from ELDO (literally “The End of the World”), but it doesn’t fit your description in the slightest. Powdery sweet scent, supposedly including popcorn (I didn’t get that at all).

T-Rex is prob your best bet.

pick a frag put it on skin 1-4 sprays open up fragrantica, basenotes and parfumo and maybe a trusted reviewer and sniff and try to find the notes

Genuinely just try and smell things that are used in fragrances. For some things its easy like vanilla, leather, tobacco, certain flowers, etc. Other compounds may not be around you depending on where you live in which case the best option is to order the oils they use in the perfumes. This can be expensive and time consuming. There is no need to do all that to enjoy a fragrance however, its just if you want to REALLY understand what you're smelling. Not at all. I have both.
EdRH is more citrus heavy, more modern, lighter with a woodsy myrrh drydown. Think tart lemonade with a hint of green and that myrrh drydown.
Cerruti 1881 reads as more old school, barbershopy, more green, pine, cassia leaf, much more floral too. Cerruti performs better on me.

Clearly generated with something along the lines of “Draw candy in an ashtray”.

It nailed the classic smoke trail, but completely missed the cigarette it should be coming from.

And the ashtray has like… 2 attempts at the little dips to set a burning cigarette in but are both incomplete aberrations in the metal.

today when I got to work she came to hug me and she had the most divine scent. it legit made me insane, so much so that the next time she came to my room, I held my arms forward and told her I needed to smell her again. I was sitting down when she came up and I just hugged her torso and buried my head on her tits (they're huge). Now I'm thinking that if it werent for the fact that I'm her boss I would probably get fired for harassment. anyway she told me that what she had on was montblanc explorer.
my point is, what can I buy to one up her scent? I hate to be the one on the ropes. she absolutely loves when I have dh2020 on as well.

HELP
I need something that actually smells like outside, the outdoors. I really like my natural smell and people comment on it often, mostly that I smell woody or like the forest after rain. I want to smell like I normally do but enhanced, and gender neutral. A lot of outdoor smells add musk and other masculine nodes. I’m a twink so something like that wouldn’t match me.

Bit of a stretch, but sample Yatagan. The opening is quite strong, but settles down to a pleasant forest smell. Although, it's more smoky and dry rather than damp, leans masculine. It's current timid performance may match your twink status though.

In general vetiver has an earthy smell and a lot of people don't really like it. Green fragrances have (tragically, in my opinion) fallen out of fashion in the last twenty or so years. Vetiver seems really divisive these days and a lot of people just hate it altogether. Vetiver in and of itself is considered an "old man" smell by some, likely because it hasn't been horribly popular in a very long time and you're much more likely to encounter a 50+ year old man wearing a vetiver heavy fragrance than you are a 22 year old man wearing one.

That said, if you've tried Vetiver fragrances in the past and enjoyed them, then I don't think you're going to find Guerlain Vetiver to be an old man fragrance, despite the fact that it is decades older than something like Obsession or Polo Green or other scents that typically get that label. A lot of those older Guerlains smell unusually timeless. This is usually because their older fragrances were genre defining. Shalimar set the bar for western "oriental" fragrances. Vetiver set the bar for masculine vetiver fragrances. Habit Rouge set the bar for men's amber fragrances. All of these are used as a reference point by other perfumers to this day.

As for the burnt rubber smell, the most popular vetiver types used in perfumery seem to be Haitian vetiver, which smells fairly clean and airy, and Javanese vetiver, which is much darker and smokier. Guerlain Vetiver uses bourbon vetiver, which is definitely on the cleaner/less smoky end of the spectrum. GV has a nice green/foresty element from the vetiver and oakmoss, but it's also tempered with some sweetness from the tobacco and vanilla. It has an almost ethereal quality. It reminds me of walking in the more densely wooded areas of Central Park at dusk when the Winter has started to break and the air is crisp and comfortable. Really gorgeous scent.

Sauvage EDP is played out, but it's probably the best option of the designers. Percival smells nice, but it's way too generic to justify the price even at discounters, and isn't even the first fresh fragrance I would recommend from PDM's range. Sedley and Perseus are better, but still overpriced. AHS and L'homme are just about as played out as Sauvage EDP, but more boring in my opinion. I have 2 and 2 Man which I both like very much. Very interesting scent that somehow still works, and I haven't smelled that kind of DNA anywhere else. The 2 and 2Man are actually so different that I don't consider them them flankers.

2 is fresh and crisp but I don't detect any citrus at the top. The tea and mate notes up top open into bay leaf, coriander, and nutmeg in the body which is such a wild yet fresh transition. It has a LOT of body to it. it's got all the notes I would expect from an 80s powerhouse, but it feels modern and fresh. I think it's great.

The 2 Man flanker tones down the fresh spices and adds leather saffron and iris. It smells like a fresh leather belt. It smells fucking great. Really masculine and really sexy actually.

No sweetness or citrus in either one (there is but they're blended in so they don't stand out.) They're both 'complete' fragrances and I would recommend getting a sample of both.
