that may have been an example of a dust gatherer. Having said that price point isnt really what matters. You might like a $500 watch more than most $5k ones depending on the watch. The important thing is to not settling. Buy a watch because its one you genuinely want, and if that is one that is going to require saving up do so.

I agree. Problem is that the watches I really (think that I) want cost 30K. So I end up buying watches ranging from 5K to 10K instead because I wear them daily and I don't want to ruin a 30K watch.
But I guess it might be time to start saving up.
Obviously I love my watches and they aren't a compromise, it's just that I can't justify myself, like I said, to daily wear the 30K watch(es). Maybe that's a price range that's out of my league.

Going though the catalog and I saw this motherfucker, wore it on my wrist for 8 straight years until I got bored, good watch but the integrated bracelet was no good for my wrist and I ended wearing it really loose. The funny thing is that it kept extremely good timing, around +16seconds per year.

I've had two semi-bad experiences.

Before the coof, I had a Speedmaster Pro serviced by Omega, the turnaround time was normal (six weeks) but when I got it back, it was losing a minute per day and the winding stem felt incredibly stiff. I turned right around and went back to the AD. They apologized profusely, sent the watch back out and expedited it, and gave me a free strap. Two weeks later, I had my watch back and it was perfect. I'd still rather they didn't fuck up in the first place.

During the coof, I sent a JLC to be serviced, since the winding mechanism had failed. It took five months to get my watch back. It was perfect when it came back, but getting any kind of communication from them was like pulling teeth. They couldn't even be bothered to say
"Sorry, we're short-staffed at the service center because Switzerland is locked down."

I think it comes down to what the watch was designed for, in determining whether a watch looks better on a bracelet or a strap.

Rolex's design (and Tudor's, for that matter) is designed around the bracelet so they look better on the bracelet. A Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, on the other hand, was designed around a strap, so it looks worse on the bracelet.

Dress watches can look good on a bracelet if it's like one of those old-style fine, gold mesh-looking bands.

do you know the story of the gshock? the initial inventor of it, his dad handed him down his old mechanical watch. one day he dropped it on his way to work and it instantly broke. he was driven to make a watch that would survive such falls (and was ultimately inspired by watching a kid play with a plastic bouncy ball at a park)

definitely not. Most people would not notice the difference between second hands unless you point it out when they are looking closey. They definitely wont notice just from you wearing it. Hello, how are you doing anon? Here's my P66 Shade. I bought it because I like the design of the dial a lot. I appreciate the tritium gas tubes and their constant subtle glow inside it. It's a shame that it uses a cheap Ronda quartz movement instead of an ETA one.
I'm planning to acquire a Seiko SRPG37 J model next (for the "Made in Japan" stamp) since it's the only field watch with the dial (day/date is really nice) and features that I like the most. It has an exhibition caseback so I can have a look at the movement inside and it has handwinding as well (handwinding feels nice and sounds nice). The domed hardlex crystal also makes it look really beautiful and I like its pencil hour/minute hands.
I am also looking at the Marathon JDD for its tritium gas tubes and its Sellita movement which has day date and supports instant day/date change (a very nice feature imo). What do you think anon?

I like it. The Snowflake hands are supposed to go with a Snowflake dial.
I very much appreciate the form-follows-function design of it and I wish more watchmakers would follow suit.

It's very casual so I think it would pair nicely with a dressy-leaning daily wearer like a Datejust.

I didnt like the oyster bracelet that was an option for the early BB36 when I got mine, but I really like the look of the new Jubilee on the current ones

The point is a lot of people legitimately think you have to have a bunch of widgets in your watch to have a good watch when not only is that simply not true but if anything it can make it more of a pain in the ass to wear the watch if you aren't going to wear it every day and you have to set it every time it comes up in your rotation. This. People have similar attitudes about who made the movements: they prize in-house movements and consider third-party movements inferior. But there are real advantages to third-party movements: they're well-tested, well-understood, and straightforward to service.

People aren't wrong to feel this way. It really is impressive when a movement was designed in-house and has lots of complications. But you might reconsider your tradeoffs when you discover it's a big expensive hassle to service your watches.

that festina is very gaudy and has a cheap movement inside, but if you like the dial layout or the overall design of that particular watch, it's not great, since for under 200$, for a chrono, you'll only get seiko mechaquartz movements at best, not that they're bad per se
the design itself is only replicated on other cheapshit watches like invicta
honestly, at that price point, go for aliexpress brands like addiesdive/steeldive, pagani design, san martin(more expensive)
pagani design has a lot of speedmaster """homages""" for really cheap, with those seiko movements, they will at least look somewhat decent from a far, unlike the festina
