I didn't want to spend TAG Heuer money on a base model Eco-Drive.
I am currently saving for a The Citizen Chronomaster with a WASHI paper dial. It is hand made in Japan with traditional methods and all the fibers are hand picked and folded tens of times to construct this perfect traditional WASHI look.
As I can't access one now I am coping with a regular Chronomaster (it is only +-5 spy but has bee serving me well so far). The hands are inspired by traditional Japanese Katana and Wakisashi swords and the date window is inspired by the sacred well next to Citizen's headquarters in Nishitokyo.
Maybe I'll invest in a Emporio Armani timepiece too in the future once I have the funds.

There are other smaller examples of skin-divers out there. Longines makes one, if I remember correctly. Of course, there's also the Tudor BB54.

I'm gonna give you probably the best advice you're going to get out of this thread. My general recommendation to you is to go and try a bunch of watches on at an AD, write down which ones felt comfortable, and do some research. Now, seeing as you're asking for something in the sub $300 range, you're going to be limited in choice, but there are a lot of good brands out there. If you want to go digital, your best bet is going to be G-Shock. Aim for models that have: solar (means you don't have to change the battery), multiband 6 (means it will never be off by a second if you can get signals, bluetooth (means you can adjust time-keeping if/when they get rid of multiband frequencies), positive display (negative display on base g-shock is usually dogshit). If you want something weird and retro, go with a Bulova Computron.
If you want something automatic, you have your choice from whatever Bulova/Hamilton/Seiko have in that range. Seiko makes a good 38mm dive watch that is pretty small, but their movements bum out over time. Nothing is going to blow you away in terms of quality, but they're well made watches. Can always go for a cheap Timex.

I went to a store for another watch and got it by accident. It's good. I think movement is regulated cos it's withing few spd. Maybe that's why it's 4x the price. If you don't mind the price tag get. Even better is to go to a store and try it. I loved it on the spot. The bracelet is fine. It's light and comfortable to wear as a daily. Just don't scratch it like I did. The hardlex is fine. I never had issue with reflections like with sapphire cases from china. Specs aren't everything.

It's the tightness of the graining and the application of the lacquer. On expensive watches, the radial brushing is very finely done. On the very best sunbursts, you can't see the graining at all. The lacquer over the dial plate is also applied better and in more layers so the dial looks like it's glowing.

That's an expensive process and cheap watches just aren't worth putting in that level of production cost.
