After careful meditation and thorough consideration I've finally arrived to the conclusion that quartz watches are shit.
Even if it's radio sync, haq, has a jeweled serviceable movement etc, it doesn't matter.
Quartz in it's very essence goes against western watchmaking tradition and values. If you own a quartz watch or support the general notion of owning quartz timekeepers you are part of the problem. Do not enable hate.

Yes, that kind of wear is normal Steel may be hard, but it is not indistructible and over the course of time, pretty much anything can create microscopic scratches. All those scratches add up to dulling the finish.

I think i'd get it from jomashop or chrono24 instead. Chrono especially is calculating way less in taxes. I'm still a bit torn on the hesalite vs sapphire version though. Im considering getting the hesalite from joma at $5800 (they have the sapphire for $6650). I didnt notice a huge difference in person between them but i didnt look at them much at very off angles and some pics/videos ive seen of that the sapphire warps the view a lot. Nice to see the movement but not sure its a thousand dollars nice

Okay, slow the fuck down. First, the sapphire version is an idiot filter. You buy it when you don't know much about watches because "look at the movement" and "it won't get scratched when I hit my wife with it".

Second, buy the previous model that comes in the big NASA box. That one is collectible. Never before or since did you get such a collectors edition box in a normal production model under 5k. The new model is a sad joke by comparison.

Finally, buy it used on C24 and aim for a good condition unpolished piece around $5k.

I bought this at the Scottsdale Omega Boutique last month, it's the Hesalite Moonwatch 3861. My opinion is: for your first luxury watch to buy new, so that every scratch is yours, and you know the exact status of the service life and story. Do not buy with investment in mind, buy with the full intent to wear it to your own funeral, for the first one. Yes you "lose" 1k walking out the door, but this shouldn't be about return on investment.

I prefer the Hesalite as a domed crystal gives a warmth and vintage feel to the dial that works very well with a 1960s design. Sapphire sandwich is also 1k more.

The other user is recommending you to buy a used previous model (1861) which is a fine watch, but objextively "worse" in features. Aesthetics are up to you, but unless you're buying a copper plated "pre-moon" movement you're not buying an actual moonwatch regardless. In my opinion the 3861 is the best speedmaster yet produced: most accurate, longest service life, most magnetic resistance, and most features.

Tldr, I recommend you save and buy from a Boutique if you can, and AD if you can't because warranty matters on these, the debate over "what is a true moonwatch" isn't winnable unless it's a pre 1968. Don't rush your first nice watch, unlike other brands, Omega will always have a moonwatch in stock.

This was my thought process as well. Once youve lost your luxury virginity so to speak that matters less, but the first one seems like it should be special and wholly yours.
>I recommend you save and buy from a Boutique if you can, and AD if you can't because warranty matters on these
No ADs besides the boutique. I contacted professional dealer on chrono24 for new ones and they said they are full 5 year warranties just like from an AD, they have real photos of the watch and warranty cards so seems like thats still 'new'. I dont want to buy from the physical store here for tax reasons, if you really think it's that worth getting directly from omega i would order from their site. Honestly new from an online seller seems more new than from a store where who knows how many people have handled it, but maybe im wrong there.

Unless that warranty is the Factory Omega Warranty that is valid in your region, it is not "just like from an AD". Secondary "seller warranties" aren't worth the paper they are printed on when the only people that can service this movement to spec are Omega themselves.

If you can't buy in person for tax reasons, wait until you're traveling somewhere with lower taxes to buy in person. If you absolutely must, order from Omega itself online, but do not trust an online dealer who will not promise a full, valid, Omega warranty.

But they really do try to make is a special occasion, and usually they will give you a gift (a bottle of Champagne, a NATO strap if you express interest, chocolates, etc) as well.

im gonna start talking about cars now because thats where my autism truly lies and it kinda contradicts what i just said: if i had the opportunity to buy any porsche i wanted i would lean towards a 997 GT2/3 or an aircooled one instead of a brand new one. these cars are older, slower, and have been likely passed around by insanely rich old fucks who have each farted in the seats. i don't give a shit though, because air cooled porsches aren't being made anymore and the 997 GTs have mezger engines in them. on top of this they can be cheaper than a brand spankin new gt3 so its pretty much a win-win for me.

so maybe you could research all the past speedy models inside and out to find certain quirks that you highly desire but can't find in the current ones and decide based on that

We have very similar tastes, although my grail car is a 911 gt3 (not sure on rs or non rs) in purple. I do love a lot of their older models though. I'm pretty much decided i want a new speedmaster. Like the other anon said unless you go truely vintage its not the exact watch that went to the moon and while that is part of the appeal to me theres more to it than that. I dont even remember what made me want an omega as my first real watch purchase back when i was younger. Maybe it was seeing bond in a seamaster or just the look of them or that they werent just a standard rolex. Having worn the new speedmaster in person i can't get it off my mind. The new bracelet is very nice
even if its not the best ive seen. I worried about getting another black dial watch especially one without a date but something about it just really won me over when i had it in hand. They very easily could have sold me the watch when i was there yesterday, they just made no attempt to. I had honestly planned on buying something in that range.

If you had mentionned other brands then it could have been a concern but Omega's policy is specifically not to do this kind of gatekeeping and be welcoming for all types of buyers. It's part of Swatch's general policy of making the brand a more "accessible" brand, not so much in terms of pricing but in terms of process. To your questions:
1. That's a Fluco Rally strap in shell cordovan. It does make the Speedmaster very casual but I like the look of it better than on the bracelet.
2. There's no real rhyme or reason, I wear the one I feel like. (I usually feel like wearing the one that's currently running.) Both are casual, but the Explorer can be worn more easily as clothes get closer to formal.
3. I wear the Tank more than I thought I would. Certainly, when I first bought it, I only wore it for formal occasions, but I got over that and realized it can be worn casually too, though not tee-shirt-and-jeans casual.

AP Royal Oak:

VC Overseas:

>why do you think VC brought back 222?

I think it was to split the range in the same way that AP has the Royal Oak and the Offshore. People still have a taste for the slim, understated sports watches like the original Royal Oak, in addition to the large flashy pieces like the Offshore.

Resurrecting the 222 would allow them to have a subtle piece and let the Overseas be the larger, gaudier 90s piece it's always been.

Imagine the 222 as slim, simple, in steel and precious metals, few, if any complications; alongside the Overseas which can now be big, made of ceramic, carbon fiber and gold with a rubber strap and a double tourbillon.

Of course. The guy who started the last 50 of them didn't go anywhere. It's no different than Whoretadello insisting we talk about his Grand Seiko.

Except in the other direction: the Offshore to the bigger side and the 222 towards the smaller side.

That's the point, all of these watches are pretty and ugly at the same time.
By the way, what do you think of 222?

Yes, you're right. I wasn't clear.

222: simple and classic
Overseas: fun and flashy

I get why people like them but that whole Genta aesthetic has been overdone to me. Every brand from shit tier to top tier have its own integrated bracelet sports watch now. I kinda like it when Moser does it, because they have this unique organic approach to their design, but overall I find this trend tiresome and I'm happy it's dying.
The turning point for me was that Christopher Ward / Czapek episode. The two watches were designed by the same dude and were released around the same time. One is under 2k, the other is above 20k. They're pretty much the same. Granted the finishing of the Czapek is miles ahead, but c'mon... When cheap brands are starting to copy the designs of luxury brands you know it's time to do something else.
>By the way, what do you think of 222?
I don't care for it. It's fine I guess but if I had that kind of money there's a million watches I would buy before this one.

What is a good diver watch for wristlets? Seems like the only choices are a used skx, an old omega 36mm, Christopher ward 36, Oris diver 200, or some other microbrand shit 36 to 38mm

6.25 inch wristlet

Anons in the past have complained that it looks like a dive watch without the bezel. Which it is. I always thought dive bezels looked fucking retarded.

Yeah, but it's obvious how they made these. Look at the SRPD55 for comparison. I just like how the versions without bezels look more.

Because I'm drunk. Buy your grails...don't have a 'watch journey'. Just save up and buy your grails, and you'll be happiest, longest, without wasting money. Buy it for you, and no one else.
