Sparkling bergamot/pink pepper too, sharp green cedar and resins (with patchouli and cashmeran playing a supporting role), intoxicating iso-e with vetiver and white musk to dry it down. GCMS analysis essentially means any frag can be cloned to a scary similarity. There's no point in buying genuine unless it's better performance or you're a r*dditor who cares about le intellectual property or whatever.
It's not even like other aspects of fashion where at least there's a logo to flex on poors. With frags nobody knows or cares that you're wearing $300 vs $30 outside of frag nerds.

You delusional dune buffoon, your hubris rivals that of street shitters. Please give me one Arab clone fragrance that costs up to $60 (I am giving you a generous budget here) that exceeds the quality of a $300 dollar fragrance made by actual professionals and not lab rats jerking off over a GCMS printout. Please don't say CDNIM limited edition or else I'll know to immediately disregard your opinion. Bonus points if you manage to spout of something not related to Aventus.

I'll be honest: Some clones are good. La Yuqawam Homme is nearly as good as Tuscan Leather to the point I see no need to give Tom Ford money for watered down Tuscan Leather. But the insane assertion that $30 dollar frags are better than their inspirations simply isn't based in reality. Maybe drug addled prostitutes that you pick up on street corners can't tell the difference, I assure you normal people can.

>IFRA and EU rules do not apply to the US, so you can ignore them as long as you are happy not to sell in the EU and wherever else all this BS has taken hold. Manuel Cross saw an opportunity. As he says, “entire genres of classic fragrances are being either discontinued or completely reformulated.”
That's bullshit, Rogue was never non-IFRA compliant. It was all just marketing and he removed the mention because they got tested and were solidly IFRA compliant.

When you were a little kid, did you ever have to ride in a packed car with a bunch of elderly family members to go to a wedding or a funeral or something like that? There's a deeply unpleasant sensation you get when people are wearing too much perfume in a confined space. Slack jawed faggots.

Habit Rouge is a mix of the vanillic faux musk of Shalimar, bright lemon, and powdery leather, think glove not biker jacket. Smells fantastic and refined, but if you spray it on and the temp is over 70 you're asking for trouble, it can turn on you pretty easy. It's also the type of fragrance that doesn't really work unless you're dressed pretty well since it's a bit upright. But if you have a sport coat on and the weather is cool, it's rather nice.

Uh...Anon. The absolute last thing you want is Habit Rouge. It's not a fuckbboi projection-monster Invictus style clubbing fragrance by any means, but it is very heavy. It's very classical French perfumery. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but when you talk to people who say they hate cologne/perfume, this is the exact kind of fragrance they're referring to. I don't actually even hate it, it is a very classical sort of scent that has its place, but it's really not the kind of thing I can see being worn casually. To me it's incredibly dressy

I don’t think that they are *that* hard to pull off, but sure, with that kind of perfumery you have to be especially mindful about how much you apply it. Overspraying sucks with everything, but with those classical French perfumery -style fragrances it just doesn’t make it too strong, it turns it from a subtle aura into that geriatric-feeling stank that nobody likes. I don't think it's so much an issue of over spraying, although that's definitely not something you want to do with HR. It's just a fragrance that was extremely popular with people who are now senior citizens and who continue to wear it all the time. In fairness, I did grow up in South Florida and so I have a lot of scent memories attached to flocks of retirees wearing this scent in weather that was perpetually inappropriate, but it's probably the single most popular fragrance among old folks. You would smell it everywhere they congregated with any sort of frequency. I actually remember the first time I sampled it, I was taken aback because it was a smell I knew extremely well without ever having known the name. It's how young people in 2060 will likely react to Sauvage.

Since you guys seem so obsessed with gays and JPG being a gay frag maison, I'll clear some things up. As an actual bottom here's what I wear, and JPG is not on the list.

>Daily: Dylan Blue
I work in an office dominated by traditional, conservative men. I can't wear the frags that I would prefer to daily, so Dylan Blue is a nice compromise. It's a safe blue scent with extremely mild floral notes and a moody base with incense and tonka bean. To add, my team lead is one of those "if they can smell it at all, they will bitch" types of women so I can't wear more noticeable frags in the office.

>Weekend: Santal 33
Edgy, artsy, nose-grabbing, I could keep coming up with buzzwords if I wanted to. I really like frags that give off out-of-the-shower feels, and this does that thanks to its cardamom and florals, but the woody base and green dry down are what make it the perfect Saturday saunter frag. Men seem to take me a little more seriously when I wear this over other frags.

>Club/Bar: Hawas for Him
Honestly this is a shockingly well performing frag. Very synthetic but it does a lot to close the gap between you and other guys. It's one of those "let me have another sniff" frags that make guys want to be on top of you. No reason to waste anything high quality in places where you're probably just gonna get gassed out by people over spraying their own frags.

>Fucking: Lazy Sunday Morning

>As a gay guy, would you ever assume someone's sexual orientation based solely or significantly
Solely? No. Significantly? Yes. And it's not as simple as "oh look, kouros. Get thee to the gloryhole" or anything like that. It's more about whether the scent is something that matches the occasion, outfit and his personality well enough that it's obvious that, not only has he put thought into it, but he also put competent thought into it.

Most straight guys aren't really good at that. Either they'll put no thought into it whatsoever, or they will put a lot of thought into the sort of image they wish to project, but fail at it either slightly or spectacularly. You'll often find straight guys sinking a ridiculous amount of money into they're fragrance choice because they hope it will bump up their attractiveness automatically, but then kind of be lazy about everything else. They'll also pick something that's expensive and popular, but that doesn't suit them at all. When you see a guy in a t-shirt, sandals and cargo shorts wearing Tobacco Vanille at the grocery store, that's a straight guy who googled "most popular fragrances".

I'm looking for citrus and zest fragrances. I like rosemary, artemisia, coriander, and oakmoss and I want to find stuff more stuff with coriander. I really like Drakkar Noir's zest notes but I don't always want the cinnamon, leather, vetiver, lavender, fir, or juniper.

I'm thinking of trying Styletto by O Boticário next.

>Top notes are Bergamot, Amalfi Lemon, Lavender, Rosemary and Mandarin Orange; >Middle notes are Coriander, Wormwood, Tarragon and Geranium;
>Base notes are Oakmoss, Patchouli and Amber.

Can anon recommend any others that are like this ?

Yes, and obviously I disagree completely with >>18085641.
The EdT is built per older construction. The 'old style smell' is many things, but it includes the bouquet of citruses + florals specifically together. Old-school 'colognes' all has this style of bouquet where they tie these two groups of smell together. The old school smell of the EdT includes a lot of floral notes that were popular from the 1950s all the way through the 1980s, but they clearly have that old-school vibe. The EdP does not drop the florals entirely, but lowers the volume. The opening is much more citrus + vanilla forward with the florals coming in after the citruses (~1 hr.) The mid and base notes are very similar, but the timing of the notes is very different.

>> No.18085649

>>18085645
>The EdP does not drop the florals entirely, but lowers the volume. The opening is much more citrus + vanilla forward with the florals coming in after the citruses
correction: the opening is much more vanilla, and after an hour it’s still even more vanilla. after 2 hours it’s still even more vanilla. after 3 hours it’s dried down to nothing but vanilla. any semblance of complexity in habit rouge’s trademark sweetness has been erased by unforgivingly heaped on ethylvanillin, and not in a nice way like shalimar.
>but they clearly have that old-school vibe

lmao no. This is nonsense. To the OP who asked, you're better off getting a sample of the EdT and the EdP. This replyfag is insane. Jean Paul Guerlain made both versions himself. He didn't make the EdT good and the EdP as a vanilla bomb joke. The EdT was made in the old style and the EdP was made in the new style. The EdP is not a vanilla monster, it's a citrus forward citrus-floral with a vanilla base just like the EdT. The only difference is there is less floral in the opening and mid of the EdP.

>> No.18085669

>>18085668
lmao no, this is nonsense. to the OP who asked, don’t bother with the EdP. this replyfag is either anosmic or has no idea how to discern compositions. JPG fucked up when he made the EdP and it was at the tail end of his tenure at guerlain, he was ousted shortly after for a reason. the EdT is a marvelous blending of sweet, powdery notes while the EdP is a grossly unsubtle vanilla amber bomb. it completely neuters the freshness of the citrus opening and the complexity of the orange blossom and carnation elements in lieu of bass boosting the vanilla amber base, which becomes deafening and overwhelming. a mess of a composition.

Perhaps a category called “empyreumatic” should be added to the fragrance wheel (they have it in wine, e.g. Pomerol) to reflect the fact that smoky materials now play lead roles in compositions. Bernard Chant (Cabochard, Aramis) used to put them as a background smell, like a wood fire crackling in a living room. Then when cypriol (nagarmotha) came along, both Duchaufour and Buxton seized the day and smoky became a defining genre of niche fragrance. I find the combination of wintry, dark, and bactericidal suggestions in smoky accords very attractive. This is one of the best, with a beautifully judged balance between tobacco and spice in the background. Excellent.
