There’s really nothing better than DH2020.
Sparkling bergamot/pink pepper too, sharp green cedar and resins (with patchouli and cashmeran playing a supporting role), intoxicating iso-e with vetiver and white musk to dry it down. None of the garbage Sage/apple combo, no ambroxan-amberwood/gonna derivatives, definitely no FUCKING vanilla. Not too sweet, not too dry. Does it get any better?

Alright you fucking degenerates, the other day I went around a department store and got my first ever fragrance.

I smelled about two dozen of these fucking things, sprayed 2 that I liked the most on each wrist and walked around for the rest of the day. For about 2 or 3 hours I kept smelling them and then I ended up picking picrel.

I like it, but don't personally feel an intense love for it. It's restrained and subtle to a fault, a real gentleman's chypre that doesn't want to offend.
I prefer Eau Sauvage, it's more memorable and evocative to me. But Pour Monsieur is still a must-smell, pretty much the reference fresh chypre for men.

I have 2021 sport too and if anything it’s a less fun/more serious option for me, but it’s a huge incense bomb on my skin (and probably lasts 2+ hours longer than DH2020)
Lemon/aldehyde top, incense middle, amber base. Similar structure to 2020 with different notes, not redundant but just doesn’t hit my pleasure centers the same way—2020 just feels so right, so “me”, where sport feels like I’m putting it on to play a part

Vanille Havane must be real vanilla, I trust my nose on this. Every single other vanilla fragrance I've ever tried on (Most Le Male, every god awful Mancera fragrance with vanilla in it, all SWY, Herod, endless ammounts of cheapies from brands like Halloween and Ferragamo) and I mean ALL of them have a sort of 'hollow' feel to them.

Habit Rouge is hard to describe because it's complex, but the overall feel I get is a dusty lemon vanilla candy opening followed by more of a rose soap type drydown. I need to smell it again

When you were a little kid, did you ever have to ride in a packed car with a bunch of elderly family members to go to a wedding or a funeral or something like that? There's a deeply unpleasant sensation you get when people are wearing too much perfume in a confined space. It's very sharp, vaguely lemony but you can't really make out exactly what it's supposed to smell like, and it gives you this feeling you really want to escape from but can't. That's the smell of Habit Rouge.

Habit Rouge is a mix of the vanillic faux musk of Shalimar, bright lemon, and powdery leather, think glove not biker jacket. Smells fantastic and refined, but if you spray it on and the temp is over 70 you're asking for trouble, it can turn on you pretty easy. It's just a fragrance that was extremely popular with people who are now senior citizens and who continue to wear it all the time. Old-school 'colognes' all has this style of bouquet where they tie these two groups of smell together. you made an excellent purchase. Wear it outside in the spring sun, you'll love it eventually. The frag for any sophisticated, SOVLful man. I'm waiting to get a colonia, want to finish at least one frag first, I don't like buying too many frags. Wish they released an EDT colonia. Yes it is good. Nimitir is probably the best modern interpretation of an classic 80s smokey leather chypre. Some offerings are overdone with animalics but they are usually interesting enough to justify sampling.

Perhaps a category called “empyreumatic” should be added to the fragrance wheel (they have it in wine, e.g. Pomerol) to reflect the fact that smoky materials now play lead roles in compositions. Bernard Chant (Cabochard, Aramis) used to put them as a background smell, like a wood fire crackling in a living room. Then when cypriol (nagarmotha) came along, both Duchaufour and Buxton seized the day and smoky became a defining genre of niche fragrance. I find the combination of wintry, dark, and bactericidal suggestions in smoky accords very attractive. This is one of the best, with a beautifully judged balance between tobacco and spice in the background. Excellent.
