I tried Santal Royal, it was good. Got a chance to try out Tobacco Honey as well which I hadn't realized was released outside the US now. Also found Fumerie Turque by Serge Lutens which was a comfortable departure from my usual frags

Agree but I love that apple pie smell. I've got Lost Cherry too as you could tell, so I don't mind the silly. Lost Cherry doesn't last at all though, so I only put it on when I have someone coming over very soon. I've gotten a lot of compliments with Angel's Share with girls I'm with. Not as much as Exquisite Embroidery which I was approached on the street about 3 times and complimented on, the projection is fantastic on it

Honestly not too fond of the Acqua Di Parma and their usual lineup is never near what I like, but it smells good after a swim. I got the Lune Feline as a replacement vanilla

TF for sure yeah, I've gone off them (this is my third bottle). I tried their Electric Cherry and Smokey Cherry variants and they were just generally shit. Nowhere as interesting as Latte di Cherry by New Notes.

I don't mind Killian's lineup. I have the bottle of Apple Brandy as a gift (it was supposed to be Angel's Share lmao)

I'll add Hyrax to the list, the notes look fun, thanks

I'd like you to all join me in a land acknowledgement. You are currently posting in ancestral perfumed fancy lad land, the traditional name of this territory is the perfume general. I think it's important to acknowledge this as most posters won't be aware of this traditional name. Perfume posters are talked about in the past tense, as if their struggle has already been and gone. It is easier to dismiss the wrongdoings visited upon perfumed fancy lads by aventus coomers, masstige slop enjoyers and overly aggressive lower case posters if we historicize their struggles and simply paper over them with hastily arranged thread titles. As an activist, I would like to take this opportunity to commit myself to the struggle against the systems of oppression that have dispossessed perfumed fancy lads of their threads and denied their rights to self-determination, work that is essential to perfumed dandy rights work across the board.

CDN Limited Edition unironically has better performance but it dries into mostly woods and loses its fruity opening a little too quick. Cedrat Boise is another alternative, and it keeps its fruit notes, but lacks pineapple altogether. I wouldn't suggest Aventus to anyone now. When it first released, it was genuinely remarkable. A completely new DNA that felt truly unique and redirected the industry from the Blue EDT dominance of the previous ten years. Then every house on the planet realized that they also had the ability to smash wood, moss, ambroxan, and fruit into a bottle, and that it DIDN'T cost so much to make that they would have to charge a meme price for it. So now you can just buy random arab bottles and get essentially the exact same thing AND it doesn't fizzle out in a few hours like all Creed frags do.

If you want to spend the money though, go for it. Ultimately it's your decision and you should purchase what YOU want. Just realize that owning a bottle of a frag that is well passed its prime doesn't give you clout, even if it is more expensive than the Dior or AdG most people are wearing.

>Cedrat Boise is another alternative, and it keeps its fruit notes, but lacks pineapple altogether
Cedrat Boise is my favorite of the Aventus style fragrances, including Aventus. And honestly, while the pineapple note in the opening of Aventus is my favorite aspect of that fragrance, for me it goes away in like less than ten minutes. People here like to pretend that Aventus smells bad, but that opening blast is really, really fucking good. If it stayed that good throughout the life of the fragrance, I would almost say it's worth the money. But it doesn't. The dry down is fine, but there are much better options.

That being said, while Cedrat Boise never quite reaches the same heights as that first five minutes of Aventus, to my nose it is pretty close And it stays that way for nearly the entire life of the fragrance. It's also probably the best performing fresh fragrance I own. I wear it pretty often and I'm not even halfway through the bottle that I bought in 2021. The cost-value proposition blows Aventus out of the water.

>> No.18082515

Been culling my collection and I have come to realize that when you are buying perfume you should ask yourself 2 questions:
1. Is the perfume redundant? If so, do not buy it unless it is an upgrade for what you have in your current collection. Like you should buy Allure Homme Sport if you have Versace Pour Homme, but not vice-versa.
2. Does the perfume improve or reduce the quality or your collection? If you have high end designer and niche it makes no sense to buy cheapies, even if they are cheap. The bottles will just pile up, and every time you wear one you take away from a time you could have worn something better.

It's starting to change now that The Ghost Perfumer, BlackRock acquisition and continual pointless price hikes have all finally begun to knock Creed off their (unearned) high horse in the eyes of even the fragbros, but for a solid 10 years Aventus was something of a rite of passage for people getting into fragrance. It was mythologized so heavily that even if you knew the basic scent profile wasn't something that interested you, and even if you bought a clone and were relatively happy with it, it was just going to keep gnawing at you until you finally bought a bottle. Honestly, I probably would have saved myself a lot of money if I just bought it in that first six months of collecting so I could just move on with my life and start exploring more unique scents that I actually enjoyed instead of trying to find that one magical grail that would be le ebin best thing ever.

Cedrat Boise manages to maintain its complexity and that's why it's my personal favorite Aventus DNA too. I love CDN and I've been wearing it a lot recently for some reason, but if I was forced to pick it would be Cedrat Boise. To me, a fresh frag is all about how it fades and Mancera has that part down. That being said, longevity and scent progression is Creed's weakest trait by a severe margin so Aventus' struggles are to be expected.

Honestly every popular Aventus DNA is worth buying, from L'Aventure to Aventus itself, what matters is what the person wearing it is looking for. Ultimate cost value? To me, that's CDN. The best all around? Cedrat Boise. Winning arguments on 4chan? Spend half of your McDonald's paycheck on Aventus.

>>18082515
Culling as in reselling? Never really, but I get the reasoning. As in just throwing away? Of course not.
I like having all my bottles lined up. Sure, I own basically ever blue Versace bottle, or like a dozen Aventus DNAs, but it's fun. I like mixing it up. I feel a little different every day, so why not pick a different frag every day? Even if it's essentially the exact same thing as what I wore yesterday.

You're right, now that the bankers are in on it, it's even worse. The Creed family have always been grifters anyway. Can't say they didn't get me once or twice though. If you're gonna put the name of a nu-metal band on your shelf, you're better off get SMW honestly.

This is what I keep hearing as well, but it's got that oud note and I've never cared for Mancera's "oud" scents. Plus, I just don't see how adding oud to Cedrat Boise would improve that particular DNA even if it wasn't Pierre Montale's hyper-synthetic oud. Cedrat Boise is one of the only fragrances from the house that really doesn't need improvement, in my opinion

This bad bitch. I was 11 years old and we were going to a wedding and my mom had me pick out a fragrance to go with my fancy wedding clothes. I picked it because the bottle was red and I thought it looked cool. I picked up a bottle at TJ Maxx for $20 last year to see if it brought back scent memories, and it sure fucking did. Also, it's really gross stuff and gives me an instant headache, but it was nostalgic none the less.

No idea how I didn't die as a kid though. I used to use it in lieu of showering in middle school after gym class. I would use like 10 sprays. I should have been expelled.

kek, that's actually kind of shocking. In fairness, it's not the worst thing in the world, but it's got that late 90s/early 00s screechy synthetic thing going on, and if you have any kind of sensitivity to fragrances whatsoever, this is almost certainly going to be unbearable.

But it's also over 20 years old and pretty cheap so I guess that's to be expected. If you were to take this DNA and build the same scent profile around higher quality raw materials, this would probably be pretty decent.

Personally, I disagree. Price does not always equal enjoyment when it comes to fragrances. As long as you buy a cheapie because you really like it and not just because it's cheap, it's a good buy. There are some absolute classics in the cheaper price tiers too, especially if you like older styles.

Yeah I always wonder if some reviewers just prefer/think they prefer a vintage fragrance because it’s gone bad as opposed to it being an old formulation. That’s a reason I’m afraid to buy vintage because I don’t know if I’m actually smelling what the creator intended or if it’ll even be wearable. I guess I should start by buying vintage decants because I’d like to try an old Kouros and some feminine chypres to see if they’re really all they’re cracked up to be. Because some people describe some of them as being 3 dimensional but I feel like they’re just being hyperbolic

The vast majority of people aren't comfortable spending $500 on a bottle of fragrance. So another company comes along and decides to make something similar to sell for much less and the people who can't afford the real thing buy the clone to try and be like the real deal.

I'm convinced that the vast majority of people who hate on Aventus, for reasons aside from the price, smelled one of the knock offs and based their opinions on that. CDNIM and MB Explorer smell like a chemical factory.

Yeah, it’s not even funny how much Aventus has going on when compared to the clones that pick couple of notes of Aventus and then go ham on highlighting them. One can call Creed a shitty company, Aventus overpriced, whatever, but every time I reach for my sample of Aventus, it’s much more of a ride than the clones.

In general, it feels that the fragrance community is full of people who are ready declare any clone a success if it even remotely captures the vibe of the original. And while having a clone that does it for 1/8th of the price is obviously attractive, it’a not even remotely the same as the clone being a perfect clone.

Well, if you're going to say remarkably stupid shit like this, it's probably best you go with your gut and stay out of the discussion. Whether or not it was "shilled" is completely irrelevant. My point is that Aventus has been massively overhyped since goddamn 2010. Is it hyped because of effective "shilling"? Could be. Does that have any effect on the veracity of what I said? Nope. The post I responded to said that Aventus was not hyped until Blackrock owned the company. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen posted in the general, and that is a pretty big achievement.

As we have had an issue with this obvious bad actor for a while now, I think it's important to go out my way to help remind people about how to deal with these guys. First, ignore them. As soon as you realize that they are here to misguide the thread, cause toxic discourse, or just argue for attention, just stop replying. Their goal is engagement, their reason is irrelevant. They just want you to reply. They don't care unreasonable or out of line they need to be, they just want replies. They are not concerned with reason in any way, they're going to do whatever they can to collect replies. So just stop replying. As soon as they believe that we are not a good source for whatever it is they want, they will move on.

Also, I noticed how he's started to fall back on typical fringe debate tactics. Please check out this wikipedia page about his newest strategy and how he will intentionally throw the discussion into the mud the moment he realizes he cannot stand on whatever entry level knowledge he has on these topics.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad-jacketing

He's arguing about one of the most popular frags on the market and its most recognizable clones. Do you think he has ANY idea what he's talking about? Of course not. He has just enough entry-level knowledge to troll you and rope you along to get his rocks off, though. So stop rewarding his poor behavior and let him get bored.

It really depends on what you're asking for the clone to do. Aventus is a much better fragrance overall and has something that none of the clones can really capture perfectly, but it's also ridiculously overpriced for what it is. For the vast majority of people, I think CDNI or Explorer will be just fine. If you're particularly autistic or just want it for the sake of having it in the collection, then go ahead and buy the Creed. But most people who consider Aventus are doing so because they heard it was some kind of semi-mystical compliment getter and crowd pleaser, and if that's what you're looking for there are better options out there for cheaper. Sauvage and Acqua di Gio (and pretty much all of the flankers from each) will garner the same amount of compliments as Aventus if that's all you're looking for out of a fragrance.

I agree that Club de Nuit or Explorer are better purchases for the average Joe, no denying that. Club de Nuit can get a bit harsh, but at least I find Explorer pretty damn solid for its price as a general use fragrance, although again, it’s not Aventus.

Also, one more thing that could explain strange comparisons came to mind. Because if you spray Aventus and Explorer on strips, after the initial opening they dry down to pretty similar citrusy state, but the drydown is completely different on skin. Explorer dries past the state that strip time-capsules pretty fast and loses most of its fruitiness, while Aventus keeps its fruitiness and opens up on skin a way that it doesn’t do on paper strip with the birch, moss and musk in its base.

Testing strip comparisons are pretty dubious any time you want to do a serious, analytical comparison, because they tend to ”freeze” the scent progression that might be unrealistically flattering or harsh to some fragrances, but Explorer vs Aventus setup in particular is very misleading there.

Yeah, I generally recommend Explorer to people over CDNI. I would say CDNI is "closer" to Aventus in the sense that it is a direct clone aiming for the exact same note breakdown, and it also lasts a bit longer than Explorer, but it's a lot more harsh, especially in the opening. It gets closest to Aventus in the drydown, and that's generally where Aventus and Explorer are most different than one another.

On my skin, Aventus and Explorer smell very similar in the mid, but the opening and drydown are noticeably different. The opening of Aventus is my favorite part of that scent, and it's extremely juicy and a bit sweet, but also has a tartness from the citruses. Explorer has a similar tartness, but it's very dry and almost a bit salty like the opening of Sauvage. In the drydown I get almost nothing but a vaguely leathery salty accord. It's pleasant enough, but it's mostly just a salty ambroxan.

In the drydown of Aventus I get a much smoother woodsy smell with a very nice sweetness from the vanilla and a very light smokiness from the birch. It's almost like a campfire that went out a few hours ago and left behind a very light and pleasant smoky smell.

But I do think for the average person that just wants to smell clean and fresh, Explorer is probably a better option than CDNI. It's not nearly as complex, but it's also not hyper-synthetic and potentially off-putting the way CDNI can be.

It's definitely a huge upgrade from than the EDT and smells much closer to Aventus than Explorer, but in terms of what the average consumer who wears Light Blue and CK One is going to prefer, I feel way more comfortable recommending Explorer. Explorer is boring and much less complex, but that's kind of what most normies are into. The thing about the LE parfum is that it's VERY strong. Much stronger than Aventus itself. If you wear more than two sprays, people will die. It's overwhelming if you're not really used to strong fragrances.

If I were blackrock I'd drop all pretenses of Creed being an exclusive luxury brand and go the masstige route (by which I mean downward brand extension, and not "mass appealing but also expensive" like this board is utterly convinced it means), reformulate everything using cheaper but more stable synthetics with a few token naturals thrown in so it smells somewhat expensive, slash the price of everything by 50% and start selling it at Sephora. The "passed down from father to son since blah blah we was kangz times" ship has sailed and everyone knows it was a lie. The company can still be profitable, but it's never going to last in its current state. The ultra-premium pricing can work when you trick people into believing you're something more than you really are, but the market sees through that now.

They absolutely could. One of the things that came out in The Ghost Perfumer is that Olivier would take Bourdon's formulations and swap every ingredient out for the most expensive version of said ingredient he could find. It is a crude and utterly ridiculous method of going about perfumery, but it is what it is. This is why Creed fragrances are notoriously weak while Creed clones tend to lack that problem.

It's a bit more complicated than that. You are 100% correct that most people haven't read the book and never will, but a huge part of Aventus's success over the last 14 years has come from how hyped it was in fragcom. If you were someone just getting into fragrance in the 2010s, Aventus was the first niche/luxury scent you heard about, largely because for a good 10 years straight, it was at the top of every fragbro youtuber's list. It was at the top of Fragrantica for years, it was the best selling fragrance at discounters for years. Every time a clone would come out, there were 20 million blogs and videos dissecting it and talking about how everybody loved Aventus. Now the credibility of these """""""tastemakers""""""" is not something anyone SHOULD be taking seriously, but the fact is a lot of people, particularly new fragrance enthusiasts who don't yet know better, do. And those influencers have all read the book and are slowly but surely losing their enthusiasm for the brand.

It's not something that is going to happen overnight, but when all those reviewers stop talking about Aventus, eventually so will a significant portion of the overall market. You can already see the change. I don't even know where Aventus is on Fragrantica at this point, but last time I looked it was shockingly far down the list compared to where it was four years ago.

There are entire shops all along 8th Avenue in the Garment District in NYC that sell nothing but clones. There's like five or six I've been to. Some of them sell the sort of cheap/old garbage you always see at Marshall's and TJ Maxx, but mostly it's all shit like Armaf and al Haramain. And you never see anybody inside them, either. Considering Hell's Kitchen is some of the most expensive real estate on Earth and these shops are not small, I assume it's all some kind of human trafficking front. >Just because something is described as Beast Mode I would not assume that it has good longevity.
I've always heard it used to describe a fragrance that checks all the bases. Over the top longevity, projection and sillage. Occasionally you'll hear people talk about a particular fragrance having "beastmode x" but not y and z, like maybe something has beastmode projection but fizzles out after an hour or two, but if someone just says something is "beastmode", I would take it to mean all three.

Good news bad news. Fiero is good, it's like an amped up version on modern Eau Sauvage. Same with Roja Reckless. Bad news is you can still get vintage Eau Sauvage with the original formula on eBay for less than the other two and it smells a little better IMHO. I'm glad Fiero and Reckless are being made so that when the old bottles of Eau Sauvage run out I'll be fine wearing them instead, but there's a reason they're copying Eau Sauvage. It just works.

If you want to try something with a similar vibe that's still unique, pick up Azemour Les Oranges by Parfums D'Empire. Basically a combo of Eau Sauvage with the orange from Hermes D'orange Vert Concentree, really great in the summer.
