I don't like most watches at least the modern ones I mean. Rolex lost its appeal to me to, I was told throughout my 20s "Rolex is rare".

Every time someone in these threads shits on Rolex while wearing a Seiko or an Omega I chuckle a little bit. The whole watch market is shaped around Rolex. They literally defined the codes for modern sports watches.

How is grand seiko last? You seem to hate the brand for no apparent reason their aesthetics are the best out of all those options. Movement engineering aside, their finishing is the best next to the likes of Rolex and Omega.

Also about the Breitling > Tudor thing, I would love to buy a breitling instead of a tudor but god fucking damn is their collection filled with ugly overpriced shit. Show me one good chronograph/dive watch from them equivalent to Tudor that looks good and is value for money. There's none.

Also what's the word on Longines, are they shit or not shit? Compared to the likes of Seiko, Nomos, Casio around that price range.

I dislike GS for their aesthetics. I haven't seen one yet that isn't bloated, heavy, thick and overall inelegant. The angular shapes of the cases are reminiscent of the worst era for watch design (80s and 90s), and just don't work with the textured dials.
They're the opposite of "fine watches".

It's the best integrated bracelet sports watch. By "best" I mean the sexiest, most iconic, most desirable and most culturally relevant one. It's one of those watches that had an actual impact on the whole watch industry and is immediately recognizable. AP was also smart enough to barely change the design in 50 years.
There's only a handful of those watches:

It's a time only watch ffs, there was no reasons to make it this large. The case is also flat as a board, there's no way this looks good on a non-comically huge wrist. As >>18070092 pointed out the date window position is a clear indication the movement is swimming in that oversized case.

>Notice that no (Grand) Seiko will ever make it to the list.
Well duh, Seiko discontinues its models all the time, of course they're not going to have anything unchanged in decades. None of their watches stay in continuous producion that long.
Also, the Tank changed significantly during its production span. The proportions, case surfaces let alone the movements in the original are quite different from the modern iterations. The only constant is "a rectangle with roman numerals" and even that is based on the postwar versions that were no longer square-ish but longer.

Keep your gay porn to yourself please, you're trying to prove to people on an imageboard that you aren't a virgin. The fact that you even bothered with my insult at all, proves that you're a virgin.

I feel sorry for you. I don't even want to hurt you anymore. Can you stop replying? I don't kick people on the ground. I mean this is psychology 101, you're genuinely touched by my remark about your late life virginity. This was about my watch, now you're defending your sex life. Fuck.

The 899 was designed in the early 2000s.

I'm waiting for "the call" but since I put my name in the hat I've started having trouble with my car and my house so all of my money and attention has to go into resolving those issues for now. If I am called before those issues are at least mostly buttoned up I'm going to have to make myself look like an asshole and tell them I have to pass for the time being, not so much because I'd be broke but because it would feel way too irresponsible to fuck around with toys like that when I'm worried about something much more serious and the possibility of some other issue popping up shortly after. It's annoying and fucked up but I guess that's life? Hopefully I have 50 or 70 more years to break into the real luxury watch space.

A simple date wheel isn't considered a complication and hasn't for a while because it's been industry standard in off-the-shelf movements for 30 years now.
On paper, any function other than minute and hour is considered a complication. That does include central seconds, that used to be considered a complication in the time of pocket watches. Now it's seen as a basic function. Same with date wheels today. It's technically a complication but it is so widespread that no one will present a time + date watch as a complicated watch.

Can someone please describe the process of buying a Rolex from their shop (retail price and all)? I'm an undergrad student and I just heard about this waiting list shit while it's good for me, I wanna know more.

My dream watch is the Rolex Daytona Platinum ref. 126506. I hear that the retail price is somewhere around the $12k-$20k range and honestly I can (hopefully) earn that much amount of money by the time I'm done with my Masters. However I'm not paying a fucking Porsche amount of money for this watch because of these reseller niggerfaggots. They need to kill themselves in the most horrific, painful, and unfathomable way imaginable.

you go to a dealer, you tell them you'd like to buy a certain watch, they say of course but there's a waiting list and ask you whether you've already bought something from them, you tell them no, they very courteously take some of your info and you don't hear from them again
the way you get called, regardless of whether you've left your number and e-mail address, is you give the dealer reason to believe you'll buy the watch as soon as they call (having a rich purchase history) and/or you're friends with them (by chance)
>I'm an undergrad student

a good quality replica will be difficult to tell apart from a genuine watch even if you have both of them on hand
if you're going to spend the money to buy multiple watches from other brands that you don't very much like you might as well pay for a second hand or grey market piece
a purchase history of $15k is going to be better than nothing obviously, but it's unlikely to be very useful to get a watch as sought after as an $80k Daytona

Well platinum is a lot harder to work on than steel or gold. That and the price of the metal is usually what justifies the prices.
Usually. Because platinum has not been holding its value at all and has dropped recently, especially compared to gold which is steady as ever.
The prices for precious metal watches is never ever proportional to the extra cost of materials anyway. It's just a great way to massively hike up prices for cases that are easier to build and finish i the case of gold.
