I just recently decided I would start wearing watches again. I bought this Skagen which I like because of the deep blue faceplate, but also because of the leather strap and it is not too extravagant. It was on a sale so wound up being only $40. However I also want a watch that has a metallic band, that I can use as a daily driver so to speak. Do you guys have any recommendations for brands to look at? I dont' want to spend much money. I'm willing to spend more than $40, but hopefully I can find one for $80 or under. I'd be willing to go over that amount if there is a really fantastic watch that is on a good deal. Any advice bros?

I'm not sure about the different looks. I would like silverish metallic band, I don't really like the look of the gold color ones. I've seen some ones called G-Shock that look overly involved and flashy for my tastes. I also wouldn't mind if the face is a bit bigger than the Skgaen I bought which I believe measures at 37 mm.

Also I'm going to try and take in the third one in the pic which I used to wear, to see if a watch repair guy and fix it up and put a new leather band on it. I use the T daydate as my work watch and it's excellent. My only complaints are that it takes from 12am-3am for the day to fully change(I happen to work nights, most people wouldn't be bothered) and the case shape makes it harder to find aftermarket fitted end bracelets and straps that fit(the reason the optional bracelet has hollow endlinks.) I started wearing it on natos but I've been using FKM straps lately, currently it's one of those curved(not quite fitted) rubber straps from amazon.

That's an exaggeration. I think it looks fine on a man of average height with a slender build and well-fitting clothes. Small watches can work in the right context.

These are good suggestions. They're bigger and chunkier without being larpy. A diver or a G-Shock Mudman, for example, is big and masculine but clearly inauthentic for most men.

It's a very comfortable watch, but I'd get one from the Master of G series, or some MT-G or MR-G if I can choose. Even with the cheapest master of G, the Mudman G9000, you will notice a big difference in overall quality over the GA-2100.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice and comfortable watch, just not the best G-shock.

There are a lot of affordable watches with NH35 etc that match the quality of other watches costing a lot more. You can find a lot of stylish options this way. micro brands aren't constrained by a brands styling ethos.

It's all relative. A watch costing $750 or more doesn't necessarily make it higher quality or better than a watch costing $200 and vice versa. A rolex, omega or grand seiko etc.. are worth it for various reasons but so are affordable watches. I'm careful not to call them cheap watches becusse they aren't cheap. They're well made and offer all the same specs and often more than their big brand name counterparts.

On one hand yeah, because Patek is expensive, on the other, Patek is not recognizable on the wrist (besides being ugly). Aside from the Nautilus and Aquanaut, which are both too rare to be noticed by normies, Patek has zero flex outside watch collector circles. Unlike Rolex (everyone recognizes a Rolex, especially a solid gold Sub), and unlike RM, and even unlike RO at this point. Then you have quiet luxury, like the Overseas, which looks striking but isn't as overbought so most people suspect it's expensive, but won't immediately know.

But Pateks look fairly cheap most of the time. I just don't get this brand. I don't get it. Royal Oaks look fucking expensive. Pateks could be a mall watch most of the time.

I mean does this look like a million bucks? No it doesn't. And I bet you no woman even in Manhattan who's under 30 would recognize this watch. Probably not under 40 either.

Sure, it's a nice, decent, quiet piece. Nothing wrong with that. They have made some beautiful dress watches. But dress watches I don't need or want. Probably not an age thing either. Dress watches just have no purpose nowadays. Good sports watches can be as thin as dress watches or just about there, and they offer many more advantages, like robustness and so on. It used to be dress watch because it's more formal, but we live in the Apple watch world now where every douche has a huge LCD on his wrist like it's Back to the Future or whatever. Even a dinner plate IWC pilots watch is a dress watch today.
