I will admit I got a (enjoyable) grape note, but it was only in the heart. The top is a kind of warm mossy green scent, and desu I don’t remember the dry down off the top of my head, but I distinctly remember the grape only being in the heart.

Wear it a few more times and see if it evolves differently for you.

>>18051200
“Bang for your buck” can be a little subjective depending on how much buck you’ve got to offer.
There are plenty more out there far cheaper, but based on your description and if you can afford it Terre d’Hermes EdT is my usual suggestion. Evolves well, relatively cheap as far as fragrances are concerned, mostly inoffensive (I’ve heard a (very very) few complaints about the vetiver, but I think it’s BS). All around good frag.

>>18051319
I’ve seen that and wondered myself. I think it’s marketing bullshit. Not sure if you’ll find the same, but if you follow the links you’ll find they don’t actually have any of it. A way to get you on their site and shopping around.

Even if they do have it, I wouldn’t trust it as legit. Probably purchased from some third world country counterfeiter in semi-bulk.

Yeah Sartorial is definitely lighter for the most part. As for the "steam" aspect is actually more of a mix between metallic and ozonic. What Penhaligon's was going for was the tailor equivalent of a new car smell for bespoke (custom tailored) suits. And honestly it works. Like its both a good scent and versatile enough that ive spritzed it on the suits of some of my office buddies when we're going to functions to get rid of the musty scent and gotten so many compliments. Yes its acceptable if its applied in the right amount. One thing you have to remember for the office its less about the scent itself and more being conscious of the sillage potency and perfume duration.

Like you want to avoid dousing yourself in the frag and reeking of the scent like a Puerto Rican who never washes his ass, so the best thing to do is to know how strong your frag is. Generally speaking the more oudy spicy frags are more suited for winter/fall and night time. With Oud Malaki i usually do one spritz on the neck and one on the wrist and rub them together even though the heat from rubbing removes a bit of the top notes. Its also for this reason if youre into that kind of spicy/woody I can recommend checking our Penhaligons. Yes some of the guys here will say they're an old man/lady company but what i like about them is that their frags have this signature barbershop soapy/powdery/clean quality to them, and they have this British sense of restraint with their sillage. Rather expensive though so highly reccommended to get their stuff either on ebay or on sale.

The other important thing for if youre starting out is to try and follow the rule of 3. You want 1 everyday frag, 1 frag for when youre going out, and one thats inbetween the two all while making sure theyre different seasons.

Like Oud Malaki is more my fall/winter frag and for spring i usually do Penhaligon's Endymion which is more floral and lavender, but I was also given a 30mL of juniper sling as a gift which regretfully has very poor sillage under this new blend.

Sory if i wrote too much

IIRC they should be having a spring sale sometime in April or May so you have to watch them like a hawk.

I dont think they do sartorial samples anymore unless you go to a store that sells the brand so outside of London/New York City GFL. They do sell samples of their on their website and right now it looks like their pushing the Al-Ula one they just launched. Quick look at Ebay shows a few sales for sartorial but its still expensive at $160 for a 100mL

My rule of thumb is i always get a sample first if possible.Especially if its a new frag you can usually get samples dirt cheap relatively speaking. Now if its a discontinued? Thats a tough one.

Learned the hard way with a discontinued Xerjoff years ago. Yeah you may spend more overall just getting a 2mL or 5mL scent but it also saves you a hole in your wallet in the long run.

few things going on: 1) what volumes are those? 2) look up "grey market". Can I get a recommendation based on my past favourites? My past every day wears/favs include Sauvage Parfum Edition, Y EDP, Napoleon EDP (Aventus clone by Zoha Aroma), Light Blue Intense.

My taste is pretty confined to the notes found in these fragrances, just wanted to know what you guys figured would be a decent blind buy. I was looking at buying the classic Eau Sauvage as it has many of the same notes of my favourite colognes but I'm not entirely sold.

Sampling is always worth it. It takes only one expensive misfire to destroy all the ”savings” you make by skipping supposedly-expensive samples, and more importantly, when there’s 2 or more fragrances that are really close to each other, samples are the perfect way to kill off any ”but what if X was better after all” doubting.

depends, Flankers take different directions with classic frags but alot depends on the tastes of an era.

Like a good example of how it goes wrong can be seen with Penhaligon's doing Endymion vs Endymion Concentre. The problem with the original is that while light and dreamy has horrible longetivity so they tried to make the Concentre which is an eau de parfum. Unfortunately by going to parfum from cologne strength is that it killed all the light and dreamy floral notes and upped the more harsh incense and woody notes. But it did up the longetivity.

Personally i think they shouldve done the concentre as more of a toilette on the teens end of concentration rather than a parfum.

Finished my full sample set of Pineward yesterday and *damn*. It’s so much better than I originally gave it credit for.

Going to end up going through and retesting most of them with more targeted comparisons to pick some favorites.

Been doing this over the course of probably a month now, but I think my favorite was Sturbridge.
Also, while the skin stain is real for *some* of the frags, it’s only… maybe 1/4th of his frags that do it at all, doesn’t just completely invalidate his stuff.

Worth checking out if you’re interested in some unusual (and good) scents.

I didn’t spray -any- on clothes. If you sprayed them on a white shirt, most of them likely would (at least until washed). Darker shirts it’s hard to say, not sure if it would blend or look like an oil stain.

But on skin, most are just fine, and even the ones that do stain skin a little, could be rubbed in (a sin, I know) to the skin to deal with the coloration.

A lot of his frags are a light yellowish color, so they blend with skin, it’s the dark green ones that really show, and again, even then only some.

Then a couple minutes later, I smelled an old bottle of Polo Blue I have. The Polo Blue smelled noticeably different than I remembered it smelling. And I had been smelling it semi-regularly over the past couple weeks as I was mulling getting BDC. Polo Blue now smells like it has sweetness in it for me where I didn't smell any before. I don't really have a well trained sense of scent to give a better description but it was definitely sweet. Anyone else an experience like this? Then don't become autistic about it. Just go to a store that has a bunch of scents, Smell them all and pick one you like. Don't worry about other people's reviews. Aside from very small chance occurrences with very small people every fragrance you can find at Sephora or Ulta or whatever, will smell good to just about everyone. Not necessarily amazing, or super-sexy, or whatever other superlatives reviewers attach to it, but good at least. What matters more is if you like the fragrance. A lot of fragrance is part ritual part human psychology. Going through the ritual of finding a nice fragrance that cost more than a few bucks, and then being able to apply it with whatever method of application you chose, will reorient your mind to make you feel like you are now more sexy, charming, confident, fashionable etc. Feeling that way helps you act that way.

Worst hobby I have taken up.
I used to read 2 books per week, now I spend most of my free time on frag reviews, samples and hunting down good deals on full bottles. The people you come into contact with are mostly toxic schizos to boot. I should have become an alcoholic or heroin addict instead.

Not going to lie, some image of her agreeing to be shit on by some rich Arab Oil Sultan for $1,000,000 popped into my head like a week ago and now I can't see her without thinking about that. I have no evidence to suggest this happened. And given her personality I doubt she would ever agree to something like that. But it still affects me. I also wish she was a little less lewd. Her demeanor when she does woman on the street interviews is good, but I don't appreciate her talk about making sure balls are comfortable.

I will also say I tend to conjoin the scent of cinnamon and clove (apparently, based on listed notes), but these may be worth looking into.

It's my favorite fragrance right now but it's a bit unusual smelling compared to other Boss fragrances. Might be a bit loud for an office, it's quite strong (as something labeled an elixir should be). Does remind me of incense, feel very spiritual when I put it on.

I have all three (well, got my gf the TF years ago, I think previous formulation, lasts forever). I'd say they're very vaguely related, more conceptually than actually, for my nose. All lean sweet & heavier, and I like all three, but different. And EbD doesn't have much depth, doesn't exactly develop on the skin - still great tho. For me EdB is a cold season frag, Lord George is an evening frag & so is TF.
