/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - EURO EXCLUSIVE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

I don't get the hate towards Grant Stone and made in China on these threads. I bought 3 pairs of their boots during the sale last year (diesel, brass and cap toe - all in different leathers) and they're all holding up really well and the quality is fantastic.

The break in was virtually non-existent for the boots outside of some minor heel sleep with the diesel and they're all pretty damn comfy.

Putting aside for the moment that the latest marbled shell is absolute filth and supremely reddit-tier, they seem like a solid brand.

can anyone recommend similar brands for people with 3e width flippers? pls no PNW tranny heel or shelves large enough to sit on.

I think if they sold them for cheap people would assume they really are just shitty Chinese boots. It would serve to diminish the brand. The higher price point reinforces the idea that the buyer is paying for a higher quality product than $200 boots. It's like if you put two pairs of the same boots side by side and told someone that one costs $200 and the other is $500, most people will believe that they can perceive a difference in quality.

I bought a pair of second hand Solovair Southerners for a fair price, and was shocked to find out that one boot has 11 eyelets and the other has 10. Is their quality control really that bad where they forget to put another eyelet on a boot? I'm glad I got them for cheap because I'd be livid if I spent $200 on these.

a touch lighter than what most people imagine a typical navy suit to be, so i'd pass if that's what you're looking for
the checkered texture makes it a bit too gramps for someone younger in a slim fit
rather conservative and unassuming, good if you need casual suit for work, not something that you'd dress up in for an occasion, wouldn't ever pass as formal
would pair really nicely with mid brown shoes

I have a normal to a high level of arch in both feet. That last with more arch support is part of what's attracting me to White's and specifically the Cruisers. On paper the 55 last sounds very comfortable for me.

Loving my new boots from Mexico that I ordered online. The last is wide and comfortable, don't feel like wearing anything else right now :)

Left is snake belly and right is caiman back. One thing I did not like is that they put some kind of lacquer on top for a glossy finish on the snakeskins, I put some renovatour on them to soften up the scales and made a huge difference, they are now soft to the touch instead of dry and hard

I have a pair of teju boots arriving later this week but I suspect they are going to be too big and I have to pay for customs only to send them back

Made in USA Supersoles are great. I have a pair of 608 that’s lasted a decade of use. I’m about to get a pair of 953 through my job, and I realized they are just Harvesters but with a molded sole. Pic related, kinda soulless leather but I’m sure it will pick up character.

You can get them resoled through the stores, but they’re pricy to do. Worth it if you baby the uppers like me.

I owned Allen Edmonds oxfords and I also own Carmina oxfords and TLB dress shoes. Both of them are a step above Allen Edmonds in every way but I think TLB is even better for dress shoes specifically.

I mean you can spend a lot more to get like Edward Greens and Gaziano & Girlings and Antonio Mecciarellos but these are solidly into 4-digit territory.

Skoak runs monthly GMTOs on Enzo Bonafe shoes, there's always an oxford in the rotation. Last month's oxford was cool, this month it's very red.
