usually nizoral for some time. i think doctorly guys on yt recommended to pair it with salicylic acid shampoo to help penetration of ketoconazole. its probably drying af tho so make sure to check any moisturizing tips under >>18017820
if that does not work after a few months you should seek further help and/or prescription methods probably

yes

whatever spf50 cheap body sunscreen there is (though i dont have many skin issues so cant recommend this for everyone)
>>18018195
nope, look for oil free ones
>>18018221
topically - retinoids and heard good things about copper peptides. there are procedures out there that can help too
>>18018285
be sure to use the strongest retinoid you can afford without prescription beforehand (usually retinal or adapalene in certain countries). then just go to derm and talk about it. or just order tret from some online indian pharmacies
>>18018741
>unique to chocolate milk
try different brand. in case the results are the same, look for common ingredients. idk maybe its preservatives. i have the same issue but with butter while other dairy is fine.
>>18018985
how many times a day do you wash your face with these. maybe you are stripping your natural oils too much.
sweat could be a major factor. its worth to splash some water alone on your face every now and then if you feel sweaty. same rule is often suggested after workout.
also post routine

>prevent aging and reduce existing wrinkles
>Benzoyl peroxide
this is for acne

first and foremost you should review which of these products actually work for you. does your eye cream work? many eye creams are meme irritants
i would
am
- wash with water
- bha every two days or daily
- vitamin c serum if you are planning an antioxidant
- oil free moisturizer
- Neutrogena Ultrasheer Spf 55
pm
- Cetaphil daily facial cleanser
- retinoid 5 times a week (start slower in the beginning) replaced by AHA exfoliator twice a week (these 2 cant be used together)
- moisturizer (either oil free or kiehls depending on how dry/oily you are)

you could also make a full reset; stop using anything (keep spf) and see how your skin feels like after two weeks. reassess your needs and start over with oil free moisturizer, spf and a retinoid. (everyone benefits from these 3).

>which one's should I only use when I need to look my best for a day or two?
hyaluronic acid
> I find it hard to believe that toner and moisturizer have long term effects
depends on a toner. for moisturizers:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/352198837_Long-term_effects_of_two_24-hour_moisturizing_products_on_skin_barrier_structure_and_function_A_biometric_and_molecular_study
but the main idea is that you use moisturizer to offset drying effects of other products like exfoliators and retinoids
>I already have oily skin so I'm leaning towards ditching moisturizer.
use oil free moisturizer instead. something with niacinamide preferably. also oily skin does not always mean hydrated. our skin often overproduces oils due to dryness in order to prevent trans epidermal water loss. could be many other reasons too though like over moisturizing
>>18019121

27yo, I use the blemish control cleanser, am/pm face moisturiser, resurfacing retinol serum, blemish control gel. I wash my face twice a day, use retinol daily at night and the blemish control gel (aha+bha) every 3-4 days at night. My goal is to have normal face skin, I get a lot of blackheads/bumps. Also yes I do hot/lukewarm showers and I also have oily hairs and flaky scalp but this is because I have some kind of dermatitis. I don't think I'm overcleansing, my face skin is not dry just the blackheads won't go away, I guess it needs a long time

Alright, I went deep in the archives and came out with this.

AM:
1. Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
2. Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum
3a. Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (days indoor)
3b. Dermalogica AGE Smart Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 (days outdoor)

PM:
1. Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
2. Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon

Should I sub the sleep cocoon for Paula's Choice CLEAR Oil-Free Moisturizer? It has Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Hyaluronic Acid, and Ceramides.

Others also mentioned The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and said it was good.

I'm not looking to overdo it, just want a standard routine, my skin is alright as it is I just don't want to look old if it can be avoided. Any help would be appreciated.

i see. if something does not work i usually experiment until i get results. i could only recommend washing your face with water in the morning. my hair is oily too, but changed shampoo some time ago and its much better now (this can be a factor too). maybe split your aha and bha and use bha daily. if you are not looking for changing anything desu its still a fine routine

yes. it is beneficial for all skin types to use moisturizer. i use a heavier one in pm and lighter one in am (especially if im going out). maybe look for some heavier ones, i have cosrx rice mask on my to do list. lipikar baume ap+m apparently is a holy grail for many. any moisturizer that contains oils will be slighty heavier. you could also slug with petrolatum at the end of your pm routine

I dislike my moisturiser; expensive for small amount and I also bought it perfumed accidentally, ergo it stings and my suncream; shiny and if I can get more for the price I would like to.

some of the cosmetics are used to offset our lifestyle or environmental factors we live in. if you have to wash hands very often at work then it is worth investing in a hand cream and there is nothing wrong about it. making tiktok videos at home does not necessarily expose you to dangerous environmental factors some people experience at work or in certain areas of world. water alone will not kill bacteria for example

You gotta use a cleansing oil that has some surfactants mixed into it so it will foam up and wash off. You can rub some squaline on your face and then use a cleanser afterwards but its gonna stay on your face and be greasy or you will have to cleanse like 3x to get it all off. I tried to do that with clarified coconut oil and it just made a mess.
Just buy some kose softymo speedy cleanser on Amazon for $10 and double cleans with that. Apply to a dry face with dry hands, rub for a while then rinse off with water. Then folow with your cleanser.
You can find dhc deep cleansing oil in target and some other stores but i think its overpriced. Id you want to get something fancy try Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil, the version with PHA.

Two questions:
1. Does anyone know if the Cetaphil moisturizer has changed formulae recently? I bought a big bottle of it years ago, used it daily, and never had an issue. I always just used a small amount on my face, diluted with some water on my skin. But then I ran out, so I bought a new bottle and now I'm having problems... like pimples and redness/inflammation.
2. Even after the pimples go away, my skin stays discolored for a long time. Is there a way I can get it to "turn over" faster? I.e., shed outer layers and regrow faster? Do I need to do some kind of exfoliation? If so, what's the cheapest/easiest way to do that?

I know they reformulated their cleanser recently, they might have done so with their moisturizer too. If its causing problems stop using it.
Consider cerave daily moisturizing lotion or pm facial moisturizer instead.

Try some 10% azelaic acid, its stings for like 20 minutes the furst few times you put it on but after that its fine, it will help with the pimples, increasing turnover and reducing the blemishes, use like a pea sized amount or a tad more then that for your whole face, put it on before your moisturizer

Fennel oil on toothpaste, fluconazole and/or nyastatin cream, though the cream will darken the skin around the lips for a few months afterwards. Eventually it fades back to normal and now you don't have peeling lips. Mine used to be awful. They were constantly peeling and I would get small cuts in the corners sometimes.

To give fair warning though, I got a stomach bug this week and the peeling has come back. If it flares up again I just hit it with some hyaluronic acid and it is fine again. I am likely just dehydrated this time. If it's a chronic issue not easily solved this may be the problem as it is fairly common.

Is there anything one can do to reduce the size of a final acne scar once you fucked up but it's still not fully settled yet? I'd say it's 80% healed by now as it's still a bit red.
A few months ago I got into an argument with my boss over email, and I got so pissed off I went to the bathroom and absolutely rekt some cystic acne I had, knew right away it was gonna leave a scar.
It's actually healed surprisingly well, you can see the pore as it was before but around it is a very shallow but wide pit which is what I hope I can still reduce a bit.
Already taking azelaic acid and adapalene and I hope I can avoid treatments like TCA Cross and C02 laser because they'd be a pretty excessive investment considering how expensive they are and how I don't have that many other scars

Collagen supplements are basically expensive protein powder. The colagen is broken down during manufacturing (hydrolyzed) and your body can't use it directly anyway so taking a collagen supplement is giving your body the enzymes that make up collagen. Its pretty easy to get these from food instead. I guess if you have a particularly poor diet it will probably help.
But the way its marketed (you eat collagen it goes to your skin directly and improves the amount of collagen there) is pretty dishonest.

Yeah azelaic acid goes great with retinoids. They even did some combination studies and found that azelaic acid makes retinoid use more tolerable because of its anti inflammatory properties.
Typically its recommended to use azelaic acid in the am and then a retinoid at night but if you are already acclimated to retinoids i don't really see why you couldn't layer both of them at night. Again azelaic acid stings when you start using it but your skin gets used to it pretty quickly. I kind of enjoy the sensation actually.

Cheap and effective. I buy duplicates because it's a few dollars cheaper than the brand names. These are duplicates of Biore face wash and Neutrogena face lotion.
A note about charcoal cleansers, I believe this to be marketing wank and dont care about charcoal. The ingredient which I'm looking for is salicylic acid. This is the active ingredient in the face wash. It has medicinal properties. It causes the pores in your face to excrete grease. In fact after using a salicylic acid wash my skin feels oily for awhile afterwards and needs to be blotted with a soft towel later. This wash should only be used once a week. Ignore the instructions which say it should be used daily.. they just want to sell more product. I wash my face is with ordinary body soap inbetween weekly salicylic acid face wash.
As for the face lotion, that applied daily after every shower. I use alot. It's helpful that I choose such an inexpensive brand.

Just to follow up on this: I stopped taking my multivitamin on Wednesday, and my skin feels and looks a lot better. Yesterday (Friday) after I showered, a whole ton of dead skin just sloughed right off my face and scalp. Idk wtf was going on, but something in the multivitamin was doing something... I was getting pimples around my face mostly where facial hair was (chin, upper lip, cheeks, neck) and on my scalp (bad enough that you could see it through my hair in some cases). And not just pimples, a lot of my hair follicles looked irritated with bright red skin at the base. It was really bad. The redness is already gone (though some of the pimples are still there). Also, any scars/discoloration stuck around for a very long time.. like weeks. If I nicked myself shaving slightly, the mark would be there for weeks. Skin all over my body was dry as fuck.
So... idk if the multivitamin was the reason, but it seems like it. I started taking it last fall after /fit/ said it would help with my energy for running. That's about the same time the issues started, though I was also making other hygiene and lifestyle changes at the time so I didn't notice the possible connection... I'm going to keep not taking it and see what happens

>> No.18047225

Yeah, retinoids reduce the thinkness of the outer layer of dead skin cells so your skin is more vulnerable to uv damage
>>18047163
You may have psoriasis or eczema.
Try putting lotion on those areas multiple times a day and see if it helps. if not try and see a medical professional or figure out what it is and look into ways you can treat it.

>> No.18047270

>>18047163
Sounds like eczema. I got eczema and have the same issues with my hands as you described, and some lotions can actually make it worse. Try buying a full on eczema cream like cortizone and let it sit on your hands for as long as possible. Note that it doesn't dry out like lotion, so those parts of your hands are going to be slimy and can't be used unless you swipe and wash off the cream, and that if your fingers are still bleeding it'll hurt like a bitch to put the cream on, so I recommend allowing your fingers a day with minimal movement, so the wounds can heal up until it becomes scabs.

It's very mild. That's why it's a common recommendation to start with, it's very safe and hard to hurt yourself with it. You'd have to be very sloppy. However, even with extremely good technique, it won't shave very close. If you don't mind that, or if you don't actually want a close shave (if you're prone to ingrown hairs), then it's good. If you do start with the 34C and want to get more aggressive, you can also use "shims", layering blades with the edges cut off on top of the actual blade, to increase the gap between the guards. It's a pain the ass though, so at that point most people upgrade to more aggressive razors.

2% SA is pretty standard as a BHA. When SA appears in a product in a lower concentration, the % typically isn't listed on the label and is hidden as a formulation secret.
If your acne is inflamed/red and not just comedonal (blackheads, whiteheads), that usually indicates a bacterial factor for which SA is pretty weaksauce. Even azelaic acid would do better than SA in that case (there are studies showing that azelaic acid can sit on top of a moisturizer and still work normally), but most derms would recommend a benzoyl peroxide topical.

The AM moisturizer is a bit greasy, so many people like to use the PM moisturizer both morning and night, with an additional SPF30/SPF50 matte sunscreen when required.
If you don't care about the niacinamide in the AM and PM moisturizers -- because you don't feel you need it or because you're getting it elsewhere from a serum or something -- you can try the more cost-effective CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion in a large bottle.

Another thing I'll mention is that when you start with moisturizers and have a compromised moisture barrier than needs repairing, the ingredients in most moisturizers can burn/inflame your skin and make it look blotchy. Many people mistake this for an allergic reaction, but it will stop happening after a few days to a week. If you don't get an allergic reaction from a patch test on your inner elbow or whatever, then any undesirable facial response usually means the moisture barrier needs a few days to a week of moisturizing sessions to repair itself. What some people do is toss out three or four moisturizers during this process and settle on the one that doesn't produce a reaction solely because the moisture has been repaired by that point. I made this mistake in the past.

Razor bumps are usually the result of shaving too close, the follicles get trapped under the skin as they regrow and for whatever reason can't break through. If your hair is curly, you'll be even more prone to it since the hairs wont' be pushing straight outward. Either stop shaving so close, or you can also try exfoliating and softening your skin to (in theory) make it easier for the follicles to break through.

You know those shampoos and conditioners that contain moisturizing oils and other ingredients for dry scalps? The directions say to leave them in for a minute or two, which I do, but I've been wondering.. does the scalp "grab" those ingredients properly before the shampoo/conditioner gets washed out?
Same question I guess for the SA cleanser that >>18056020 mentioned.

usually people do retinoids 5 times a week in pm and the other 2 days exfoliate
since you use mild exfoliant, you can use exfoliant more often, but people tend to max out retinoids days
if you are new to skincare - in case you have sensitive skin make one change at a time
some people jump on full-on skincare routine day one with tret and 30% AHA exfoliants. they get burned easily and hate skincare forever

Chemical exfoliators tend to sting when you put them on. Especially when you aren't used to using them. If it is painful try to find a weaker acid, if it just stings some then sick with it using it once or twice a week at first and see how it goes. You can try leaving it on for only 1-2 minutes and see if that's more comfortable.
But yeah in my experience chemical exfoliation stings for 10-30 minutes afterwards and then maybe has a slight warm feeling after that.

I think your routine is pretty minimal for someone using a retinoid.
I use tret and i do 2 things differently then you for hydration.
I use a Korean or Japanese hydrating toner. (Im pretty sure the CeraVe on has niacinamide in it which might be whats irritating you.
Try either Hadalabo Gokujyun "lotion" (its a hydrating liquid) or a Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate Toner from a brand like COSRX or one thing, watch out for ones with niacinamide, which hazel, alcohol or other astringent ingredients, you just want hydration. And put it on after washing your face and before applying serums or retinoids or moisturizers.
The other thing i do is put a much heavier moisturizer on at night, i currently just use the big tub of CeraVe moisturizing cream but the other popular recommended is laroche possay CICAPLAST BALM B5.
For skin redness you may want to consider adding an azelaic acid cream in the mornings. The otc 10% to 15% ones are fine. AA is a powerful anti inflammatory and skin soother that also helps reduce redness and hyperpigmentation. It stings right when you put it on but after that it's fine, just don't get freaked out the first time you use it and your face feels weird.

Keeping a light moisturizer during the day is fine. At night i personally put on a generous application of a lighter moisturizer and then slop some heavy moisturizer on on top of it.
But honestly just the heavy moisturizer at night should be fine.
Based on the fact that you like Asian products i would suggest trying PYUNKANG YUL Nutrition Cream. I used a tub last year and it has a nice texture and has a good weight to it. They also make a cream called Pyunkang Yul Calming Moisture Barrier Cream which might be good for hitting trouble spots like nasolabial folds and anywhere else you might see peeling when you start tret.
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm B5 is another one that gets recommended as a heavy cream for dealing with dryness and irritation from starting retinods. I haven't tried that one myself.
Lately i just use the big bottle of cerave daily lotion and layer the tub of CeraVe moisturizing cream over it.

There is also GHK-Cu copper peptides, which seem to have some proven results, the most affordable way to get them from a legit manufacturer is the ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% Serum. salicylic acid isnt that harsh and you can always test it by washing it off after a few minutes. extend the time every day and see how it goes. or use it with moisturizer
also check out dr dray or other youtube derms what are their recommendations

you might want to compare ingredients between this and some acne patch product. the latter probably contains some additional actives against acne

opinions on vitamin c powder? anyone tried? thinking about this instead of my geek & gorgeous vitamin c serum

>> No.18072972

>>18072883
What would you do with it?
I guess its a solution to the problem that vitamin c is extremely unstable in formulas but are you going to mix it with some serum or water every day before applying it? If you just make a big bottle of some shit it's going to just break down in a few weeks and then not work.
You can probably get a kilo of it from Amazon or some other bulk supplier for like $10.
I guess if you were ambitious you could buy some ferulic acid and vitamin e and try to clone the skincuticals C E ferulic formula but it seems like you would have to do some serious research about formulation.
Vitamin c seems kind of overhyped anyway.
Just use azelaic acid cream

I think people add a little of this powder to their moisturizers or HA serums daily but this is prone to error (too strong or weak solution) since they mix it on their hand right before application and the scoop is probably bad for this scenario
Maybe small parts done every weekend and store in fridge (idk)
>Vitamin c seems kind of overhyped anyway
Yeah I'm trying out vitamin C serum for the second time (had no effects last year) and will try to keep it up for 6 months this time. I have no expectations though. Was just looking at my options

I'm about to order some tubes of Beauty of Joseon SPF so I don't run out from Stylevana and just do a bulk order of 2-3. But anything else you'd recommend? For reference my routine basically looks like

AM
>cleanse with cerave moisturizing cleanser if skin is a little gnarly, otherwise water is fine
>stridex pads a few times a week
>First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Daily Moisturizer
>Beauty of Joseon SPF

PM
>Cleanse
>exfoliate with either cerave retinol or cerave AHA, I do this a few times a week and alternate
>cerave hydrating toner
>First Aid Ultra Repair Moisturizing Cream

I swapped out my moisturizers with First Aid, but I was thinking of going back to Cerave in the purple tub since I thought it penetrated a bit better. Feel like my skin leans dry. It's not horribly dry or anything, but it dries out a bit more with the exfoliation and I wouldn't mind finding a moisturizer that makes a bit more of a difference.
>tl;dr recommend me any cool shit from stylevana i might try out since I'm already doing an order

i apply epiduo under eyes and it thickened my skin a bit - the veins are less visible
in terms of sunscreen use 30 spf minimum, preferably 50. there are all kind of sunscreens and you basically need to choose one to your liking (your shine tolerance, consistency, white cast, actives, moisturizing factors etc). best to check out youtube sunscreen reviewers to see what does it look like applied on a face

good stuff, use it myself, can recommend
my next spfs on the list are
- ISNTREE Hyaluronic Acid Water Sun Gel SPF50+PA++++
- SOME BY MI Truecica Aqua Calming Suncream SPF 50+
heard they dont leave any shine
>was thinking of going back to Cerave in the purple tub since I thought it penetrated a bit better
an anon or two recommended this a few threads ago which is also on my to do list once im finished with my current moisturizer
COSRX - Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask
moisturizers are never ending experiment for me. i found very good one recently but it is vanilla scented (hate vanilla) and wont buy it again lol
if you want to experiment you may also consider incorporating additional oils like squalane to mix with your moisturizer or apply afterwards
>>18075462
derm prescribed me epiduo (adapalene + BP) and never mentioned to use any sunscreen so idk. i wear it anyway
i used two 10% BP tubes a year ago without sunscreen and am fine
sunscreen once in the morning is enough unless you are super sweaty, wipe your face a lot or you are going for a swim. a hat might also help but i think its not enough on its own
there are also UV camera mirrors that show how much UV light you absorb when using sunscreen

id say add salicylic acid/BHA toner after cleansing in AM, use sunscreen afterwards if going out
in PM start retinol, specifically this one >>18039480 (start every 2 days and work it up to use everyday), moisturize afterwards
make sure your moisturizer contains niacinamide if you have acne prone skin
you may also consider azelaic acid (use whenever) or benzoyl peroxide (do not use in the same routine as retinol)
make sure to not squeeze cystic acne
report back in a month

I also have Seb and I'll tell you the things that completely changed my life in case they can do the same for you. The first thing is that you must shave your face with a razor every single day without fail. If I miss even one day its all fucked for a few days. You probably already do that I hope because the gunk that causes seb gets all caught in your hair follicles. The other thing is that at night after I wash and moisturize I slug my face with Aquaphor before bed. Just an amount the size of a bean or so to totally cover the face in a decent but thin layer and go to sleep. After I started doing these two things I haven't ever seen my seb again. Nothing works for everybody tho.

Ivory soap in the shower. Halfway through the day, I wipe the grease off my face with a brown napkin or brown paper towel and can see the grease. That's it. No skin problems.
I always wonder what women do because you can't just wipe the shiny oil off your shiny oil sweaty face with makeup on, can you? But maybe the makeup soaks it up too.

Are body exfoliants basically the same as facial exfoliants? My whole life I've gotten away with just washing my thighs with soap and a rag in the shower but for some reason I've been getting a shit load of clogged pores and ingrown hairs recently so I want to start using exfoliant on my body. Currently I use CeraVe SA cleanser, can I use this or should I get something less gentle?

Get some ginseng extract from the Korean government ginseng cartel, stuff really gets the blood pumping, im not some hippy herbal medicine guy but ginseng really works, noticably gets your body running in high gear, warms you up, gives you energy.
You just mix like half a teaspoon or whatever the box says into some hot water in a mug and chug it, maybe add honey if you don't like the taste.
Pic related brand is pretty ubiquitous and good quality.
