How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Correct. He only replaced the midsole because it was originally synthetic. Now that it's leather it won't need replacing again. It will still be more expensive than $60 because Bedos is expensive. But he is actually my local cobbler, and he is world class, so it's worth it for me not to have to ship them somewhere and worry about that.

I'm in the market for a pair of shell cordovan shoes. I plan on buying them to pair with my wedding suit, but I am wanting to get something that I can wear in the future with my "dressy casual" outfits. Currently I am leaning toward Alden's plain toe bluchers, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these. If you all have different suggestions, I would prefer shell cordovan and no cap toes

Is lexol still the recommended light conditioner for leather? I've used it for years and have a bottle of the old one still as I believe they changed the formula and outsourced to china which pissed off a lot of people. Anything else that should be considered? I liked lexol because it didn't seem to darken lighter leathers unlike virtually everything else I've tried. That bottle won't last forever and I'd like an alternative.

Also, is pic related still recommended as a light coat on shell? I used to use it and then some of that re-bottled windex that is Alden's Leather Defender to guard against those water blister things. Seemed to work.

Opinions on this sole? I don't like commando soles because they ruin the silhouete of the shoes/boots but this one is kinda low profile enough to get away with it.

I've had these Viberg double butts for 6 weeks now and they're still loosening up. They came with 2 pairs of laces and one's already dead, each shoe ate a lace. The leather was initially so stiff that something had to give when they flexed and the thinner Italian waxed laces didn't stand a chance. Still really like the color and the thickness on the leather. The veg tan shows all the little bumps and nicks they get.

Those are cool
I always find Vibergs very good looking and I also really like their laces
They also seem well built and crease excellently

I sold my Vibergs because they were half a size too small and a full size too narrow. They were also bottom-heavy and dainite sole made them uncomfortable.

I have often thought about buying again, half a size up and 1035 last which is said to be a little wider. And Ridgeway sole so it's less rough.
Alternatively, go up a full size and throw a cushy insole in there. No width problems either but it may look clownish to wear UK11 shoes when I'm 180cm.

I own a pair of whites in arch ease 1972 but I'm wondering because I want a pair of hnw because of a specific boot. This confuses me a bit because why does the boot maker matter? Isn't a last a last? What's the difference with toe size though if you say the only difference is toe size.

I'd like something inbetween a 1972
which feels basically flat to me and a 55 last. I love the 55 last but I bend over with my knees mostly straight, hands touching the floor. And I think the high heel of the 55 last would make this difficult. Also because of my job the 55 last I think wouldn't let me feel the position of my foot very well and I'm not trying to fall off a scaffold.

IRs, blacksmiths and Beckmans are all made in the same last. The clown toe of the IRs is by design, so either a bug or a feature depending on how you look at it.
They have a true toe cap plus a structured toe, and are made in an oil tanned leather that turns supple and flexible in no time.
Combined with the extra structure integrity that the facings give to the upper, the result is an area between the facings and the toe cap that's way less stiff and prone to heavy creasing.
On top of this tgey don't have a leather midsole, so they flex in that area a lot. All IRs I've seen develop a ton of creasing in that area even after a couple of wears. I strongly tecommend shoe tress to keep the creasing under control and prevent excessive toe spring from developing, which will occur in time.
The Brckmans, on the other hand, have a stiffer and probably thicker leather all around and a leather midsole, so creasing and toe spring takes way longer to develop even if you don't use shoe trees.
I've no experience with Blacksmiths.
