I tried out a compressor case dive watch today, specifically the Longines legend diver, and I wan disappointed with it. I didn't realize before testing it out that the crown that controls the timing bezel is screw down. If a threaded crown is needed for water resistance I get it, but doesn't that make it ridiculously impractical to use? You have to take the watch off to start timing something. The clasp doesn't even have a divers extension for if you were actually serious about diving with it.

Aesthetically, though, they look and feel great to wear. I just don't see how you could comfortably use its features.

I think there are vintage Rolii with stick hands, but the mercedes hour hand has a practical function; in poor lighting or adverse conditions, you can clearly make out the difference between hour and minute hand due to shape. I think it looks great for Rolex, and is a defining feature.

>>18010791
Not sure what you want thoughts on, so I'll tackle all of them. Congrats on the bonus! Definitely try to talk the AD down; you've got nothing to lose. From what I've heard, the date window issue seems fixed, so hopefully you won't get a lemon. Have you tried it on yet? If you have it on the wrist and you love it, then why not? I'm not much of a fan of them, due to the thickness of the case, but that's a personal pet-peeve.

>>18010870
It's not impractical because bezels should be adjusted for full safety reasons off-the-wrist (it's the same reason why the PloProf has the button, requiring you to use two hands to do everything). As for the clasp...yeah, but the watch is far cheaper than other divers, so you get what you pay for (i.e. design and attention to heritage detail). I personally love the way it looks, except I find the lugs to be too dainty and fragile looking, hence why I've never gotten one. Which colours were you looking at? I think the bronze one looks awesome...

Old pic: today I put the old speedy on the NATO because I haven't done so in ages...love this combo.

Because if it can be moved that easily, then it's possible for it to be moved when underwater. Both the proplof and the Legend diver have bezels that must be set above water or at least with the watch off the wrist, meaning that once it's set, it's set. With any normal bezel, it can be knocked out of position, and though they are uni-directional, it still makes the timing incorrect. It'll be safely under-time, but still incorrect.

Happy Lunar New Year Omega-kun as well as happy handegg sunday. I don't know if you remember me but I finally made it to an Omega boutique to try the 57' in its standard black/gray dial with patina indicies. Overall I thought I would love it but I don't really like how most of the movement is covered. I also tried the Moon Watch in Sapphire and I love it more. Only thing right now is waiting for the price to come down even lower, the boutique did hint that discounts might be available towards the end of the quarter around 2nd-3rd weeks of March.

However the GM prices are also pretty well below retail at least for the Hesalite version($1000-$1500 below retail), the Sapphire version which is the one I want is still. a bit above retain($1k). Can you explain why the Hesalite which is the more traditional historical watch dropping much faster than the Sapphire? I just like the Sapphire because I fell in love with the movement inside and the display case back just makes it easier to look at it.

do you think that i could safely wear a seiko marvel or seiko super 2-3x a week? i absolutely love the styling on them, but i've never "daily" worn a vintage watch earlier than the mid 80s (my raketa and vostok) so i'm sort of nervous about it, especially with washing my hands, etc

not to mention the price, my "vintage" stuff is all worth less than $100, these in decent shape are $300-$500 which is a bit more than i'd like to keep on my wrist

They are sturdier than one might think. Is the one you're thinking of buying the same condition as your pic? If yes, just wear it as much as you want man. They are made to be worn everyday, don't forget, watches used to have their actual use.

same condition, used, but cleaned up and serviced to some degree. i just feel like almost guilty or something to wear something like that a few times a week (i mix things up a bit with my other cheap vintage stuff).

i really want a lord marvel, since they have the first GS movement in them which is pretty cool, but i also think that i'd probably be even more nervous with one of those since they're $800-$1000 area which just feels more like museum piece at that point for vintage

i've never owned a vintage seiko, my oldest stuff is a 40 year old casio which feels incredibly fragile despite being digital. my slav watches are also pretty creaky/loose feeling, but i'm not sure if that was how they were new or not too.

Bad example. That 8900 has beveling on the bridges, radial Omega-style striping, chemically blackened screws and pearling on the base. The Seiko has the striping. That's it. The rest is industrial bead-blasting.

>>18012218 If you ever get a chance to disassemble a Rolex movement, you'll find that there actually is quite a bit of finishing work, even if the work is all done by machines, not by hand. It's even in the parts that you'd never see, even if they used display backs.

I know it's en vogue to hate on Rolex because they can't meet demand and their ADs are corrupt motherfuckers, but there's a reason they occupy the market spot they do: they make a great watch.

To be fair GS does some of that as well, but mostly not. I understand them however, is it reasonable and practicable to put in so much work just so that only the watchmaker that will service the movement can see the perlage on the underside of some movement plate. I know i could live without it if it meant the watch is a few 100$ cheaper. I also know it's not haute horlogerie, but you can't expect that at this price point. Rolex does make good watches, no doubt about it.

They retail for roughly the same price so I think it's fair. Omega movements like in the seamaster don't hold up even without macro but thats just from my personal experience.

I don't hate Rolex btw, quite like them actually. May one day try and pick up an OP 39 Grape dial with the single batons. Great watches.
