Why does this sound like a terrible advice? Why do boots "have to' strong and last forever for it to be valid? Why can't it be just about "style" which arguably one of the most important aspect of buying clothes.
The second question may sound funny from first glance and I can understand from the perspective of wanting to get a good quality stuff, like of course. but why does we have to throw out the conversation of style, aesthetic and comfortability out of the window for that and act like it doesn't mean anything.

What if I just want cool looking boots with an okay construction that would last me for about a year and a half? Like what about it

>> No.17981587

>>17981584
Cheaply constructed goods really age fast, and they tend to look like shit after a few months and can't be restored. But high quality constructions will look good for years and can be repaired and refurbished to look good far longer. But yeah, if you only want it for one outfit that's why fast fashion exists.

>>17981587
yeah I get that and that isn't what I mean.
Cheap stuff will of course look cheap and for a dog shit quality boots, lasting 3 months would be a miracle.

I just don't get the narrative of everything HAS to be about how long it can last and really nothing else. I'm not saying that I support fast fashion at all but I just don't think boots discussion should be about "how long it will last". not everyone use boots to go hiking, climb mountains or any real outdoor activity. A lot of people wear boots but work in IT.
Like what's wrong with fashionable boots with an ok construction.

I think if we were to wider the discussion of boots, this general would be so fun.
imagine Jeans thread but all they talk about is RAW DENIM.

I just hate it when the conversation of "how it looks" or style aren't considered valid. and I even see some of you anons here look down on comfortability and say that it isn't a "real" pair of boots.

and like, my brother in christ, you live in a suburb/city, the only thing you're stepping on, is concrete floor and you work in IT. Why are you shaming people for buying 150-200$ boots (assuming that the quality isn't dog shit or overpriced and you're essentially get what you pay for). I don't get it.

I get that they will last longer. But I’m mad my footbed got ruined within weeks of daily wear with my redwings. If I don’t change my oil in the car it will still hit 80k at least. If I do maybe it hits 200k before something worse happens. This is the equivalent of my car exploding at 15k miles. I want to know if my footbed will not be ruined with daily wear of nicks or Frank’s. I don’t need 20 resole and 5 rebuilds. They’ll be fucked by then anyways. I just want like 2 resole and 5 years or so and I’ll buy new ones for 600 idc. But my redwings exploding after 2 months or less seems insane especially for heritage footwear. It makes sense when you realize leather is a natural material that breathes and absorbs moisture (even after tanning) therefore it requires proper care to reap the full benefits. Also anyone who spends $600 on a pair of boots and doesn’t buy shoe trees is retarded.

In 1820 every city had multiple tanneries, as leather was used for everything. Boots probably cost $15 a pair back then. And yeah, they probably did wear them out super fucking fast because they didn't rotate them or use shoe trees.

Because they want you coming back for resoles and rebuilds. More money for them. Also pnw construction is far from the best. Low spi, mediocre finishing, and stitchdown is inferior to GYW. But at least you get THICC leather which is all that matters to some people since it’s memed so hard.

What’s spi and what do you consider a good boot then? I’m happy to admit I got memed. I just require boots daily for my work and once I felt the comfort/support difference I can’t go back. I should and likely will just give in and get two pairs it’s just irritating no one talks about this. Not even their own websites. And honestly now I’m worried if I do get two pairs and rotate after 12 hours of heavy use/sweating it won’t even be enough and the issue will happen at 6 months instead of 2.

I use FP insoles, way better than gel, it's ultra high density memory foam that absorbs 90% of shock, gel doesn't absorb shit.
I just use the 3 mm one that for boots not meant to have an insole and go up a width size, and with boots that have an insole I use their game changer without any sizing change.

I hate this type of advice. Not because it doesn't make sense, it sorta does, but because it assumes an approach to boots that is far from universal.
Boots are a hobby, and as such you're under no obligation to get boots in any particular order like
>the x type of boots you need in your wardrobe
And other youtube videos like thay.
>but I need boots for my job
Well, if you're doing some sort of trade or manual job that requires boots then you should get the most adequate pair for it, looks should be a secondary concern if at all.
You don't need boots for your office job, you don't need arch support nor keeping your ankles warm while sitting at your computer reading emails and filling up excell sheets.
And if your job has a dress code that starts a business casual, you will be best served with derbies or oxfords.
Nobody gives a shit about your boots except you and other bootfags, and 90% of those are reddit retards.
So get a pair in navy, green, burgundy or whatever, wear them with whatever you like and enjoy them how you like without concerning yourself about what some terminally online spergs think what shoukd be the appropiate number of boots and in which order you should get them.

it's going to look fucked and you will have to commit to reapplying cream to hide the true color underneath
if you want to undo the whole thing you will have to use strong cleaners/solvents, which isn't great for the leather, doesn't remove the cream entirely or evenly and takes some of the burgundy pigment with it

how about you just don't do it to begin with
