what's a good way to treat blackheads/sebaceous filament (not sure which it is, though i'm leaning towards the latter) on my nose? read that the nose strips are not recommended since it might enlarge the pores and be harmful in the long run, and the link to the blackhead video in the pastebin doesn't work.

in general its okay but
>- 5% Niacinamide serum
if you are not super attached to your moisturizer, get one that has niacinamide (usually 1%-4% content) so you could skip the serum. or check if any of your other products already has it
>- Double cleanse
whats your oil based cleanser? been wanting one for so long but not many choices in my area
>heard HA is overhyped and longterm isnt actually that beneficial for the skin
i only heard it can be drying if there is no humidity where you live. HA actually needs moisture (eg from moisturizer) to take water from and put into skin. sometimes it takes moisture from the skin instead (lol) and dries you out

>Skin concerns: Enlarged pores, Skin texture
have you considered stronger exfoliators? not necessarily the ordinary 30% AHA but something like 10%-15%. some of them are recommended to wash off after certain period of time (eg 15 minutes) instead of leaving them on

Anyone have experience with at-home skin resurfacing methods? I have pretty bad acne scarring that I want to get rid of & the dermatologist quoted me some crazy prices. hello frens, i'm looking to switch up my skincare routine to better suit some of my needs:
- i have eczema which causes some redness around my cheeks and under my nose. i feel like my current routine isn't helping much with the redness.
- i struggle with sebaceous filaments in both my nose and chin, which i feel the double cleansing isn't doing much to help clear. i suspect it might be due to the oil cleanser, seeing as i have tried about four different foam cleansers but always the same oil cleanser.

oil cleanser: kose speedymo speedymo
foam cleanser: etude soon jung whip cleanser
clay mask: innisfree pore cleaning clay mask (2x week)
toner: naturie hatomugi skin conditioner
actives: cosrx aha 7 whitehead power liquid / cosrx bha blackhead power liquid
serums: purito centella serum / beauty of joseon propolis glow serum
moisturizer: isntree aloe soothing emulsion
sunscreen: uriage bariesun spf 50+

also, last month i started using the cosrx aha power liquid to clear closed comedones on my forehead. this caused a purge in that area only, which is starting to clear up as i use the liquid more (every 2 days). what can i expect after the purge is fully completed? thank you

As a complete beginner, what brand of DE safety razor should I get? I have soft and fairly mild facial hair so it's not like I need to cut down a forest daily. Just looking for a better way to do my 1-2 per week shave. There wasn't a lot of brand info in the wiki and the options online seem wildly varied in price.

>> No.17961295

>>17961076
I personally don't think brand is that much of a differentiator, since each brand manufactures multiple models with different levels of aggressiveness. If you currently only shave a couple times a week and aren't worried about getting a very close shave every day, then look around for a mild razor. The Merkur 34C is generally considered a very mild starter razor, though there's been quality issues lately with blades not being correctly aligned (one side more aggressive than the other when they should be equal). If you're in the Seattle area, you can have my old one, though it does have the alignment issue sometimes. There are plenty of other razors available at varying levels of aggressiveness. The blade you choose also matters, as they vary in sharpness and aggressiveness as well (though it's a smaller effect than razor). You can also get an adjustable razor that lets you change the aggressiveness by twisting something, though those are more expensive.
If you want to do some research, there's a guy on YT with the channel "geofatboy" who does lots of review/demo and instruction videos. If you don't mind visiting reddit just to read, the "wicked_edge" subreddit has a lot of discussion. Most questions you can come up have probably already been asked and answered there.

Thank you for the sources but your answer to my question asking for brand recs was basically to say "the brands are different" when the variety is specifically why I am asking.

If brand isn't much of a differentiator why would I buy a 50$ razor over a 20$ razor, or a 90$ razor for that matter? What am I actually paying for, and why?

>> No.17961342

>>17961318
It's tricky and takes a lot of practice, because the angle you hold the razor matters greatly. Depending on how aggressive the razor is, if you're off by a little bit then it won't shave as close. Or, it could end up cutting/razor-burning you. There's no pivoting head like on cartridges, so it's all up to you to get the angle correct.
>>17961320
Honestly, I don't really know what differentiates them based on price. I'd guess build materials are a big part, but also design of the razor. Like I said, the adjustable ones would cost more because they have more going on. There are also different types of heads, like closed vs open comb. I would imagine the open ones are more difficult to manufacture and put together. Beyond that... I don't know.

On the Australian market, there are only three CeraVe facial products containing SA. The two cleansers with SA are less than ideal because of the rinse, right?

https://www.cerave.com.au/ceramides-skin-care/cleansers/sa-smoothing-cleanser-with-salicylic-acid
https://www.cerave.com.au/ceramides-skin-care/cleansers/blemish-control-cleanser-for-acne-prone-skin

The remaining product is Blemish Control Gel, which is a leave-on BHA/AHA mix:

https://www.cerave.com.au/ceramides-skin-care/face-serums/blemish-control-salicylic-acid-gel-for-acne-prone-skin

Would that serve as a good twice-weekly exfoliant for normal/dry skin that has some slight blemishes (hint of redness, barely perceptible pimple-looking spots)? I like the idea of a BHA/AHA mix. As I understand it, everyone agrees AHAs are fine for normal to dry skin, and although some sources say not to use BHAs on normal to dry skin, apparently SA in particular is fine, especially if it's only twice a week (some even say daily SA use is fine on dry skin).
If someone knows a better BHA/AHA exfoliant from Paula's Choice, I'd be grateful if you could peep this:

im unable to find the AHA content for Blemish Control Gel. however the website states to use 1-3 times daily
>2.Cover the entire face with a thin layer of the gel one to three times daily, avoiding the eye area and lips.
which means there is not much AHA content. pretty sure even glycolic acid toner from the ordinary has more AHA content than this.
for twice weekly usage id say anything between 10-30% AHA is fine
25% AHA + 2% BHA Exfoliant Peel from Paulas choice looks cool specifically because there are a few different AHA in there and it won't be as harsh as the ordinary 30% AHA 2% BHA which consists of 30% glycolic acid. glycolic acid is the most harsh of all. with Exfoliant Peel from Paulas choice you get benefit of many acids.
these two are to be washed off after 5-15 minutes.
if you are interested in leave on products or just want something weaker then probably get paulas choice bha toner and Advanced Smoothing Treatment 10% AHA i guess or see if there is any other company offering 10% AHA 2% BHA solution

Thanks for the help, anon. I think Blemish Control Gel is the Australian name for the American Acne Control Gel:

https://www.cerave.com/skincare/acne/acne-control-gel

All the ingredients are identical, as is the concentration of SA, so I'm assuming the AHA concentration is identical too. People are asking about the AHA concentration in the question section of that page, but the CeraVe rep is responding with the boilerplate about proprietary information. Noticing a lot of products from other brands where they too give the BHA % but not the AHA %. Frustrating.

Which is more /skg/ for chemical exfoliation: a weekly (or twice-weekly) peel that you leave on for some minutes and rinse off... or lighter leave-on exfoliants for daily use?

This is how my face looked 1 hour after washing it with lukewarm water. I have never used any cleanses and just moisturize with the slightest amount of nivea creme.

Does this count as greasy or normal? My cheeks felt a bit drier than my T-area so maybe I have combination skin?

Pause this video at 1:00 to see a nice chart from a dermatologist of some common ingredients (including the three you mention) vs. conditions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3aIeABbNvY
It's not a perfect chart - some ingredients have uses not shown, and there are missing ingredients - but it gives a good idea.
When products mention BHA, they're almost always referring to salicylic acid (shown in the chart). When products mention AHA, they're referring to acids like lactic acid (shown), glycolic acid (not shown), and several others.
These ingredients shown are the hard science - you can go to PubMed and type them in. Skincare products such as creams, lotions, serums, etc., are just the delivery vehicles for these ingredients. The bullshit is in the competitive marketing and ridiculous price points, not the ingredients themselves - imagine a bunch of companies vying with one another to sell bottled water, where you can find $50 bottles and $2 bottles.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask but I have like a small sebaceous cyst on my wang (the shaft part) that keeps coming back. I want it gone so girls don't get grossed out if I ever get laid. It's not red/infected and it doesn't hurt at all but I have to squeeze the pus out every couple of months and I don't have the pain tolerance nor the metaphorical balls to just cut it off.
Does anyone here know any treatments for this? I've heard that apple cider vinegar might help but I need to know if that is ok to put on my dick. The primary acne-fighting ingredients here are salicylic acid and, to a lesser extent, glycolic acid. Some people have bad reactions to niacinamide, so patch test if you go with this product. You can find simpler and much cheaper products centered on 2% salicylic acid, usually marketed as BHA exfoliants or exfoliating toners (don't bother with salicylic acid cleansers, because you want to leave the acid on your skin).
Don't jump into using salicylic acid every day. Start with once a week in the first week, twice a week in the second week, etc., increasing each week as tolerance and comfort permit. Apply at night and be more diligent about wearing sunscreen when the UV index is >= 3, because these acids increase your skin's sun-sensitivity (technically, it's not really an issue with BHAs like salicylic acid, but it will be with AHAs like the glycolic acid in that LRP product if you go with it).

i would go for something easier. 30% is dangerous for the first exfoliator. it can burn your skin really hard and it could discourage you. maybe go for their glycolic toner or anything up to 10% AHA leave-on OR 15% wash-off

>Also is pic rel a good AHA/BHA exfoliator to buy?
I'm the anon from an earlier thread who was looking into that as an exfoliant (though for some reason, CeraVe uses the word 'blemish' instead of 'acne' in several products on the Australian market -- Blemish Control Gel instead of Acne Control Gel, Blemish Control Cleanser instead of Acne Control Cleanser, etc.). We had trouble finding the AHA %. CeraVe refuses to disclose it, though I did recently see that the Target website is listing it as AHA 5.5%:
https://www.target.com/p/cerave-salicylic-acid-acne-treatment-control-gel-1-35oz/-/A-82403939

Me again. OK, I checked the Web Archive on https://www.cerave.com/skincare/acne/acne-control-gel thinking they may have listed the AHA % at an earlier time, but nothing. I then Google searched for "alpha hydroxy acids help smooth and soften skin," which is the boilerplate on Target, Walmart, etc., and found this:
https://www.ceraveus.com/product/cerave-salicylic-acid-acne-treatment-control-gel-1-35oz/
But it turns out that ceraveus.com is a bit of a scam site run by some Asian dude. He started it off as a site selling music products and hasn't even bothered to update the FAQ, which still mentions music speakers. So he lifted the boilerplate from somewhere else as well.
My guess is that CeraVe includes the AHA % on B2B product brochures that it sends to retailers.

I'm doing cleanser, vitamin C serum, moisturizer, retinol, and I'm still breaking out. Then I use spot gel and it really doesn't work that much.

I'm tired of this. I'm 26. I'm too old for this.

Thats great! I absolutely love aloe vera, it healed almost everything on my face. People who say "it burns/itch when i put it on" its because a lot of people just cut it and apply directly. I had to find that out the hard way. After years of using it, I finally know the correct way to apply it. Just cut a piece, you will see yellow liquid fall from the bottom(this causes itching) its called aloin, its a laxative. Put the leaf upside down for a few hours to drain the sap/aloin, after that cut the edges of the leaf and you can then chop it into smaller pieces your wish, put these into a bowl of water to further clean them, change the water after every 2-3 hrs and then its done you can just cut the top part of the leaf and rub it into your skin. I would recommend applying it when youre about to go to sleep..since its sticky you do not want to put that and go out. Thats what worked for me. Hope you get the same results anon.

For UKfags, these are heavily discounted from Fenwick and H Beauty right now, and I’ve really been enjoying them.
Dew drops especially are moisturising and they have a thick quality, slightly slow to absorb. Feels lovely after, very plump ans well hydrated.

Also they’re glass bottles, which just feels fancy. I’ll probably refill them with cheaper stuff when they’re used.

>I have bad dark circle
i suggest to diagnose this with (other) professional to understand if this is pigment, thin skin + visible veins, the way you are or just getting old
>Skin Cueticals
not familiar with skinceuticals other than that they created a stable vitamin c serum formula which is expensive as fuck
>dried my skin out
even the most expensive exfoliator in the world will dry you out. comes down to what ingredient you are using and not how much you pay. always moisturize. and even then you can still be dry as a side effect of a product
>good soothing products to try and can help with redness and acne for oily skin
- oil free moisturizer with niacinamide (eg cerave; cetaphil also have one i think)
- anti-acne product (benzoyl peroxide or azelaic acid or AHA/BHA/PHA exfoliators, like paulas choice toners)
- centella asiatica seems to be very popular for soothing lately, you can also look for ceramides in products (most cerave products have ceramides)
- retinol wont be soothing but will speed up pimple lifecycle (cerave resurfacing retinol serum specifically will be great because of other ingredients it has against redness)
- sunscreen to prevent further hyperpigmentation if you are outside often during the day

from this list start with moisturizer, retinol and sunscreen, maybe centella ampule/serum. you should notice an improvement just with these in next weeks.
in 2-4 weeks once your skin adapts to your routine, get anything mentioned in anti-acne products (one, not all of them). keep in mind they are all drying. benzoyl peroxide is best otc treatment i think, followed by azelaic acid. exfoliator containing BHA will also help with oilyness.
>charcoal scrub
dont, get chemical exfoliator instead. most delicate is lactic acid. it works better and more effectively than physical scrubs, also less irritating for the skin

once you choose what to order report back with the list so we can see if anything clashes and create routine

nobodys skin is perfect, unless you use camera filters. there is a high chance you just saw too many of edited pics. social media is retarded for this and people literally kill themselves over such things. certain products like retinoids are clinically tried in blinded studies and there is actual science behind them. so if they don't work for you it is an anomaly. i assume you already reviewed your routines in every possible way, so the only thing I can suggest is go to derm for stronger retinoid or maybe you did not use something as often as you should. some anon earlier in the thread used a cream with retinyl palmitate and saw no results, which is not surprising. but again you probably reviewed these things already. keep in mind there is also a chance you have no skin issues to fix to begin with

neutrogena hydro boost is a light, oil free moisturizer. maybe you should try a heavier one, especially in PM routine. something that contains shea butter maybe. basically try to look for something that is non-comedogenic and wont cause breakouts (check reviews). or maybe slug with LRP cicaplast baume b5+ instead with a few drops of squalane. up to you
>too stingy with the moisturiser
>TO hyaluronic acid
not sure if it applies to you but hyaluronic acid can be drying in arid climate. many people have this issue. you can google this to better understand why is that. disregard if thats not the case for you
also note that hydro boost contains hyaluronic acid too
>glycolic acid
consider trying out lactic acid instead which is recommended for dry skin (less harsh than glycolic)

Oh okay whoops oh I'm using way too much hyaluronic acid and not enough other stuff. Okay I'll get a heavier pm moisturizer, I'll keep it for the morning though cuz the texture is nice. I'm in a humid environment though so it is still fine. I plan on slugging with just vaseline more and more but since I'm also using retinol in the evening I can only do so much, eventually once I have a tolerance I think I can slug and use retinol at the same time, especially on a weak retinol like the Cerave I'm using. How's my routine/what would you add to it ? Considering one of these jade rollers+guasha but idk how much of it is bullshit

All of my artemisia based products come from a Korean brand, I have sensitive skin and I found out it helps a lot personnally

>AM
- Rince with cold water
- Toner (Artemisia based)
- Serum (Artemisia based)
- Moisturizer (Artemisia based)
- Eye cream (Black snail based), I also apply it on my forehead wrinkles
- Sunscreen (50SPF)

>PM
- Cleanse with egg-white soap
- Serum (Castor oil + Retinol (0,3%))
- Moisturizer (Artemisia-based)
- Eye-cream (Black snail based)

I only put few droplets of the serum as I dont want red skin when waking up. Also I exfoliate twice a week :

>Wednesdays
- Volcanic clay mask

>Sundays
- AHA+BHA Peeling

I really don't know where to begin with my skin now that I'm 29. I've always loosely on and off used Cerave cleanser and moisturizer, and usually stridex pads. I don't really struggle with any acne though. Should I still be using those then? I've always been told I have really nice skin. I still think I do. But I do look at it and it doesn't seem smooth and consistent, despite being pretty blemish free and soft. Anybody know what I mean? I can try and get a picture in the next few days...I'd say my skin leans slightly dry, but I'd call it normal if I'm being blunt. My nose is a little oily with sebaceous filaments, and i do sometimes think my forehead is dryer than the rest.

Anyways, what would you recommend I augment my Cerave with? Should I get an AHA and start using that? is a BHA for more than just acne? I think now that I'm getting a bit older, I really wanna shift more towards good maintenance so I age gracefully rather than like milk. I'd say despite doing crack, my dad honestly aged pretty damn well for a guy in his 60s, so i think genetics will be on my side, but who knows?

unless you are talking about serum, then it is the other way around. you apply serum first and then moisturizer on top of it so it can pull water from moisturizer

k i only shower once a week but i think i need to start washing my face daily because the oilyness of my nose seems to make my glasses slip and i'm constantly having to push them back up, it's very annoying

what's an easy, cheap, and pain free product i buy to quickly wash my face with in the sink to get rid of all this face-oil?

>> No.17985550

>>17985375
No, it does not. Check the pic in >>17985162
Sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) takes moisture from water. Water is the main ingredient of hydroboost gel (it is mentioned first on ingredients list, hence why its the biggest part of product). You don't need anything else. It is a complete product on its own. If it wasn't, Neutrogena would have specified that in usage instructions. They can be found here: https://www.neutrogena.com/products/skincare/neutrogena-hydro-boost-water-gel-with-hyaluronic-acid/6811047.html
They do not say anything to put another moisturizer on top

If you check hydroboost SERUM on the other hand, they specifically say to follow it up with a moisturizer.

Anybody wanna shill me their favorite AHA and sunscreen? I'm turning 30 this year, wanna start using an AHA more to hopefully stave off any issues and maybe promote my skin health a bit. I have normal skin, maybe a hair dry.

Believe the best routine then basically turns into
>night
wash face with cleanser
use AHA
moisturizer
>wake up
wipe face down with some water
apply sunscreen

Right?

Can accutane cause hair loss? I read on reddit some guy said he went bald from it. Another said he has intestinal issues and depression. My skin is not severe acne but I occasionally get large cysts on my chin/below the mouth area and it just bums me out and is annoying. I'm 27 and still dealing with this... When I don't have a big cyst I'd classify my acne as mild. Should I take accutane or not?

I did and found one post where someone has dry skin and hydroboost is not enough so he applies another moisturizer. Problem is, oil free (or light) moisturizers are not designed for a dry skin. They can help but it is just not enough. That person simply mismatched their skin type and moisturizer. Also I just don't see why would anyone buy a moisturizer that requires another moisturizer.
>so what should I use?
State your skin type
>what would be better for antiaging
Personally I would not bother much with hyaluronic acid. I don't think it has long term benefits. Helps other active ingredients to slightly better penetrate and makes your skin plump short term but that's mostly it I think. It is overrated and even these guys says so https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpfuksjS7LA

It caused severe intestinal issues for me, I still have extremely dry skin 5 years later, and I can no longer see at night. When I was on it I had random bouts of depression and joint/muscle pain so bad that I had to stop exercising for six months. Also killed my sex drive.

I highly recommend you exhaust all options and think it over well. If your acne is not SEVERE... I would not take accutane! I have started getting breakouts again too so there's no guarantee your acne will be gone forever like many people proclaim.

How good are smoothies for your beauty? I'm making a homemade smoothie every day (just fruit, no other ingredients). I'll drink them for the next 3 months and I hope to look glowing by then. Does it work? Realistically what will my results be? I want angelic skin. My skin is already clear and everything, so I just want to glow and look ethereal.
Any specific fruits I should add that are really good for health/beauty?

You already use best anti-aging stuff which is retinoid (differin) and sunscreen. There are also peptides and vitamin C but since you are on a budget I would not bother with them.
Cleanser is great.
For a heavier moisturizer personally I don't really know many, sorry. The only heavy one I used is LRP cicaplast baume b5+ which is not really cheap and people use it to slug with I think.
Maybe try these youtube channels and see what they recommend, not necessarily these vids (picked those at random)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph0tBLZcnas
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hl9q_802xxg
There was also some anon recommending Cosrx ultimate nourishing rice mask for PM moisturizer

Also watch a few general vids about skincare like this, so you will learn ingredients and to choose better products for your skin
Your routine
AM
Cerave cleanser (optional, you can use just water alone)
Hydroboost
LRP sunscreen

PM
Cerave cleanser
Differin gel
Heavier moisturizer
Slug (optional or on days without Differin)

If you ever get any spare cash, another thing to look into are exfoliators, specifically lactic acid is good for dry skin. This will help with skin texture acne, a bit anti-aging too
Good luck anon

Avocado and collagen to make your skin look good. I’d say strawberries and watermelon are pretty good as they’re very low carbohydrate but high in vitamins. Low sugar is best. Fruit should just be part of your general diet, you can’t really mainline it.

Aha, Neutrogena Skin Perfecting Liquid Face Exfoliant i used the dry skin version but the normal skin version is basically the same, it says to use it daily but use it as you feel is appropriate, i typically do every other day or every third day
Sunscreen something Japanese. I use skin aqua uv super moisture gel, buy it on Amazon or ebay.

For me its the dove sensitive skin (unscented) bars. I don't like their bodywashes tho.
The stuf you are currently using is about as mild as it gets untill you go to the oil based washes like Bioderma Atoderm.
If you are still having issues with dry skin or want your skin to be softer i would suggest covering your body in a thin layer of lotion a few times a week while you are still damp from the shower. Ive been using aveno tone & texture daily moisturizing lotion and fucking love it. It makes my skin super smooth and soft. If you want a really light lotion because you are concered about feeling greasy then you could try aveno sheer hydration daily moisturizing lotion instead.
