Autist completely new to wearing frags and I just bought 15 samples off Scent Decant to try before I have an important meetup and dinner in feb with an old summer fling from 6 years ago. Want to wear something sexy and seductive and also masculine. I'm also looking for an everyday scent for when I move back out to Santa Cruz this summer and try to become more /fa/. Here are the samples I got, I will rate them all once the package arrives. Give me more ideas for scents I should try. Looking for aquatic and woody/pine scents for everyday wear.

Btw, it’s much different than Fathom, but damn Acrasia is so good. I see people bitch about Jasmine so often but holy shit I love it, and Acrasia has this great opening and a faint Iron Duke dry down. So good.
It wasn’t until like a month ago when I re-read one of the OP’s Pastebins (nested within a sub Pastebin) that I realized Jasmine is the bubblegum sweet smell in some perfumes.
ELDO discovery set taught me that rose is the scent of Vicks VapoRub.

>MAB Ganymede
Smells like chrome. Like taking a new laptop out of the box. Also a bit like a dentist’s office, yes. It is growing on me as I sniff it more. Seems linear and strong. Super, super unique. Will probably snatch a bottle and then barely ever use it. Definitely a pleb filter type of scent.

>PDM Pegasus
I don’t like this. Smells like a rotten girly dior hypnotic poison clone mixed with cheap fougere. I love the smell of amaretto and even I don’t like this almond accord. Pass.

>PDM Greenley
It is fine. Not worth their asking price at all. Comes across as herbal and clean. Fruity in the background. Smells a bit 90s. I’d wear it in the spring if I had a bottle.

>> No.17954027

continued
>Initio Rehab
Opens with vanilla and florals. Turns into Spicebomb in a few minutes. It is good. I already have OG Spicebomb so owning this would be redundant. Also I kind of like the more pungent opening of Snicebomb.

>Diptyque Eau de Minthe
The opening has nice mint but unfortunately fades much faster than I anticipated on paper. Then it becomes like Drakkar Noir. Would be redundant to own this personally. But I enjoy the overall profile. Fine.

>CDG 2
This is so good for summer. It is hard to place exactly what this smells like for me but I love it. Sparkling and refreshing but also calming and comforting? This is a damn near masterpiece for summer perfumery. Unisex. Buying a bottle. I think it lists ink which may be the unique smell I’m picking up.

>ELDO The Ghost in the Shell
Unsweetened milk tea. Some nice white florals. Very zen. I could see a guy pulling this off but I do think it better suits my gf. It is unisex. It is classy and elegant. I actually like this a lot. Understated but crafted very well. Highly recommend this one for someone who just wants to smell clean.

Based and correct, because that's what it is. An attempt at making Hypnotic Poison into a "unisex" fragrance, powered by the world's most expensive clone house. Someone laughed at me a few threads back when I said that, but that's what it is.

Didn't know I had an allergy to this until just now. Guess these are both a total wash for me.

Do you all have any suggestions for "Blue" style scents like Dylan that don't have any ambroxan at all?

Anyone else kinda “found their niche” and winding down on the desire to sample new stuff? I’ve got an (admittedly “boring” on paper) collection of 50-100mL bottles and, after sampling tons and tons of designer and low-level niche stuff, I’m pretty satisfied for the moment.

My collection:
>Dior Homme 2020
>Dior Homme Sport 2021
>Bleu de Chanel Parfum
>Gucci Guilty PH EDP (shout out OP)
>Bois Imperial
>Molecule 01 + Ginger
>MM Replica At the Barber’s

>travel size of Azzaro Chrome Sport
>travel size Goldfield & Banks Bohemian Lime
>200mL Drakkar Noir (2010 bottle, gift from mother-in-law that she “just had lying around”, I actually like it but only wear 1-2 sprays to work sometimes)

Only thing on my wishlist at the moment: MM Replica Under the Lemon Trees.

>The brand elected to use a B-list formula for a fresh fragrance that was rumored to be everything from a cancelled Aramis by Estée Lauder (1965) summer flanker, to a new Lauder for Men fresh flanker (justifying the repurposed bottle), to an unused fragrance formula for a scent by Tommy Hilfiger (who Lauder made fragrances for back then), to finally an unused alternative formula for Beyond Paradise for Men by Estée Lauder (2004). That last one I find highly unlikely as there is nothing remotely tropical or “paradise” about what’s in the Donald Trump bottle, but I digress. What I do know is Anne Buzantian created this scent, and she is one-half the team alongside Alberto Morillas that created Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger (1994), so her track record with men’s fragrance is proven. What she created here is a weird hybrid between an aquatic and a citrus aromatic chypre. The top has citrus, mint, and basil, yet also cucumber notes and massive doses of calone-1951 with dihydromyrcenol. The heart similarly meshes together disparate elements like hedione, coriander, rose, and an unctuous clary sage, while the base marries vetiver, cedar, oakmoss, timberol, cashmeran, ambroxan with other sheer musks. It’s hard to tell where the aquatic ends and the chypre begins, although all told it smells very much like a 2004 freshie for someone a bit too mature for an overly fruity ozonic musk like what was blowing up malls back then. This is a clever and enjoyable scent, and the stuff in this fake Lauder for Men bottle is really good, easily substituting for Polo Blue by Ralph Lauren (2002) as many claim, even if it doesn’t smell all that similar to it; I just get “formal” vibes from this in the same way, and Polo Blue is the only other “formal” aquatic I could see appropriately dressed up in a tie. Performance is likewise very good for a freshie. Anne Buzantian did a great job.
sounds good

Just got samples of La Nuit de L Homme, Fahrenheit, By The Fireplace and Jazz Club. I've tested all but the last one and god damn.
YSL I was told was supposed to be super "hot" or attractive or whatever, it has 0 projection and smells like shower gel, huge scam.
Fahrenheit doesn't smell like gasoline at all, just like a mature shower gel, very light projection.
By this point I got pretty upset with the main stream brands and was hoping for repica to save the day, and my god it did.
Fireplace smells so strange, I can't stop sniffing, it's somehow very sweet wood, after the last two I expected terrible performance, so I sprayed two times which apparently was too much. I like it, never smelled something close to that, even though I've heard it's very overused.
I probably should completely ignore the big houses from here on out, right?

>> No.17954848

>I probably should completely ignore the big houses from here on out
no. you can ignore YSL because they've gone to shit. but Dior still has some good shit and they are more serious about being in-house and thoughtful with their releases than brands like YSL and Margiela, which are both just fronts for L'Oreal, really
the Fahrenheit DNA seems common now because it got so popular, but it was a pretty daring release back in the day

it may be that your taste just goes towards sweeter, richer fragrances. from Dior you could try Dior Homme Intense / Parfum, Eau Sauvage Parfum (the one in the green bottle). from Chanel, something like Egoiste. from niche brands, try ELDO Fat Electrician and Jovoy Psychedelique

what do you mean "big houses"? replica is a big house, owned by otb group. also fireplace doesn't smell strange, you just don't get outside a lot. it smells like burnt marshmallows. diabetically sweet. i guess it's a great and "new" smell for people who have never smelled that because they didn't have a childhood (or were raised by a screen).
also, good job using your sample size of 3 to deduce that all "big houses" must be shit. yes, you should avoid big houses, the best designer fragrances just aren't for you. you should stick to smaller houses. pdm layton is a great and supersweet fragrance, kilian angels share is great and supersweet from a small house, maybe something like that would be to your liking. also don't come back.

Is it normal for colognes to change a little after time? I’ve been away from my collection for about six months due to work, and coming back, a few of them seem to have a few notes now stronger than previous, and some added strength. They’ve been in a cool, dark box for all of this time. So it’s not sunlight or moisture.

I stopped wearing NYI after I bought Lalique Lion as they shared notes but Lion seemed more entry level for my office job. GIT is nice for a party or night out, love the warmth but I won't support Creed pricing. CdG2 I will probably buy a bottle of for spring, unless I find something better before then. Interested in Rogue Perfumes (since they are shilled ITT hard) but don't really need more takes on a fougere.
I am also somewhat curious to try out more EdT. I default on EDP for (what i assume is) better longevity but I'm sure some EdT are works of art that only last 3 hours.

Very normal. Time alone will have an effect on any fragrance, to what degree depends on the frag. While protecting them from light and temp changes help reduce this, you’ll still get some degree of change because of the air in the bottle (assuming it has been used).

The biggest factor though is actually not the frag changing, but you. Not in the sense of your nose like >>17955147 said, although that can certainly happen to, but more so in regard to skin chemistry (which in itself is affected by diet), air quality, etc. etc. frags can vary -wildly- from person to person, it would be foolish to think they wouldn’t change on a singular person as well over time.

Habit rouge is nice. The edc>edp>edt. Guerlain heritage is better than Lalique lion and nyi. Tom ford black orchid is similar to the classic Guerlain shalimar but modernized a bit. Shalimar is less expensive and better. Davidoff cool water is the same nose as green Irish tweed. They are also similar. The vintage forumjaltions of cool water are much better quality than today. That is also true with all Guerlain frags.

I’ll at least be someone who won’t insult your sensibilities. You do you, enjoy what you like.

I will say though, Rogue is great because 1) It’s a high quality niche brand, and in this case I specify niche more because it’s a personal business 2) Performance is generally pretty good on his stuff 3) The price point is fantastic for the quality you’re getting.
All those things combined make me want to support him as business and hopefully see it (continue to) flourish.

As for the EdT vs EdP thing, it’s still true in some cases, and I have no doubt that 30 to 40+ years ago (fuck I hate reminding myself Y2K was 24 years ago) it was much more about concentration, but now-a-days it’s merely a marketing technique.
Brands release an original fragrance, then a few years later they release the EdP which is slightly similar (flanker) but is still a different scent, this also labels the original as EdT even though it was never called that. Then a few years after THAT you release the parfum, or “intense” version which is -also- similar, but basically its own scent. Finally, the most recent progression, if the market isn’t burnt out and still likes it, you release the “elixir” version which again doesn’t require added longevity or projection, it merely a change in scent profile a 3rd time.

Also, anything that lasts less than 6 hours -above- skin scent level, isn’t a work of art.

With how expensive both Louis Vuitton and Creed are, I really recommend buying a decant of them first.

You have a shitty taste. Keep Varvatos and pillow protectors and put the rest with the garbage.

Luckily, I ordered 4 more vials, Le 3ème Homme among them. Been wearing it 4 days and I just ordered a full bottle. Shit is super complex and a far superior alternative of Pour Monsieur.
Thanks you, I guess.

3eme homme is the best caron, no doubt. i wasn't into yatagan, either, mostly because i don't want to smell like leather. always best to trust your own nose.

Glad to read I'm not alone :) Other favorite I also tested was Vétiver Infini. I would say it's like if Guerlain Vetiver was made in the current decade. It is unfortunate that, at 135€/30ml, is out of my reach.
