Just copped this 100% merino wool IRA approved Aran sweater for 50 bucks new (don't mind the mannequin huge scrotum).

>> No.17923397

>>17923390
not only about comfort which many times is still a factor. you shouldn't do it beacuse
1)sweaters are simply not designed for that, unless it's those very thin "sweater" that aren't actual sweaters. Like anon said, you could wear a jacked with nothing under it, but you are not supposed to, it's not meant to be worn like that
2) you will sweat (yeas, even in the cold) in it, and the only way to get the sweat out of it is by washing it. While you can do it if you spill something onto it or stain it, you should never wash a sweater if you can avoid it. Even the greatest 100% fine merino sweater will shrink at even mild temperatures, and in all sort of places, you will fuck up its sizing in all its part, and you can hardly go back after you do so, the wool fibres simply curl and shorten. Bring it to a specialised place if you need it washed.

I paid full price for Heimat. Decent wool, gets pretty soft but comes quite bristly.
IM I got for 150 on sale, the crewneck. I didn't have the money, but the discount was so insane that I had to get it. Defiantly worth it if you can get it on sale, but totally overpriced otherwise. (That is, If you're trying to get your money's worth, instead of getting something you want because you want it. That's a valid reason, too, IMO.)
But, yeah, Heimat is more of a submariner, naval, and continental style. It's very neat, while IM is just classic Irish worker, artisanal, somewhat niche, selective about wool and weave. Heimat just takes some sheep's wool, a kilo of it, that'll keep you warm no matter what wool it is, and has that made with the same kind of mill Merz B Schwanen use.
A 275 Euro Heimat sheeps wool sweater would be 450-500 in Merino just by materials alone and Inis Meain would take 600 for that+15 Euros shipping.

I mean, I'd just recommend you get one Aran, oen IM, on Heimat and see which one you like best desu. I was surprised at how good IM was. I thought it was overhyped. They're very good. Surprisingly insulating and warm given the 600, 700ish grams for a 30/70 cash/merino crewneck?

try to match Zegna fabrics. try to get that wool, try to knit it on that level. the only way you can get stuff cheap is by using cheap yet very killed labour and sourcing directly from a farm.
that doesn't even consider the time you would need to spend to get this good.
I bought a sewing machine and really tried to make a good coat because I couldn't afford a 1,5k coat up to my specs or buy vintage overpriced bullshit. I gave up a third of the way through, took the cost of the fabrics and returned the machine because I realized I wouldn't get good enough and I'd just waste my time. I'd have to make a dozen coats to make it worth it. I need to make a dozen sweaters to make it worth it. And even then, you have an etsy shop's worth of good copies of what you actually wanted. That is IFF you do get that good that fast. I realized I'd be better off just getting a job again and working a couple of days to buy it instead.

I've got myself Chamula Fair Isle couple years ago. They're pricey but has nice "vintage" fit which goes well with high rise trousers. Personally not a fan of how boxy and stretched a lot of modern sweaters are. Something like >>17923301 looks straight up sloppy to me. What is the solution to wearing nice sweaters while being very sensitive to wool? I can tolerate thin merino wool sweaters and obvious 100% cotton sweaters and also synethic sweaters. I have a 60% Acrylic, 30% Nylon, 8% Wool, 2% Spandex "souffle" sweater from uniqlo but I'm returning it, not a fan of the synthetic feeling. I have picrel, it's a 60% merino 40% nylon sweater from J.crew and I can only tolerate it sometimes usually with a long sleeve under it. I don't want to have to wear a long sleeve. I've tried cashmere and I love it but good cashmere sweaters are way too expensive and I haven't found any at the thrifts. I've heard of alpaca too but haven't tried it.
