I think this is the difference between Omega fans and Rolex fans. Rolex fans demand their watch be perfect. Omega fans like the design and are willing to accept all sorts of flaws like bad bracelets, poorly chosen case dimensions, etc.
Of course, I'm sure if an Omega cost what a Rolex did, the story would be different.

Omega sits right at that edge of almost being a good watch.

The case dimensions in the 90s were good. Their watches were generally quite thin. 90s Constellations were around 9mm. (They weren't good-looking, but they were thin.) Pierce Brosnan-era Bond Seamasters were 12mm.
But back then their bracelets were pin-and-sleeve shit, though, and the case finishing was poor.

Now, they're way too thick. There's no reason the Seamaster has to be 14mm thick, or the Planet Ocean 16mm thick!

For me, it's their fundamental dishonesty that turns me off Omega. Go to any other comparable brand's factory, Rolex, JLC, Tudor, etc. and they'll give you a tour. They'll show you where the parts are made, you see the machines, and if they aren't made on-site, will tell you who makes them.
JLC manufactures their own movements. Rolex machines their own cases.
Omega pretends that they're a manufacture just like those real brands.

No one has ever seen the Omega factory, though. No one has seen them make their cases, dials, movements.

The reality is that Omega is closer to being a microbrand than a manufacture.
They get cases and dials made from one of Swatch's suppliers, the same suppliers that make Tissot cases.
They get their movements made from Swatch's ETA division, the same division that makes Hamilton movements.

We don't even know if Omega even does final assembly. The only thing we know that Omega actually does is marketing. "Bond! The Olympics! The Moon!"

Do people generally have good luck with paganis? I got one to see what they're like and it's okay but it has some weird fucked up threading on one of the bracelet links that has made 2 of the links inseparable and fucked up threading on the crown that allows it to spin forever without snugging down and that makes me doubt it's water resistant.

I'm not really into dive watches, but I know the new Speedmaster is thinner than the previous model with the updated co-axial movement they put in. I wouldn't be surprised if the next models of dive watches are made thinner too. Oversized watches were in style for a while, and now watches are gradually getting more small and refined. The new line of Aqua Terras that Omega released this year come in 34mm and 38mm, the older ones came in 38mm and 41mm. Smaller watches are becoming more trendy.

Yup. Rolex won't because it'll admit defeat. The 32xx movements are in the subs, sds, gmts, etc...almost their whole lineup. So far it's a crapshoot which watch fails first. Furthermore, when the watches are serviced, there is no guarantee that when the movement is reassembled that it works. When that fails, Rolex starts replacing parts one by one until the thing functions as it should. Pretty shitty.

Furthermore, you can put two 32xx movements side by side and one will be perfect and the other one will shit the bed a week later for no reason. They're a gamble at best, which is why the Rolex forums are so full of angst.

As I said, if it's under the 5 year warranty. If it's out of warrant, you pay out of pocket. If Rolex admitted the design flaw, then customers would want theirs serviced for free outside of the warranty period. Not that Rolex would do that, but that's why it's a bad move to admit the design flaw.

Given that some customers have had repeat servicing problems with their Rolexes, the problem is a serious one IF it presents itself in the watch. If not, then there is nothing to worry about.

You can still get one. Just read up on the problems of the 32xx movement. There are hundreds of pages on different forums, with more than enough owners attesting that their own Rolex is working perfectly. You may be fine and get a good one, just do your research before pulling the trigger. Any time a new movement is put out by a company, there is a teething period which shakes out the flaws. In this case, the flaw is catastrophic, but the cause is unknown and the frequency of the problem in new watches is likewise unpredictable. If you buy one, get a timographer and check the amplitude weekly. If it stays in a good zone, you're fine. Anyway, it's a Rolex; it will always be desirable, even if the movement is flawed.

Every single part of a Rolex originated from Switzerland, 0% of a Rolex is made in China. Unfortunately because of this they're always going to have low supply in their dealers.

Swatch Group watches on the other hand has various parts made in China but as long as over 50% is made in Switzerland the title 'Swiss Made' can be retained.

Yes you can use a bezel for the third timezone. Not in that watch though, it has 2. You set the GMT time alongside all the other hands as one usually would set time, and then you pull the crown to another position where you set the local hour hand completely separately from the rest.

nope, the new rules are even more lax. to be marked Swiss made, a watch now has to meet the requirement of minimum 60% of "Swiss value".
the calculation of "Swiss value" includes R&D, certification and labour costs. the only remaining hard requirement is that the watch should be assembled and inspected in Switzerland.

Most people don't set their GMTs like this and, instead, just have the GMT hand always set to either their home time or to a timezone that they refer to regularly (like if they have business or family in another country.)

There are traveler's watches or hometime watches that are usually more useful to travelers. GMT watches were developed for transcontinental pilots. It's probably one of the least useful complications for the average person and, worse still, you lose the quickset date functionality.

Caller GMT watches (where the GMT hand is the one that is independently adjustable) are probably more useful for average people, but they are less useful to pilots.

Eh, in some lights the dial does sometimes remind me of that weird glittery rubber on cheap sex toys at Spencer's gifts. I do think the dial is the weakest part of the watch. But I find the lighter brown strap kinda changes the contrast and context of it a bit.
