I’ve started buying tactical brands instead of outdoor brands. It’s the same stuff but higher quality and cheaper, often without any logos as well. Premium hunting brands are better than outdoor brands as well, but they’re usually more expensive. For the latter, I’m thinking more of stuff like Sitka and Kuiu than the stuff you can get at Wal-Mart.

I haven't seen anyone shitting on Arcteryx, I have seen some hate about them moving all their production to China which does fucking suck. I had a friend who worked there and he'd set me up with their staff discount so my wardrobe is probably 40% Arcteryx I got for 60-70% off retail like 3 years ago.

Overall I'm really happy with the quality and comfort and as an actual alpine climber the Alpha SV really does feel like an indestructible bunker against weather but I've only used it for two seasons.

It's a shell, a really really good shell so expect waterproofing and windproofing but it provides 0 warmth which you seem to understand. The shells are good at literally any temp they're exclusively for wind and rain protection. I've worn mine effectively in -20 degree blizzards and 60 degree rainstorms, it is good at weather protection at any temp.

If you're not climbing in it then just get the Beta, the Alpha SV is the most 'heavy-duty' but it's got no convenient hand pockets because it's designed for wear with a harness. If you are specifically looking for a city hardshell then yes get a Beta-LT, it's really expensive but they're fantastic and a lot of women recognize it as a status brand. I haven't had any of the delamination issues people online complain about and I wear this shit harder than 95% of people who buy it.

There's this store called REI and it distributes these meme brands to people like Cotopaxi and Arc'teryx, drawstring shorts for $120, mostly. There's also an Arc'teryx flagship not far from the REI flagship and I've never seen anyone but tourists from flyover country wear this; Fjalraven. The long green field jacket some light blue jeans and hiking boots or Chelsea boots with a beanie and a sweater that's the we just got to Seattle uniform. Then there's some trannies in vegan leather skirts, coke bottle glasses fogged up by their double masks, male fat distribution exploding out the bottom of their corsets, male feet barely contained by their Demonias. Asian tourists by the bus load, all in matching white Canada Down puffer parkas.

Gorpcore came around because of the resurgence of fleece jackets (partly because of Shia's influence), and it was a trend taken too far.

No one actually thinks these jackets look cool, they just look "different" (no longer true).

Trends that don't actually make people look good (emphasize a nice body) have an expiration date.

Coming from a really fat megacity in the south we only know of college aged people from Washington who are upper middle class and pale brunettes with curly hair, very pretty. Everyone where I'm from makes a big deal of lifting weights or is just fat as hell. No in between.


North of Seattle everyone is in shape, well bred, very upper middle class physiognomy. South of Seattle everyone is an opiate addicted subhuman in a cigarette car with a mixed child out of wedlock and looks 20 years older than they are, still listening to pop punk. In Seattle it's mostly people styling themselves in a sexless unattractive way for social status. Men in their late 20's wearing sneakers and slim chinos, patchy beard doing nothing to hide their recessed chin. Women in their late 30's without kids or husbands, dressed as Meiji Era Samurai in platform chelsea boots, black bobs, some upscale service industry or make-work job and as many plants as can fit in their studio apartment, still doing nothing to relieve their existential dread.

I'd say southwesterners are probably the ugliest people I've seen on average but it could be environmental rather than a genetic predisposition to being meth addicts that are somehow still fat.

Agreed with everything else you said, but not sure about this. Only one woman has complimented me on my Arc jacket and she happened to have some Arc pieces herself. For the most part, it seems that men recognize the brand more than women.

If you want the best performing cold weather gear and budget isn't a concern I'd always go with Carinthia. I have tried most of the popular/known brands at one point or another and Carinthia has satisfied me the most.

My buddy got his Alpha replaced for free after an armpit rip and he bought it for 12 bucks at Goodwill. I get free repairs on my 13 year old Khuno parka cause I live near a service center. tl;dr if you can get their outerwear for cheap it's worth it cause you get good support from them to make it last a while
