thats on the 602m though and it does look like they added some length to maybe keep the same tapering as the regular 602

As someone who owns Whites boots from back before they nearly doubled in price, I wouldn't get a pair today. They're not worth that price, not even close.
Most expensive boot I ever bought was the Alden Indy for 575 and even then I knew I was overpaying but I really loved the style so paid for it anyway
These boots are simply not worth it. Especially knowing that the designs and build haven't changed at all since they did cost 450 so you aren't get more or better for the money, you're just paying more

Veg tan leather does get dry out if they come into contact with water. It also can shrink under certain conditions.
This is why heel edge is waxed to prevent water penetration. You have to care for the heel and edge alongside with the upper. Just wax them regularly.
This is also why leather like JR (now Kilger) is superior. The tight tannage is water resistance. Most typical leather for heel and sole, like what the PNW guys are only made to be hard, not weather resistance.

I have to admit something.

I own a pair of Carmina black captoe oxfords and they are too small for my shoes.
It hurts a bit to wear them, but since I only wear them a few times a year I put up with it.

But the shoes being too small means they look fucking perfect. There is no excess leather, no weird creasing, the vamp doesn't collapse on my feet. It looks crisp as fuck.
So maybe ideal for this kind of shoe, as much as I hate to admit it.

More often than not they will just put the metal stamps that have the various pattern pieces and put them over the leather and then under a big press and their only priority is to minimize the amount of wasted leather.

This goes for most of the let's say "budget" quality makers like Carmina etc.

For mass produced shoes (fashion brands etc) that at least use real leather they will actually put an entire stack of leathers under the press and cut the same patterns out of them from top to bottom. Most likely not a single human eyeball has seen the leathers in the stack before they are cut.

But there's no real way to verify this, leather is weird, it creases good or badly based on leather thickness, foot shape, people buying wrong size shoes, or just "it is what it is".

I own a pair of Carmina oxfords in black boxcalf and I''ve seen vids of Carmina factory workers and it's just 20 or so grandmas trying to get as many shoe pieces as possible out of the leather. But the shoes crease excellently because they are too small for me so the vamp is always taut.

Unless you go bespoke I don't think it's possible to have the right shoe size and not end up with some excess leather somewhere.

For me I have wide feet but the outside of my foot tapers down a lot so there's always a gap there in the vamp.
I've seen a photo of a bespoke G&G oxford and it had a super aggressive taper towards the sides so I guess that's what it takes (like $6,000? idk)
