Fades are OK if done by somebody competent.
Too many hacks trying to go from skin to 3"+ of hair on top in 1/2" of distance that grows out like a fucking mushroom or butchering the top by either tapering too much or too little towards the crown so they can be "precise" about their fucking hyped-up hair chamfer.
If you have longer hair there is no way to do a fade that lasts more than three days. If you grow more than 4-6" on top the price of admission is going to a salon with stylists adept at cutting women's hair (which you have decided to wear).

Fades are good, but the length of fade you get should depend on what your head shape is. Most of the shitty infographics telling you what haircut to get based off your head shape are made by neanderthals with nothing of substance to share. OP's pic shows a High Skin fade, which is popular with MMA folk and brits alike for some strange reason. IMO something like a low taper suits most guys better, and its pretty easy to learn how to do it yourself.
