I've just been to a store that sells Ralph Lauren and I really liked this dark green button down, but when I tried it on it looked like I was selling christmas stuff.
Is it the shirt itself, the combination of dark green and the red socks or am I retarded?

>> No.17833456

UK based: what’s the best ‘beater’ loafer?

>>17834506

>> No.17834615

>>17833695
Good style, very comfortable, decent materials, great price (especially on sale). The downside, at least on my pair, has been poor construction with a glued sole. Not that I expect more for $45, but mine came unglued and I just stuck it back with Shoe Goo. When I bought that pair, a few friends also bought shoes in the same store so we could take advantage of a BOGO sale, and as far as I know none of them had any problems, so it's probably a rare issue. Still, it's an issue and I wouldn't get Clarks expecting them to hold up really well for a long time.

That said, I've taken mine hiking on accident, six miles on dirt trails, they were fine. Despite the bad QC on my pair I'd still get another pair again.

Aside from the obvious omnipresent thrifting rec, if you want to put them through the wringer I'd just buy a pair of weejuns. Sure, the quality's in the shitter relative to 1980, but that just makes it less of a problem to chew them up and spit them out.

A step up in quality/price would be Meermin loafers, the leather's decent but they're not so expensive you have to feel bad if they get fucked up. The main thing if you do this is to make sure to get whatever they're calling their rounded toe last these days, they're spics and think loafs should be pointy for some reason, which will make you look like a pointy shoed spic if you buy the wrong item.

It's a solid casual summer/boat fit (and yes, shorten the sleeves), but I wouldn't wear it anywhere outside of really casual summer situations, the cotton is just too noticeable and looks weird for most use cases. It's not that it's bad even, it's just that this is a type of fit for situations where most normies now wear a t-shirt, cargo shorts and crocs. How do you guys get over the fear of being mugged?

I don't even live in all that bad of a neighbourhood, but whenever I walk around outside dressed nicely I get afraid that any even remotely shifty looking dude is going to jump me thinking I have loads of money on me.
And before you suggest carrying a gun, I live in England unfortunately.
While I'm not very strong, I don't believe becoming any stronger will make a difference. A mugger relies on being quick and aggressive and also probably with the aid of 3-4 other guys, it doesn't matter who you are, if you are to chosen to be mugged you shall be mugged.

hey /ivy/, I forgot you existed for a moment.
I got a promotion. My old clothes look like regular beat clothes you would see on a college aged STEM graduate working in a non-office environment. I'm probably expected to wear something resembling real clothes now. I have slacks, oxfords, ties optional so I'll skip those unless people think it completes the look, one thing I'm missing are shoes. I typically frequent the boot thread because the nature of my job had me outdoors and good things that last outdoors was a plus, but now I probably need some good things that fit indoors, too. Driving loafers are disposable just based on their construction. They’d be fine for light office work (as long as you aren’t walking vast distances to and from) but I’d get more classic penny loafers to start. Just double check the actual size of it, some of the Seiko tank-style watches are actually quite large. It might be fine for you but I remember when I was looking at these some time ago, some of the models were just too big and I wanted something pretty small. I even considered a women's model just because watches now are xbox huge and a current womens model is the size of a mens watch from many decades ago. But anyway it's a great looking watch, sure it's not a real Tank but it's nice anyway.

Just received some Rancourt loafers which look great, but my heel slips out and upward whenever I walk in them. They fit very snug up front so I don't think length / width is the issue. Tried thicker socks which only prevents major slippage, it still occurs and is very noticeable. Tried heel pad inserts but that didn't do shit. Tried doubling up on the inserts but still no luck. I think the issue is I have very arched feet and loafers seem to be for more flat-footed people. It looks like with loafers in general the space between the tongue of the shoe and heel is longer than most laced dress shoes, and the curvature of my foot appears to work in opposition to any way the loafer would help keep it stuck inside. Anything solutions you guys can think of or is it just a lost cause?

Some (or a lot) of heel slip is normal with new loafers while the sole is stiff but if your feet are actually coming out then they’re not going to work. Great watch for the price!
I’ve bought a golden 7N00-0AZ0 back in 2018, when I got my first job and I’m very happy with it. Dressy, works with many outfits and it’s cheap. Also the dial has a nice sunburst finish.
The original strap broke after 3-4 years of almost daily wear and the black stone on the crown broke off, when I bumped into my desk too hard.

SO I bought picrel from Spier & Mackay the other week. I got a size too small, so I returned it. So that's $46 deliver and tax, then £25 return post to Canada. That's like 60 quid in postage. Now it's fucking out of stock in my size. Just as well, as that would be another £36 postage if I were to buy it again.
LL Bean has the same style in blue but their sizing is apparently all over the place. I can't go through this rigmarole again.

Does anyone have thoughts on this outfit? Cords, sneakers (I was at the beach), and a light blue linen shirt. It looks white from the camera flash and I guess the details of the shirt blew out. I'm probably going to get a pair of white CVOs to replace those sneakers.

Thanks! the cords are just from the Gap. Thanks for the thoughts. I was on the same boat as you but we might be overthinking it, to 90% of people a sport jacket is a formal or semi formal thing and a type of cloth does not really matter in the grand scheme of things.
It mattered more before where you had people rocking casual suits, but in today's world, where you are thought of as overdressed when you show up in a shirt, trousers and classic shoes I don't think it matters as much.
I've also ordered the same exact blazer in
13 oz linen as to see which one drapes better, wanted the one in mock leno wool but its sold out in my size unfortunately. Natalino really did a great job on these db sport coats imo, very strong and sharp lapels, also a possibility to button at the middle or at the lower button. That tie knot is atrocious.
You need to get a shirt that fits properly so that you can comfortable button the top button.
You need to tie your tie tighter than that so it looks like it's actually tied and not just losely folded

Oh i know that i just did not care at the moment because i wanted to open the top button since i hadnt shaved and my beard itches.

Definitely. Trad, but not ivy/prep. Conversely wearing blue striped shirts with a suit isn't trad, but it is prep.

Fur is trad, but as Anon says, your tie knot is an abomination. Don't go outdoors like that.

Beanies are hard to pull off if you ask me. They're definitely neo-prep, though, look through any Drake's or PRL catalogue and you'll see a ton.

I hate the way beanies look but i dont live where it gets cold enough to justify an insulating hat like that. Maybe a hunting style hat could work if you need the warmth.
