My f91 strap broke yesterday, the watch is still going strong. Anyone have any experience with the $1.5 ones off ali or am I better off buying a new watch since they are still only $15 new?

Fair enough, this watch has been going strong almost 5 years now before the strap failure. Probably the replacement would last forever if I remove the battery. Then in 5 more years I can get another etc and have 3 watches before I die.

I was too, I haven't ordered a replacement yet. Just wearing one of my nicer watches for work now until I sort this strap thing out. I know I can opt for a better quality band but it feels silly to me to spend more on a band than a new watch would cost me. Don't want to straight make one since I don't have any materials on hand and don't want to look homeless with my terrorist watch. If the $1.5 ones feel fine on skin and don't fall apart in a week they would be a great replacement. Only OEM bands I can find are aftermarket and want nearly as much as a fresh watch from CASIO.

A NATO strap is a popular alternative i think, perhaps you should try that.

I think you kinda missed my point of having the strap being nearly as much as a new watch. I might end up just going the NATO route that many have suggested in the past. Though now I am thinkning if I get a brand new one then I can meme oil fill it to change the color to match my new band haha.

>quit being whiny
I'd be less whiny if I didn't feel like I have to spend $1000+ to get a decent watch that doesn't look retarded on my wrist. So I'm only buying Speedmasters from now on. I have been collecting for 10 years, so I know what I like, nothing does it for me like a Speedy just based on how it looks.

I have 3 Speedmasters as it is 1861 / 3861 and a 1969. I'm now going to go for.a FOIS and Broad Arrow 3594.50, Will get a Cal.321 in time, waiting for the right one. Would love an Alaska Project, Tuesday and Ultra man after that in the long term.

Thoughts on this mindset? I just buying to collect, I will just be dallying my 3861. Also waiting for a Sub and 40mm Explorer from my AD, no rush if it happens it happens. Would daily Sub / 3861 and would like to try an Explorer.

I shouldn't judge, since I own 4 myself. I never thought I'd have 4, mind you...it just turned out that way. You should not make the mistake of not daily-ing the others...wear them as much as you can. A watch will only feel special to you if you've had experiences with it, so you might find that watches that are not worn will remain somewhat neutral or even replaceable in terms of feeling. All of your pics are fun, and while I have my own thoughts on the Ed White, having a cal 321 Speedy is a must if you want to have a Speedy collection of any kind.

Good luck!

Ball has been known to have turned away someone with an older model,<8yrs at the time, because they didn't have any spare parts.
They don't meticulously replace every tube; that's too tedious and labor intensive. Just replace the whole dial, bezel, hands etc.
Problem is that Ball's line up changes a lot every few years. If you buy one and it gets axed or changed dramatically you're fucked as far as tube replacements. By year 10 the decrease in luminosity would be noticeable. Even their basic "staples" have changed enough in <10yrs in terms of tube layout etc.

You don't buy a ball as a watch you shattered your sad porcelain pig in order to pay for, hoping it's a one watch for life or anything. You get a ball if you have so much disposable income that you can afford to drop a couple of thousand for a gimmick novelty like less wealthier people buy a $10 casio.
At least that's been my advice when peopole bring up this brand.

I owned it when it first came out, it's a good watch for the money and it has its own thing going for it history wise. If they could make it smaller (it's quite top heavy), mechanical with no date, id be very interested. I think a lot of guys get hung up on the "moon watch" thing. It's a the reason I looked up the watch to start like everyone else but I think the real reason people love the Speedmaster is because it's really good looking.

I hate fake patina too, the 3816 lume is sort of greenish and honestly it's borderline for me.

>>17821613
The 3816 were pretty small, it's more like a 40mm. If you have it on wrist look at it in the AD's mirror from a few meters away, that's the true size. 1 foot away from your eyes is distorted.

I had a 58, crown issues and misaligned bezel, my Tudor Chrono stopped. My friends GMT date went 2 times 6 months to get it fixed.

That model turnover is probably the most annoying thing about Ball. Every once in a while they put out something really unique and interesting like the watch movement with a bimetal thermometer in it, it was even in a tasteful case diameter, but they just don't fucking make it anymore. Now I don't think they sell a single model under 40mm diameter, they're all dinnerplate homages to watches from other brands.

They should at least pick a couple classic flagship models and stick with them.

nearly all casios have dedicated modding communities and plenty of guides. the best part is that just like watch itself, most the mods look snazzy as hell for dirt fucking cheap. color tinted displays are as easy as cutting a 50 cent sheet of plastic filter to size and slapping it on the display. if you're feeling fancy, you can print custom graphics onto the plastic too. there's plenty of sellers on etsy who make color-matched faceplates, gradient filters, and other parts. there's chinesium straps and bullbars all over amazon and aliexpress.

if you don't mind spending $100+ on a $20 watch, you can go with skxmods like >>17821826 said and DIY yourself a real premium digital watch. while skxmods sell pre-modded negative displays, it's stupid easy to do it yourself, it's literally just removing the polarizing filter with a razor and cutting your own to size, rotated 90 degrees as to invert the display.

in case you don't know what LCD stands for, it's literally liquid crystal display, which means light passes through it just fine. this means you can paint the plastic spacer behind the display with glow-in-the-dark pigments and it'll work just fine. additionally, the display has a reflective film on the back which is also removable and able to be swapped with mesh wire, holographic filters, and printed images which will display behind the watch face and give it various effects.

just got into modding casios myself a few days ago because it looks like a blast. have yet to do anything to mine but a glowmod is first on my hitlist. might post if it goes well.

I heard Omega ran out of replacement quartz movement for the bonds, as they get replace the movements. I bet there is some sort of of the shelf replacement movement you can use that a local watch maker could do. Don't buy the TAG, they prices have only went down, it will be a nothing watch in 10 years, the quartz 300m has 4 x in the last number of years for a reason.

Thoughts on Orient watches? Been thinking about picking up a Soon & Moon Automatic.

A bit unsure whether to go for "gold" and metallic.
