I have a couple watches that I'll wear for a couple weeks on end, then switch to something else. The exceptions are the really dressy watches that I'll wear for a specific event and then not wear for a few weeks until they're needed again.

I wish there were mid-range quality tools. I don't need high-end tools but it feels like the options are cheap chinese tools or professional swiss made tools. The cheap stuff gets the job done and some of it is a great value but it's hard to tell when paying more is worth it until you get to the standard tools that inspire confidence. How do I go about searching for (and buying in Australia) these straps? The silicone straps a watch I have came with are too short for me. Searching for curved straps turns up straps that have the ends curved but the spring bar is still straight. I'm thinking finding a local is my best bet, but all the shops I can find nearby are actual brand dealers or antique repairs.

My experience with vintage Soviet shitters hasn't been great, but my wife has a few of these and really likes them. The only one she's had issues with was a franken, but then she has another franken that runs insanely well. She's had unbelievably good luck with them across the board IMO.

I have a sealande rubber for my seamaster, I have the exact same model as you.

My personal trick for rubber straps on a desk diver is to add a deploy buckle, it gives the strap a nice lux touch with the versitility of rubber.

No, you don't want one of those early coaxials. They are the reason that the "you need to service it or it will explode" meme exists.

The 2500A and 2500B movements are very rare and were quickly discontinued. Most of the early coaxial Seamasters had 2500C movements, which were more reliable, but still had problems, namely excessive wear and sudden failure.

The 2500A, B, and C were based on Daniels' "extra-flat" or 2-level coaxial movement and it was not a well thought-out idea. The 2500D finally switched to the 3-level design and it has been reliable. The 2500D was not produced for long, though, before Omega finally replaced the whole thing with the ground-up 8500 series movements, which have been exceedingly reliable.

tl;dr: if you're going to buy an old coaxial, only get something with a 2500D, otherwise just get a Seamaster 300 with the ETA 2892-based caliber 1120 .

get a seiko tank. Looks pretty close to the real deal, no seconds hand so you can't see that it's a quartz. Got mine since 2018 and the gold plating holds up perfectly so far, only had to replace the strap. Also the only watch I ever got compliments on.

There were very few models that came with both a C or a D. As far as I know, only the first gen Planet Ocean and some of the very last Seamaster 300c's.
The easiest way to tell at a glance (without actually opening the watch up) is to look at the datewheel. The date font on the 2500D is the modern, pointy font. The 2500C is the older, blocky font. (Of course, that's not 100% reliable either, since some 2500C used the modern datewheel and a date wheel can be replaced during service.)

Without being able to open it up and confirm which it is, I'd never buy one.

i'd argue that the "sports watch" is the least significant, most normies cannot tell the difference between an OP, Day-Date, Datejust, Explorer 1 or Air King. You can call it a "dumbing down" of the dress watch with steel/rubber straps and integrated bracelets or a "dressing up" of the diver with the removal of the bezel and optional water resistance but it's objectively the worst category
