I have a sealande rubber for my seamaster, I have the exact same model as you.

My personal trick for rubber straps on a desk diver is to add a deploy buckle, it gives the strap a nice lux touch with the versitility of rubber.

https://www.strapcode.com/collections/deployant-buckle/products/parts-nt-acc-de-013p

I think a hardcore NDL strap like that one is just way too far off base for an Omega. That strap belongs on something like a Marathon, CWC or Seiko.

>Is this version of the seamaster still worth buying?
No, you don't want one of those early coaxials. They are the reason that the "you need to service it or it will explode" meme exists.

The 2500A and 2500B movements are very rare and were quickly discontinued. Most of the early coaxial Seamasters had 2500C movements, which were more reliable, but still had problems, namely excessive wear and sudden failure.

The 2500A, B, and C were based on Daniels' "extra-flat" or 2-level coaxial movement and it was not a well thought-out idea. The 2500D finally switched to the 3-level design and it has been reliable. The 2500D was not produced for long, though, before Omega finally replaced the whole thing with the ground-up 8500 series movements, which have been exceedingly reliable.

tl;dr: if you're going to buy an old coaxial, only get something with a 2500D, otherwise just get a Seamaster 300 with the ETA 2892-based caliber 1120 .

Could you really ever?

Poors of all color love to flex symbols of wealth. Rolex has been a symbol of wealth for decades. (And, yes, even their sports watches, back when they were used as such, were very much the premium option.)
So you can either convince Rolex to market their watches as being for people of humble means, or you can try and convince poor people to live humbly. Good luck with either.

>I suppose there's no simple way of telling whether a model has a 2500D as opposed to a C?
There were very few models that came with both a C or a D. As far as I know, only the first gen Planet Ocean and some of the very last Seamaster 300c's.
The easiest way to tell at a glance (without actually opening the watch up) is to look at the datewheel. The date font on the 2500D is the modern, pointy font. The 2500C is the older, blocky font. (Of course, that's not 100% reliable either, since some 2500C used the modern datewheel and a date wheel can be replaced during service.)

Without being able to open it up and confirm which it is, I'd never buy one.

You're 90% right.

With Planet Oceans, the modern date wheel 100% means 2500d movement.
With the SMPc, it's 50-50. They were using up the last of the 2500c they had in stock and just used the modern date wheels to line-up with the new designs in the Seamaster family.

Who won? Well, smartwatches won but which is the most significant traditional watch design/category? Which one would be missed the most if it suddenly disappeared? Not which one is your favorite, and lets not get hung up on definitions and examples. Use your preferred definition.

Personally I feel dive watches dwarf most watch categories. Yes, their popularity seems to have waned the last couple years but it's to be expected when everyone seems to have one and they are everywhere.

by sheer volume of units sold, the F91W, clones, and derivatives (like G-shocks) are probably the most significant purely whoreological instruments; there are a zillion kids, poorfags, and zoomers with a casio, ironman, or clone on their wrists.

second is divers, the 50 Fathoms/Submariner/Luminor were groundbreaking in their time and also significantly influenced every watch after (and arguably the GMT is a subset of the diver)

i personally think chronos (especially mechanical) are a useless complication in today's day and age but there was a time when they were necessary for racing, flying, scientific experimentation; I think they were probably the shortest lived relevance but not the worst complication

dress watches came first, putting pocket watches on straps and some of the early work from longines and cartier also directly created the field/flieger watch which is arguably its own category, and there is a lot more variety in dress watches than anywhere else

i'd argue that the "sports watch" is the least significant, most normies cannot tell the difference between an OP, Day-Date, Datejust, Explorer 1 or Air King. You can call it a "dumbing down" of the dress watch with steel/rubber straps and integrated bracelets or a "dressing up" of the diver with the removal of the bezel and optional water resistance but it's objectively the worst category

>> No.17801059

Mostly agree except for the sports watch. Even if people can't tell them apart they went hand in hand with the downfall of formal attire. Just consider the countless designs that were enabled once they ditched the simple case and leather strap.
